I remember watching this program around this time, 1974 or 1975 and seeing the car I decided wanted one day. The car on the show was a yellow Chevrolet Monza. Fast forward to 1978 when I turned 16. My first car was used 1976 Chevy Monza 2+2 except it was maroon in color. I had that car four and a half months. That's when I was involved my first car accident and the Monza was totaled. This video was a neat look back at the past.

That they'd throw in 33 cans of oil with a '74 Chevy Caprice is a bid odd. I'm thinking it was a way to 'pad' the showcase without bumping the price up much, since the Caprice was a high end car. Wouldn't it be ironic if the motor oil was thrown in with one of the Vegas that frequently showed up on the stage?
@tholmes2169

350/4 speed manual, LT trim group, AM/FM radio, power windows, air conditioning, man that 1974 Camaro was WELL OPTIONED for back in the day. Most of them were stripper type of cars, ie you wanted something a bit bigger than a Vega with a V8. As a matter of fact the cars of 2024 are more expensive than the ones back in 1974. But you have to remember the price is back in 74 versus the prices in 2024 or good only during the inflation years! And now in The Drew Carey era they're giving away cars as high as $150,000! The last time they gave away an expensive car like that was back on December 30, 2013 when a woman from Tacoma Washington 1,857.000 Audi R8! The actual price of the car itself was $157,300

The only cars offered as prizes on British TV in 1972 by ITV ( the only commercial broadcaster in UK at the time ) had to cost below £1000, & had to be built in Britain such as; Austin Mini, Austin 1100, Hillman Imp & Ford Escort mk1. Eyebrows were raised in 1976 when Anglia Televisions " Sale of the Century" had on offer a Renault 5! This model was foreign made & cost over£1000! So the regulators ( IBA) had to relax the rules a bit!) Those US & Japanese cars were fairly exotic compared to what British TV had on offer!

Who is this host other than Bob Barker? All that Castro oil would be needed for the Vega!! Nobody liked the VW THING you could see it on their faces. That dark haired "model" was the villain in The New Adventures of Wonder Woman with Cathy Lee Crosby.

A lot of excitement about a PoS Vega, Rambler or the land yacht. And the death trap Toyota even came with a heater! I wonder how excitited they got when they got the bill from the IRS.

The year I was born. All these cars are Gen X. Interesting that there was 2 hosts. Bob barker and the other guy that I don't know. Tess doesn't look like a woman that would enjoy the VW Thing. Yeah, a green Vega looks about right for her! Dang! I'd love to win the Hornet! Why are almost all the cars either green or yellow? - oh, never mind, there's a brown Comet. Never mind the Green Hornet. I'll take the red one! Keep the 1974 Caddy. I'll take the Jeep and camping package! DANG! They have a 1974 Toyota 1200. I had a 1972 Toyota 1600! I'll take that white Gremlin X as well...with 8 track!

The woman that took the prizes in Temptation instead of going for the car, the fact that Price pretty much treated that as a loss after Bob revealed all the numbers to be correct was kinda funny to me. That's the first time I've heard the losing horns for taking the prizes when the contestant could've won the car.

1974 was an interesting year for American cars since the 1973 OPEC oil imbargo made gas guzzlers obsolete. It was interesting to see them give away a Toyota since that was really the first year that the US discovered the value of a Japanese car.

1:55 triple green!5:01 it's a Edsel! Yes in 1961 what was called the Comet was to be the new sportier, more economical Edsel. But Ford killed the brand and what was a stand alone brand in '60 and '61 became the Mercury Comet in 1962.9:15 odd color on that Vega.

@seatime674 That 472 made GOBBS of horsepower when it was introduced in 1968. The EPA killed thier performance with thier emission requirements starting in 1971 for GM
