I specialize in ponds in my landscaping business and I got called out to fix a pond that had 2 leaks. One in the basin and one in the cascading waterfall itself. She told me it has been running since 1965, I showed her the waterfall leak and then it literally took me two seconds to find the second leak in the basin itself. She said she called out 4-5 people who claimed they did ponds and none of them could find the leaks. She said, “You are the first one to show me both leaks!” There no greater satisfaction knowing you helped the customer out and saved them money. I only charged her $99 for the service call. She self fixed it by epoxying it.

The fact Greg says every challenge is a gift, is 100% correct! It’s a push to focus on success with customers and keeps the water flowing. Also close to the end talking about bonuses to the employees is truly honorable. It’s a good feeling knowing working hard and living life through challenges and receiving a bonus makes space for a relief. Everyone has a different temple of strength….. it’s what makes a team!

I’ve been a water feature contractor for 35 years. I remember going to a few events that Aquascapes sponsored back in the days when they started marketing out here in Southern California. All I can say is this family of Aquastars, as I call them, have been genuinely fantastic people. Greg is an awesome guy. This company truly supports all of the contractors that join there organization. You’re in good hands Tigran. The only advice I can give anyone considering diving into waterscapes is, study this craft carefully, get yourself a local mentor that has built a lot of waterscapes. As we all know, every landscape is unique and will require certain modifications to be made to build a successful water feature. Great interview. I enjoyed the Aquascape update and insight. 👍🏽💨✌🏽

Awesome show, so much value in this talk. Ideas and quotes from Greg that to implement: 1. First job of the CEO is to guide and guard their culture - Live the Lifestyle of what is your business 2. Water is life - A landscape without water is without life. Absolutely true. And with a with a correctly built natural water feature there is no doubt that more life will be brought into the landscape 3. To build and follow successful systems. Not only with building ponds, but in business as well, so we are not constantly reinventing the wheel. 4. K.I.S.S. - This has been one of my mantras for a long time now and has been consistently true. 5. Build Beautiful water features, not better filters. Watersheds are naturally filtering, so it makes sense by building beautiful water features correctly, they would be naturally filtering and circulating nutrients for life. 6.Work on the future of your business now or the future will never happen. 7. Give the customer what they want, not what they ask for - knowing your craft so well to be able to listen to what they really want and know how to make that happen with your skillset. 8. Have the culture be what guides valuable people in and weeds out people that don’t fit. 9. Help people reach their fullest potential - within your company as well as the people around you. I believe we have to want this for ourselves to be able to want to help others as well. 10.People will be your greatest source of aggravation and source of inspiration - having forgiveness for others will create long lasting relationships 11. Rainwater Harvesting Systems - This one was my favorite because I am based in Colorado and the creativity and value of water features intrigues me to how this can be practical and beneficial in our environment. 12. We learn more from life’s valleys than we do from life’s mountain tops. - Love it.

One of the many things I learned from Greg is to no matter what happens trust your team. Adversity will make you a stronger person and better business owner.

I think I must be one of those rare people who would most definitely be swimming in my pond, not just every day but more than once per day. I absolutely LOVE swimming and being in the water. Of course, I am from Scotland so I am used to the cold water (I live on a sand dune that backs on to the North Sea and trust me, it's absolutely freezing). One day, I will have an Aquascape recreation pond and I will swim in it constantly, even in the middle of winter. I cannot imagine anything better in all honesty

One thing I learned from this podcast is the amount of leeway you have with ponds regarding permits! I live close to Tigran and it’s like his eyes shined when he heard that.
