We are now one step closer to getting it on the road! We got the horn, turn signal lights, brake lights and much more fully working. I rewired everything and was able to save the original Signal Stat turn signal switch and original 1951 vintage front turn signals. All that is left now to do is fix the original Flathead 6 230ci engine!

That's awesome. It's definitely a big project but have fun with it. You kinda have to decide what level of restoration you want to do and how original you want to keep it. I will be kinda forced eventually to get rid of my patina since that doesn't fly in a tract neighborhood lol but I think it looks great. Good luck on yours!

I really have enjoyed your videos so far. Even though I don't own a vintage power wagon, I'm rebuilding a 47' Dosge Deluxe, and started working on my wiring last week. I love to see people like us, restoring old vehicles and enjoying it. Keep it up.

Good job! In all seriousness though, make sure you disconnect the battery when you’re done for the night! Resign yourself to replacing ALL of the wiring! Add fuses on just about everything! You don’t want to burn down your parents house!!! I suggest solder and heat shrink on your connections. Crimping won’t last very long!
@DIYSCOTT
@DIYSCOTT 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have been keeping it disconnected just for that reason and to trickle charge it. Yes I really just need to replace some of the old bigger gauge wires and should be all new. When I get closer to having it more permanent I will solder and heat shrink. I don't know why I didn't think of that. For the fuses can I just do inline fuses? I definitely don't want to have any chance of fire risk. I was worried about it that when it was at the mechanic doing the brakes because they had some really expensive rare cars they were restoring right next to the dpw. Thanks for the advice hope all is well!

I found when making wires longer soldering is best you'll have stronger current. Plus if you do have problems down the road your not checking every connection of extra wire mainly the connectors at the ends. Trucks looking good giving me motivation to start doing mine 🤣

@@dacei8296 I took all the valves out and was gonna lap them but kinda ran out of time because I am going back to college. The last mechanic forced compressed air (leak down test) into the engine and it was coming out of the dip stick which most likely means the the compression rings on the pistons are bad. I didn't want to spend a bunch of time trying to get them back in (with the wrong type of spring compressor) and still have it not work so I am going to take it to the machine shop to get it rebuilt. A little more money upfront but I think I will be really happy when I have a good reliable engine and since I am keeping this thing forever I want to give the engine the best chance to make it

your lights are flashing faster then they should because your using a 6 volt battery and 12 volt flasher and bulbs. at least that's what I believe is the cause.
@DIYSCOTT
@DIYSCOTT 3 жыл бұрын
It is a 6 volt flasher but hard to say on the front indicator bulbs. I agree though I think it's some sort of hyper flash that's supposed to let me know a bulb is out or something

You should wire up those marker lights on the roof. And what are the front facing light wells on the side of the cab for? Also markers? Or turn signals?
@DIYSCOTT
@DIYSCOTT 3 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely. The lights on the side of the cab are called cowl lights basically used as marker lights. From what I understand they they are something left over from the horse and buggy era because they didn't want to leave their gas lamps on if they weren't driving. They can be wired now to be turn signals too but weren't originally so I think I might just put them on their own switch.

Great truck! I recently got one of my own and will eventually be posting restoration videos as well. As for your rapid flashing hazards and turn signals, the speed is controlled by a flasher module. Should be as simple as buying one that has a slower flashing rate and switching them out. Will you be sticking with six volt, or upgrading to 12 volt?
@DIYSCOTT
@DIYSCOTT 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think I'm gonna try a different flasher. I decided to stick with the 6 volt
@flytrapguy7431

@@DIYSCOTT Cool, I dont know what Ill do yet, but owning a six volt vehicle does come with bragging rites! Only thing to watch out for is if you ever have to jump start the battery from a 12 volt. If you ever do, make sure the key is off. Charging the battery would work fine, but If you let the 12 volt power run through the system you can fry your 6 volt gauges and lights.
@DIYSCOTT

@@flytrapguy7431 Yeah that's a good point. I'm also gonna do some sort of hidden battery disconnect to reduce voltage leakage when it's parked and prevent anyone from trying to steal it
