Where do we go from there, cause what if everything collapses IDK 😅

MOST, not all Americans are stupider in general. Your average gen Alpha (2013-2019) born kids doesn't know how to, spell, read or write in the fifth grade or below because parents just give them tablets and premature internet access to social media including latest iphones and androids. Millenials do better 🙁

@niloticnya I'm not shocked. Transphobia is rampant in the black community mainly because a lot of black people think being trans is new so they think it's ok to make fun of something they don't fully understand. It's dividing our community by creating even more "them vs us" circumstances. Unfortunately 😕 Another thing: a lot of the community still thinks that being trans is a "white thing"...

One of the only real ways to combat this new age radicalization is to have parents keep their kids off the internet, at least for a time so their brain develops more and they’ll (hopefully) be able to recognize when something feels off. During their time away from the internet, I’d want schools to teach how to spot potential dogwhistles and other subtle malevolence in media. We need more critical thinking in this world of “it’s a joke ‘till it’s not.”
@longlivebeans
@longlivebeans Жыл бұрын
We can’t even get schools to say “slavery was wrong” or “gay people exist” so I doubt they’ll be teaching dog whistles & media literacy anytime soon.
@mamboking0134
@mamboking0134 Жыл бұрын
That's just not possible... For one, most of the parents thinking they are shielding their kids from the internet have, themselves, been influenced by it and are consciously/unconsciously indoctrinating their kids. Two, the effect of the internet permeates all social media, sports, news, and even education and the sciences at this point. Even if you could possibly remove any port to the internet from your child's reach the people around your child who have been effected will still be able to affect them and pass on the messages. We are a very, very interconnected society with a lot of intertextuality. Since you can't really keep the internet from your child the only real methods of protecting them is education, media literacy, and less exposure to all of the gook.

I've never really liked the brother's takes on social or political issues, and you're 100% correct that his past transgressions seem to have been forgotten in more recent discourse. 17:30 That ending though, I can absolutely see this becoming a Salt & Pepper situation. For those who don't know, Salt & Pepper has been laid out on tables for centuries, and historians have dug back wherever they can to find the origins of this custom. Several of the earliest records they can find all mention *three* shakers: one for Salt, one for Black Pepper, and one for "Etc". Still to this day, it is unknown what the hell Etc was.

I think another layer of media literacy or lack thereof is seeing how people will “meme” someone into the public eye and bring an abundance of attention. Like people are so quick to denounce a person/brand/video etc. but consciously post/repost/comment on anything having to do with the situation and spark a media frenzy. Now the person is getting brand deals and millions of followers all because people fail to realize the power of publicity on the internet.

Really enjoyed your existential dread breakdown about future historians interpreting memes, but it's just as bad to be a parent of a small child. So many jokes circulating on kid's KZbin channels are meme-based, but the memes have abstracted so much that I think the creators forget that the original reference is not "kid friendly" at all. And that's not even going into white supremacist dog-whistles and 4chan op double-think wrap-around sarcasm that crops up all over video game channels. I don't think our parents struggled to explain to me why "Garfield" was funny for making some Reaganite reference nearly as much as I have to dodge weird rhetorical pretzels while trying to explain to my kid why he can't watch a youtuber who makes a few too many frog references...

Great video. These same questions are now burning a hole in my brain as well 😅😵‍💫 And disinformation and media literacy has only gotten worse since you posted this a year ago 🥴 It is definitely among one of the most important topics/issues of today though!

Great video and I have those same questions that were posed at the end of the question. Having to see and hear people say they don't want to critically think lately has left me thinking about how people intake thought and politick. Memes being one of the most common forme of communication on the internet for spreading ideas is honestly a nightmare. I blame capitalism and the pay walling of, well, everything. All of these short forme images and videos cannot convey a full thought so they inevitably mislead people. One of the memes I detest the most are Wojaks. Their resurgence these past few years leaves me rather angry as people ignore the antisemitism that spawned Wojaks. There's now even, in my opinion, racist stereotypes for just about every single race in Wojak forme. Wojaks are often used to spread misinformation and pro-status quo narratives (Especially things like "I don't want to think about it" in regards to any mention of critical thought). I said it before when I had Twitter that accounts posting old 2000s/2010s memes will bring them back, and I was told that I was wrong, but now that's happened and people unironically communicate through bloody Wojaks. Dreadful.

Unrelated but the “not a perfume” is one of my favs! Super good on its own and great to layer with other fragrances 😌❤️ i try to keep my eye out at Marshall’s, Ross, and TJmaxx since I was able to find two bottles (each roughly 1oz)

Sidenote, I use Juliet has a gun. I love that line of the not a perfume one arm change is the same as you put it on your skin so depending on like your pH and everything, they like gives you a signature say to you your body adapts to your body. It’s such a good say I love it and then they’re magnolia. One is really good as well.

Last time I saw Antoine Dodson he was a TSA agent in that movie Hustlers with Jennifer Lopez a few years ago. Was happily surprised to see he's still getting small cameo roles lol.
