If Propofol is the only drug given then you can breathe on your own. If given with a paralytic like Succinylcholine then you do stop breathing as it paralyzes everything including your breathing. We use both if putting someone on a vent for surgery or to put in a medically induced coma. I’ve used a drug similar to Propofol and I’ve used Succinylcholine to put a breathing tube down many times (I was working as a medic on an ambulance to do that). The Propofol puts you to sleep and Succinylcholine is to paralyze so if you give Succinylcholine by itself you can’t move or breathe at all but you would be conscious. That’s why both drugs must be given.

@@MarcusCollins69 usually either a Propofol or Versed drip. Paralytic are usually used in the beginning but depending on why the person is in a coma they will usually stop the paralytic to start waking them up when it’s time. Paralytic is used so people don’t fight the vent and cause asynchrony. They can stop sedation at any time especially when they are trying to wean someone off of the vent so sometimes people are awake on the vent. They won’t take you off if under sedation. Ecclesiastes 9:5-6: "For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in any thing that is done under the sun." Ecclesiastes 9:10: "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest." Psalm 115:17: "The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence." The Bible defines death as a dreamless sleep just like being under anesthesia but for a very long time, untill the resurrection that is. This is what Jesus said: John 5:25: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live." There are two resurrections the Bible talks about. Daniel 12:2: "And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18: "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." Revelation 20:5-6: "But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years." The resurrections are separated by one thousand years period. Those who repented and follow God will take part in the first resurrection, then the wicked will be raised a thousand years later to receive their punishment in hellfire where there is no resurrection after that, they will be burned up completely. Malachi 4:1-3: "For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts." So contrary to the popular belief, they will not burn forever,you see here that God says they will be ashes, also there is no hell yet, all the dead sleep untill the resurrection, but there is a heaven to obtain and I advise you to make the right choice and repent while you still can, because once a person dies they sealed their fate forever. Ezekiel 33:11: "As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die?" John 3:16-18: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God."

kimmybbbyeah, yes, we can use an ETT for teeth extraction. They turn the tube away from the side the doc is working on. They can turn the tube the opposite way if the doc needs to move to the other side. There are some patients that require a hospital OR for their extractions- diseases like cerebral palsy. Mental illnesses. Poor health where they require skilled monitoring. That's just a few reasons why a patient would require their extractions in a hospital over an oral surgeon's office.

I found this video searching for the topic of stopping breathing when under propofol. I just had my third colonoscopy last week. I was lying on my left side facing the screen with my vitals on it and the nurse anesthetist was standing next to it. The doctor in the anesthesiologist were behind me plus one or two other people. I was going out I was watching the screen in front of me and the doctor behind me said, she stopped breathing. One of the lines on the monitor in front of me went totally flat just like you showed here. Does that mean I was intubated or is that not always necessary? I forgot to ask the anesthesiologist in the postop recovery area. In your video it looks like despite breathing for him that he also needed to be intubated. Thoughts?

What do you think based on your experience?
@judith81614 жыл бұрын
This is for those who are to undergo endoscopy and feel uncomfortable or insecure about it. I'll just write down my own experience, hoping to make you feel less nervous. I had a small dose of propofol injected into my veins a couple of days ago for an endoscopy. It was the second time I went through this procedure, so I wasn't too scared. However, this time I watched the doctor inject that milky stuff. For a second or two, I got really frightened at the thought of being knocked out. I managed to say "I'm scared", then there was a very strange taste in my mouth, and a second later I felt my eyes close and ... then a nurse told me to "wake up! wake uuup" like mum used to, back in those days :D. As I opened my eyes, I felt as if I had slept for hours. So I asked her "how long was I out" to which she causally replied "about 5 minutes". Notice that the small doses used during an endoscopy don't usually require breathing assitance. Looks like the mind reacts way faster than the body does. You'll be monitored throughout the process, so really you don't need to worry. I am very anxious about everything medical, but propofol really just makes you pass out for a short time, after which you will probably feel drowsy for half an hour or more. Really, there's only one thing to keep in mind: Don't try to get home on your own. I thought I was fine, but later on I noticed I had forgotten certain things that had happend just after the anaethesia. Therefore, using public transports isn't recommended (unless you want to end up god knows where), and driving a car (or any other vehicle) is strictly prohibited. So make sure you have someone to pick you up. And be grateful you don't have to consciously experience swallowing a tube with a camera on it.

Why propofol acts rapidly ? Because the brain is highly vascularized organ so propofol will distribute to the brain rapidly
@HPPalmtopTube3 жыл бұрын
No, it's to do with the very high lipid solubility of most drugs that cross the blood brain barrier (which is very rich in lipids) such as propofol, morphine and other psychoactive drugs... The faster they cross this barrier (eg the more lipid soluble they are), the more pronounced the effect. This is why addicts prefer heroin to morphine as heroin is much more lipid soluble and as such crosses the blood-brain barrier much faster than morphine, giving a much more pronounced effect as their opioid receptors get agonized much more rapidly resulting in a more euphoric high. Same with smoked crack cocaine (the free base, which is much more lipid soluble) vs cocaine hydrochloride (which is technically a salt and as such is more water soluble and less lipid soluble)...

I didn't realize that propofol had that effect on your breathing. In fact, I was under the impression that one of the primary reasons that propofol was so popular among anesthesiologists, was that it didn't affect breathing and heart rate as much as other drugs(such as benzodiazepines, and certainly barbiturates.)

I enter when a colonoscopy the other day and I'm going to give you a very realistic explanation of what it was like. I have terrible anxiety and I'm also kind of an alcoholic well not kind of let's just say I drink much more than any normal person should but I was pretty intoxicated up and until my procedure and I told the doctors and nurses this and they pretty much said don't worry about it. But getting to the anesthesia situation here's how I experienced it. They quickly took me back to the room and put an oxygen mask and told me to take a couple deep breaths and I started to feel just slightly dizzy and then I was out pure black and then the next thing I was awake. It's very strong whatever they give you you will be out and then you'll wake up. Whatever is going on in this video is extremely intense they must have gave this guy like a megadose.

I had a severe cardiovascular collapse during an appendectomy after being put under with suxamethonium & thiopentine(only 2 I can remember without checking my sos tallisman)Was on a ventilator for 16hours till the doctors could resuscitate me. Needless to say, I practice mind over matter in the hopes of avoiding any health problems that would need operating on, as I'm limited now to hypnosis.

that sounds like it sucks how are you now?

bullshit. propofol, thiopental, and opioids suppress breathing by slowing down neuron signals in the brain. skeletal muscle relaxants block nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in your muscles preventing them from working, which stops breathing too.

Had you ever had a reaction before? I had one during a wisdomw teeth removal so when they wanted to take my gallbladder out, I had to see an allergist first.

What about a anesthesiologist in a dentist setting? They want to use this drug but without any breathing tube except supplemental oxygen on your nose? Is that safe?

Is the respiratory arrest painful while on it?
@elkillerx9 ай бұрын
Nope not at all. You just feel extremely high for like 5 seconds then you fall asleep without any discomfort.

I must say. That I am a critical nurse who uses propfol daily. This drug can only be used in a controlled setting and the patient must have a secure airway, ex:( a breathing tube). MJ should have never gotten this.

Unsure why, but every time I have surgery that Propofol burns like a literal blowtorch in my veins. My last two surgeries I remember screaming and screaming before my lights finally went out

That’s very common with propofol when pushed for induction during anesthesia. Generally we will give you a little lidocaine push before hand to hep minimize that discomfort.
