Oil Sands requires equivalent of burning 1 Barrel of OIl in GHG Emissions merely to 'produce' roughly2.5 Barrels for usage . That's the worst in the world(dirtiest) The next nearest worst Oil is conventional Oil produced by fracking at ~8 barrels produced for each 1 barrel equivalent.... to as high as 23-25 Barrels of Oil produced for 1 barrel in ghg emissions equivalent(Saudi Arabia). So it's really not just as simple as saying "let's use Alberta Oil ? GHG Emissions producing Natural Gas... ghg Emissions burning the Natural Gas to Boil the water to produce Steam.... ghg emissions pumping the Steam down to make the Sand/Tar/Bitumen Flow... and on and on and on GHG Emissions so that a FULL Barrel of ghg Emissions merely to 'produce' 2.5 Barrels of Oil ?

If she cares about Alberta's principal industry, she will invest in refining locally high-end products and pipelines to a delivery port in Churchill (including buying three icebreakers). Plenty of clients worldwide for oil and gas products for the foreseeable future (next 50 to 75 years). Survival of the fittest, a term made famous in the fifth edition of On the Origin of Species by British naturalist Charles Darwin, suggested that organisms best adjusted to their environment are the most successful in surviving and reproducing. Let the fittest develop realistic solutions, such as Hydrogen conversion for the millions of combustion engines. This will curb fossil fuels and repair some damage while making them affordable for the general public. As for Guilbeault, a convicted environment terrorist, he should be fired, investigated, and likely jailed.

@user7297410 ай бұрын
If you're looking for the answer to this question, the KZbin channel Engineering with Rosie talks about this in the context of wind turbines. Sometimes, the same arguments are made. "Turbine blades aren't recyclable. Won't it be worse for the environment than just burning fossil fuels?" But it ends up being negligible compared to the damage caused by burning fossil fuels. I imagine the batteries used for EVs and grid energy storage work the same way. Some cost to mine the minerals, yes. Some damage done. Same for the parts of it that can't be recycled at end of life. But still much less harmful than burning fossil fuels. I'd love to see a version of this for batteries to confirm my gut feeling (or prove it wrong).

@@user-yn1dc9nw3z So what person do you know who has quit smoking because of the cigarette tax? I don't know of anyone. What about anyone quitting drinking over the alcohol taxes? marijuana? "sin" taxes don't work and never have, ESPECIALLY when you need the products to live like heating your home.

This is exactly the kind of bunk journalism that I have come to expect from the CBC. My tax dollars hard at work spreading disinformation. Time for the Trudeau clown show to come to an end.

When virtually every scientist agrees on something, that isn't seen as an opinion, but an objectifiable fact. Sorry you're crying because you don't understand statistics or how journalism works.
@kellycarter494410 ай бұрын
@@Fenthule Actually you don't understand statistics. The only thing scientists agree on is the climate is warming. The reason underlying the warming is under a lot of debate in the scientific community, with the "climate crisis" being an outlier. Statistics to scare people have been manipulated for decades, and the science promoted by media are only the provably false computer climate models (garbage in = garbage out)

I don't disagree with anything in this video, and we definitely need to "'wean" ourselves off petroleum and it needs genuine efforts along with cooperation and commitment by every petroleum producing country. However, I don't know why it is rarely, if ever mentioned that the amount of carbon emissions contributed by Canada is about 1.9% of the total worlds emissions. The China, the US, India and Russia are by far the major contributors of emissions. It is important we acknowledge that even If Canada had the ability to completely stop our carbon emissions tomorrow, we would still experience the same devastating effects that we have now (most likely for decades to follow), until the largest emitting countries (China, Russia, India and the US) reduce theirs substantially.

Maybe one day CBC will get back to honest news not propaganda. If you dont know ‘ cause you can’t know’ maybe be a bit more balanced. I used to trust you now I’m filled with disgust when I come across CBC. Ask questions from both sides like you’re mandated to do, protect the people from lies and fear, don’t propagate lies and fear. Do your job!
