I remember this as a child, when I had to be down there with my dad sometimes at the "workshop"/storage area (now Porthminster Cafe). I think they used to store the beach huts (which lined the entire path/road below the putting green during summer) and beach tents in there over winter, and I seem to remember a stack of spare deck chairs too. He had a portable Calor Gas heater in there and it was still FREEZING! It smelled kind of musty and I was always a bit scared of the staircase which went down to the "tea house" because it was dark, and I seem to have a memory of what looked to me like a very old style light switch, so I thought there might be ghosts hiding down those stairs - LOL! I vividly remember how big the drop was in the sand, especially to me as a child, and being told to keep well away from it (not that I needed telling, mind you!). I remember regular dog walkers sometimes coming in for a cup of tea with dad in the "workshop". Funny how things can spark certain memories - thank you for sharing this!

I have seen the same effect occur on the Porthgwidden beach at St Ives too.
