I can't understand the Ripley thing. It's like because the movies are old, they forgot that Alien was set in the future. It wouldn't make sense for her to show up in this apparently contemporary setting.

As someone on the autism spectrum, I find the whole "autism is a superpower" "plot" point to be laughable and could only be written by a neurotypical who has never actually talked to someone with autism about their experiences. Hollywood has always had problems with presenting autism in a realistic light, and its a shame that the only movie that did it well, as far as I've seen, was the Power Rangers reboot.

part of the problem with the 'autism is a superpower' plot idea is that its so biased towards amab people who tend to present differently than afab people, and it doesn't highlight the struggles any autistic person faces cognitively or just. . . y'know, shows that it's not just one set of characteristics. like hi yes i'm on the spectrum and i abhor math with my entire being but creative things??? animation and film-making??? hell yeah. hopefully one day we'll have more autistic people in hollywood to give our experiences and lives a voice. maybe i'm being sappy but like. . . i'm not gonna trust neurotypical people to tell my story. not after the sia fiasco.

The movie didn't seemed that bad at first BUT then they retcon the whole reason Predators hunt humans, they went from hunters to DNA scavengers and now apparently there was a Yautja Empire out to get earth. It's like they went out of their way to ignore not only the comics but also the previous movies (except for the 1st as always). Plus the tone was confusing with that kid character, even the first teaser seemed like it was geared at a younger audience (PG-13) with the kid and Pet Predator Hound but then the whole movie is full of adult jokes and explicit violence, there was no consistent tone.
@jasonblalock4429

I think the basic problem is that Predator was never meant to spawn a franchise. It's a neat one-movie premise: alien hunter hunts humans. That's not something you can really recycle over and over, without it feeling like a cheesy 80s slasher series. So on one hand, you need to expand the scope to keep the franchise going, but the core premise is so paper-thin that there's just nothing to work with. Which results in silly sequels with weird attempts to graft lore onto the franchise.

It's literally that easy to do a predator story, and they keep just...not doing that. The one thing that did me in most in this film was the introduction of the 'Ultimate Predator'. I swear, ever since Jurassic World included the gene-spliced Indominus Rex, hybridization has been prevalent in just about any monster movie. I didn't see what was wrong with the Predators being honorable hunters and nothing more. No secret plots to taking over any other worlds, no wants to further their species just honorable hunts. Though adding a bigger Predator to hunt smaller ones is an interesting idea, at best, there are other more creative ways to get the same result without seemingly steeling the gene-altering trend. The reason I have such a large issue with this is because it directly comes into conflict with what we know about the Predator race thus far. They are sent from planet to planet to hunt armed life-forms honorably and for sport. So, it's safe to say they believe in pushing the absolute limits of their bodies, minds and methods. Then, why would they want a direct upper hand and scumbag biological traits to lessen the meaning of their hunts? Further more, if their society revolves around these dangerous otherworldly hunts then why would they need another world to conquer, they shouldn't have overpopulation as a threat because they are consistently putting their lives in danger for the sake of bragging rights. Such a shame this film could've gone deeper into the lore we already knew and expand the lore we've known for years rather than just shoving in a boring, shameless and direct opposite to everything we know about the Predators. The shitty part of it is if they wanted to connect Predators to Aliens again, then keeping Predators how they were was a perfect way to do so! The Predators in AVP hunted the Xenomorph because they were seen as the most dangerous prey for only the most skilled of hunters. Overall this movie was just a total bust for me and I hope they return to how the Predators used to be in the next film.

@@CruelestChris My only complaint with Jurassic World is they didn't get crazy enough. I mean, look at the Chaos Effect toy line that was supposed to have an animated show around it. Those hybrids are weird monster looking creatures. I think the Ultimasaurus would've have made a better Indominus. It's big, scary looking and combined all of the best traits from various species so, of course it could've been used for militaristic purposes. Indominus rex was just a Tyrannosaurus Rex with usable arms.

It was 'alright' as far as dumb sci-fi action movies but honestly it seems to take the most inspiration from the actual worst movie out of BOTH the Alien & Predator franchises, the Alien vs. Predator sequel (Requiem maybe?) that takes place in a small town. Suburban Predator is not at all what ppl wanna see. Predators was so much better, why didnt they just make a sequel to that? You wouldnt even need to use the same characters/actors, the setup allows for pretty much infinite sequels.

Goes to show that bringing back a series veteran is not always a good thing: Ridley Scott Prometheus and Alien: Covenant and James Cameron Terminator: Dark Fate. Either they lose touch with what made their films work or they just go on an ego trip and are like "Hey guys, it's me! The series creator or the director of that one movie in the series that everyone love's! I'm back! A good story? Nah, I'm just here to attach my name to it again and collect a fat paycheck cause all the fans are going to show up cause I'm back!" I feel Predator 2 is underrated. City Hunter is also definitely up there on my favorites. As for Wolf, why a lot of people gravitate towards him and he's sometimes seen as a fan favorite: 1) Wolf was the main draw of AVPR and was the closest we ever got to a yautja in a protagonist's role. 2) His design was inspired by City Hunter, which is already a good thing to see compared to the football body builder look of the previous movie. 3) He was a reference to Pulp Fiction's Winston Wolfe. 4) He had an arsenal of badass weaponry (Whip, Dual plasma casters, a hand cannon, the cleaner kit, spear and shuriken's. Basically a one man army.) 5) My personal favorite thing - He's an elite and his mask is decorated in runes which when translated mean "Not for glory, not for honor, not for the hunt, but to clean up the mess." But that's what I love about the franchise, there's so many different and unique Predators with quirks and traits.

Back when only Predator 1 and 2 existed, the kid/teen I was would've wanted nothing more than half a dozen more Predator movies, but if I had known they'll all be like this, I'd not wanted them anyway. The newest movie's hulking big brute of a Predator really can't miss the mark more on what made the character so intriquing and awesome. A smart, elite hunter that clearly has it's almost ritualistic code to go by, which indicates history, some sort of hierarchy, civilization etc. It blows my mind how such an incredible concept has been fucked up so majorly. This latest one is, in my opinion the worst so far. Then again, maybe if I rewatched some AvP movies, I guess there might be something worse in there.

I have aspergers, and seeing "autism stealing predators" and "autism is the next evolution of humans" was so cringeworthy, mainly because autism and aspergers is a birth defect, as well as because WHY WOULD PREDATORS STEAL AUTISM WHAT EVEN

Me, thinking about the idea that the predator hunter could be Ripley or Newt: "Sorry, I can hear you. I am laughing about that nonsense."

It's super weird watching this video and seeing how much of a shitshow production was as a fan of the movie.

I was so excited for this movie, Predator was my favorite movie monster as a kid, I collected all of the Dark Horse comics, and my faith in the franchise was totally renewed in 2010. Predators was good, it was a perfect blend of sequel/remake/reboot, and it was exactly what the series needed to get back on track. Predators also had a built-in safety net, nostalgia, and I remember hoping that the next movie would take the lore and run with it, creatively. And... I guess that's what they did, wish granted, thanks Fox. What will Disney do with it now? It can't possibly get any worse, right?

Tbh you could have opened with Shane Black casting a 'close personal friend' of his that was a convicted pedo. The absolute shit cherry on the hell shit cake. He apparently got away with casting Steven Wilder Striegel in Iron Man and The Nice Guys AFTER he got back out of jail. Then Black was so veryy sorwwry when he finally got called out the 3rd time aground.

I want you all to take a minute to appreciate how perfect the use of the "Mr. Black" Simpson clip was (4:13). To remember that it even existed (its an old clip), have the foresight to know it would land, despite its age. Having a perfect context to use it whereas its funny if you know the reference yet still funny even if you _don't._ all to be just 2 seconds in a 20 minute video. Brilliant

Wha happun, Shane Black? How did you go from making The Nice Guys and Iron Man 3 to this bloody mess? It's honestly kind of sad that this didn't work out since he is a genuinely great writer. I just hope he is able to make something fun and awesome again sometime soon.
