We did too, in the 1960s. Going down the A303 for holidays in Cornwall we were all excited about a break at Stonehenge where you could just walk into the stones. All this "protection" now is clearly just to make money rather than to stop vandalism.....aka what happened with Just Stop Oil a few months ago. Those fences just ooze spite towards the public. Avebury (so far, anyway) is a much more atmospheric experience than Stonehenge because you can mingle with the sarsens.

Girl on right with glasses is an example of this. She states her case, then mostly shuts up and stares blindly once she can’t compute the situation or can’t cope with someone questioning her. Almost looking like she’s going to cry. Clearly not a people person and shouldn’t be in a public job like this. The other one deals with the situation much better.

This part got me too. She isn't familiar with Bernoulli's principle or the venturi effect clearly. Whilst wind speed often increases with elevation, having things like mountains, cliffs and valleys causes more pain for unpredictable winds than a flat wide open field. I fly drones. I live in the Highlands. I've experienced it too often.

So, that's Stonehenge. Okay. Cool. Doesn't look as majestic from the air.

Brilliant Dan.. Once again you prove the difference between "policy" and the laws of the land. I was born at Tidworth which is very close to Stonehenge, but since the started 'managing' the site , I've not returned.

Is there something like a puppy farm that breeds entitled middle class kids for the National Trust, because they all seem to look and sound very similar whatever part of the country the site is in ?

It’s wonderful that when they built Stonehenge in 1903 they also included digging out the foundations for a business centre and tourist information centre wow and to think they started saying it was 1000 years old and then progressed to 2,000,000 bloody cheeky bugaz

The way you Troll the staff cracks me up everytime as you know the Law is on your side but they are adamant policy overrules you -they don't even realise there being trolled either. The look on the woman's face with the glasses she knew she was being trolled she just didn't dare say anything LOL.

The only restriction on English Heritage is that you cannot TOAL on their property, however during Summer Solstice, for obvious reason there is a complete ban on Drone Flying over Stonehenge.

If you search on google there is a copy of a letter from the CAA confirming that it is legal to fly over English Heritage and National Trust land as they don’t own the air space and provided you follow the drone rules!

When I first visited the stones in the mid 1970s we just parked on the road, walked over and wondered around amongst them. If I remember we were the only ones there.

Their "policy" on drones is harmless, but remember these people in managerial Britain have the mindset that enforced, or would like to enforce W H O policies regarding experimental, untested vaccines , in the recent past and in the future.

In the early 70's I rode my motorbike from Chippenham to Stonehenge, parked up next to the stones, sat in the circle and had a cig or two. Did that quite a few times. No car park, no fences, no pathways and NO CHARGE. Haven't bothered going back since it became a tourist zone, drove past it a few years ago and was amazed by the crowds.
