WOW! I use to hear this song quite often at the old Western Gardens in Edmonton, AB back in my early honky-tonk days of the early & mid 70's, it was played quite a bit too along with Doug Kershaw's "Diggy Diggy Lo" tune, this place was about a block over from the "Klondiker Hotel", back in the day when a glass of beer was .20 cents, a bottle .45 cents.

In 1976, his recording of the Cajun French song, "Lâche pas la patate" ("The Potato Song") earned gold record status in Canada. In 1991, Newman and Cajun Country earned a Grammy Award nomination for their album, Alligator Man.

how is no one discussing this is written by probably the most racist musical artists of all time, Johnny Rebel
@dariosmagata8481 Жыл бұрын
This isn't the only song he wrote for Jimmy C Newman, either. They must have been friends... just blows my mind to think that such a well-known artist like Newman had anything to do with Johnny Rebel.
@RavioloComboli11 ай бұрын
He made many songs outside of racist songs, he did a cover of White Lightning by George Jones. He wasn’t a bad singer or anything, what really sucks is how he used his talent for bad. I wish he went the route of just making nice songs that everyone could listen too.
@dariosmagata848111 ай бұрын
@@RavioloComboli True, I’m actually a fan of his work, he did a lot of great country and rockabilly songs. I’m just surprised that he got that close to the mainstream, nowadays it would destroy someone’s career if they had anything to do with someone like that.
@RavioloComboli11 ай бұрын
@@dariosmagata8481 I like his work too. Ofc not all of it. But even his racist songs are catchy, which… sounds terrible saying. But outside of that whole genre he really did have mainstream potential.
