Have you ever stopped in order to think about the power that our thoughts have? So, stop and think! Consider this sentence: "Thoughts can stimulate behaviors more efficiently than physical molecules." And also this one "Thoughts release chemical compounds in the brain". We know that attitudes and emotional states affect the activity of every cell and systems in our body. In another video, "Where is happiness?" we conclude that happiness is in the brain. Dale Carnegie once said: "It's not what you have or who you are or where you are or what you're doing that makes you happy or unhappy: it's what you think." I also mentioned in another video, "The great poison o fear", that thoughts of doubt, anxiety and stress lower our immune system. Please, consider this: our brain is incapable of distinguishing between a real experience and an imaginary one. We need to visualize ourselves in happy situations because the brain doesn't know we're just imagining it! I have already said it on another occasion, but I repeat it here: "Where our conscience is, there we are". If we are thinking about problems, we may even be on a paradisiacal beach, but if we are thinking about our problems, we are not on the beach! We are where our conscious mind is! On the other hand, if we imagine ourselves safe and happy in a certain situation, the brain understands that we are happy and repeats that happiness circuit! Does it seem too abstract? So let's consider the opposite to prove that the brain does not know how to distinguish what is real from what is imaginary. Do you remember that movie from the 70s, Jaws? So, we went to the cinema, bought a ticket, sat there and knew perfectly well that it was a film. We were fully aware that this was a Spielberg fiction and that there were no sharks. But in the most suspenseful moments, where a boy would enter the sea with a shark lurking, we became apprehensive and felt scary! We had all the symptoms of fear: our hearts could be pounding; we could sweat, real physical responses to stress! We knew it was a movie, that there were actually no sharks and that the blood was tomato sauce or red paint! But we felt afraid anyway, because the central nervous system cannot distinguish between what is real and what is imaginary. That´s why we have to watch our thoughts. Let us replace certain habits of mind with better ones. One should never complain because, whoever complains, attracts the complaining back. Let's strengthen neural systems of happiness and not fear or doubt! I'll get back to the topic. See you next time!
