This wasn’t the first episode, you know. (There’s a reason why Bob in his opening remarks said the new while referencing the old.) The game show first aired on NBC primetime Monday November 26, 1956 and hosted by Bill Cullen. Then it moved to ABC in 1963, it’s final season was in 1965. Then CBS picked it up in 1972 with Bob Barker hosting, then of course Drew Carey took over.

I think there are two things: Time + Nostalgia. My sister (born early 90s) is WAY more nostalgic for commercials from the 2000s than I am (where my nostalgia ends in the mid-late 90s). BUT as time passes and those ads become more and more of a time capsule, they become more interesting anyway. also If you watched enough TV, everyone was eventually guaranteed to see the same commercial multiple times. Once TV changed w streaming in the 2010s we kinda lost that, but before, commercials themselves are a kind of shared experience, just like "watching The Price is Right when home sick from school" was for most millennials and gen X.

I’m interested in how it looks. Crystal clear. But when moving you can see horizontal lines. Anyone know the technicalities of this video?
@CeramicDalmatian
@CeramicDalmatian 9 күн бұрын
@@kelsoboy1431 Hi, uploader here. So, there's two ways to transmit video: Progressive scan "redraws" the picture every "frame" (there are either just under 30 or 60 frames of video in a traditional TV signal), while "Interlaced" re-draws every other line every second. The advantage to interlaced is that you only need half as much bandwidth/signal to send the same video. Up until the late 2000s, all traditional TV video was either 480i (analog cable, over the air antenna signal, etc) or 480p (digital cable, satellite, DVD). ANYWAY: Although I've remastered the HELL out of this copy (which came from the master about 15 years ago), the copy I received was interlaced, and short of using something like AI (which could easily be wrong), I can't redraw the missing bits - which shows up as those lines. (If you watched regular TV on an old school CRT (the big old heavy TVs before HD), the reason you never noticed the lines at home is because of a trick involving the way those types of displays work. It's why old video games look different on modern consoles than they did when you hooked your Sega Genesis to the TV itself)

Likewise didn't realize Hamilton Beach had been around since the 70s or earlier. Just recently had one of their blenders crap out on me, that I had for like a decade (granted, didn't use it all that much). Apparently blended my smoothie a bit too long and the motor gave out, or something. **Sigh** Anyway. Was weird seeing something from Hamilton Beach in the first episode of TPiR... Never really thought of it as a particularly high end or long-lived brand. But, apparently it's been around a while like Black & Decker, I guess?
