You being a lawyer would get a kick out of the real story behind the lyrics in this song. It's from a case in Arizona where a prosecutor known for seeking maximum sentences in drug cases gets busted for felony level distribution of cannabis.

As a general trend, the earlier the Tool, the rawer, angrier, and overall length of songs a bit shorter. Time turns anger to introspection, so... Later Tool is usually (not always) more layered, philosophical in a way that acknowledges the anger then goes deeper, even providing solutions and pathways to process the anger and use it to grow, and you get some long songs. My personal favorites (limited to one per album): Opiate - Jerk Off (live) Undertow - Undertow Aenema - Third-eye Lateralus - Lateralus 10,000 Days - Rosetta Stoned Fear Inoculum - 7empest Good luck on your journey. Just know it will take several lifetimes to fully digest the music.

I picked up one CD and said hey this looks interesting, lol, and she played it. I was hooked. When we got through listening to it I looked at her and said I think they're going to be revolutionary. So I have to say you are clearly one of the most thoughtful, in-depth reviewers, especially for TOOL I have seen yet! So many people watch and listen and are amazed and effected only to miss out out on the multi-layered brilliance that is this band. Polyrhythms and how & why they use them, Maynard's lyrics, his voice as an instrument, their unmatched use of build and release...and so on. Clearly, every fan has their favorites but in no particular order I believe most TOOL fans would highly recommend JAMBI, 46 &2, Vicarious, Sober Live (Pro Shot) Remastered (Watching the video is a must!), Ænema, & Stinkfist. Clearly there are many more but these are a must new Tool fan you are obviously becoming! My favorite theory about the song is the Jimmy Page One. Led Zeppelin made a name for themselves and became huge by lifting and using prior established music, in most cases, without giving credit. They were in court over it quite a bit in the 90s when these older blues artists and family's caught onto them. A hometown legend of mine named Willie Dixon, being one artist who went to court against them, did somewhat win. Having his name added as a writing credit. I think the Kangaroo Court mentioned has a lot to do with how they stole all these songs. and easily got away with it. Muddy Waters is something mentioned in the Pot and is the name of the blues artist that originally recorded you need love, that became whole Lotta Love. They also took from earlier artists such as Robert Johnson, who died in the 30s. His song traveling riverside blues contains the lyrics: "Now you can squeeze my lemon till the juice run down my (Till the juice run down my leg, baby, you know what I'm talkin' 'bout)" and the led Zeppelin song the lemon song contained "Squeeze me, baby, ’til the juice runs down my leg Squeeze me, baby, ’til the juice runs down my leg The way you squeeze my lemon I’m gonna fall right out of bed." And all of this and Jimmy page led Zeppelin are notorious for not allowing anyone to use or borrow their music. It is pretty rare for an artist to be given permission to use a led Zeppelin song as a cover or for anyone to license the use of Led Zeppelin's music. So, the hypocrisy part is that they made it huge by using other artists' music, and now they are extremely successful; they won't let others do the same.

@cheepvodka-gaming26292 жыл бұрын
@Graeme Roberts yes, and it's on a non official release. As Salival being a b-side outtakes and live disc. Just because they did in the past cover them doesn't mean it isn't true. Maybe their dealings with Jimmy page then soured their thoughts on the group. The pot did come out 6 years later.

This is the most entertaining & informative reaction I’ve seen to this enigmatic song. Thanks for digging into the lyrics. Makes the song all the more entertaining it’s composed of common phrases that Maynard weaves together. Two that don’t get noticed are “a pot to piss in”. Which is why Maynard refers to pissing on pots. Another dimension of “high” is being on your “high horse” when you judge others. Hence “you must have been HIGH”.

I have to admit this is my favorite review video of this reviewer. A lot of music reviewers hear the songs, say a couple of things and in the case of TOOL more often then not say they liked the instruments but the lyrics they didn’t understand. Needless to say if you understand the lyrics you will enjoy the songs more because Maynard writes songs to stimulate the mind and for us to grow or in some ways evolve from the state we are in mentally as humans. Maynard had openly stated that he would not write songs if they didn’t have a message that in some way helped someone in the world dealing with issues or hard times. He has said why bother singing about bullshit or nonsense, it’s pointless and doesn’t help anybody. Having met him personally he does come off as a bit of an ahole or as someone who is bothered by mindless attention. He was cordial to me but others who were there to meet and greet the more people acted like he was a god to them the more he cringed and wanted them to just move on and leave him alone.
