How do you know they don't? People have said constantly that they saw a particular item on the show a few days prior, and that was the price. Or they've been out window shopping and noticed those prices (that's how I always came close with the price of cars). I'll give you they can't see Bob's card, but if you think you know it from previous encounters, why not go for it and try to make the $500 bonus? There's only so many products out there that advertisers are willing to place, and some producers are OK with people trying to memorize prices from the show because that means they're watching every day, which keeps the producers in business.

The Price Is Right has always encouraged the audience to yell out prices. The story behind this clip is that Jose was told the price by Theodore Slauson an audience member and avid viewer of the show. Slauson, studied the prices from previous episodes as they remained the same from show to show. In fact there are a ton of episodes where contestants listened to him, and some of those shows have 4 or more perfect bids. This is the same Theodore Slauson who provided the exact bid amount to a contestant in the show case show down which resulted in the show changing how the prices are determined to ensure that memorization could not longer occur.

For those of you who are struggling to find out why bidding 999 was a bad idea here. If indeed Jose thought it was less then 1,000 he could have bid $1 and had 100% chance of winning. But since he bid $999 if the price was $998 or less they all would have lost and had to rebid. Either he was absolutely dumb but got lucky, or he somehow really thought it was $999 dead on, but still most people would play it safe and say $1.

Nick Cowan I've seen one episode of The Price is Right where the first person bid $1, the second person bid $2, the third person bid $3 and then the fourth person bid $4 and automatically won. It was hilarious, and also goes to show that bidding $1 can be risky depending on what strategy other people use. Technically everyone could do that and it would guarantee the last bidder to win every time, but that would also take the suspense out of the show. If everyone started doing that, my guess is the director would come in and tell them to bid something else and re-shoot, or just change the format of the game. But people rarely do that, because it's a pretty unsafe strategy unless you're the last person bidding.

+Daniel Cox I think Bob was referring to the fact that Jose won by bidding a dollar under another person because the only possible way for him to win is to get it exactly right or the other person would be closer to the correct price (or they both go over). I'm sure plenty of other people have gotten the price exactly right before, just not with such a close bid.
@MarkReddington
@MarkReddington 8 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Cox Yes, getting the correct bid happens in many, many episodes. But never has anyone gone last and bid a dollar under another bid and got the price right. That was a stupid move because the rules are closest without going over, so if he was the last person why would he bid one dollar less than 1000 instead of one dollar more? One dollar less than 1000 only gave him 1 chance of winning at all, bidding one dollar more than 1000 would have gave him 200 chances of winning.

honestly, I don't understand either. Jose bid $999 and Bob compared it to the $1000 bid. The next highest bid is $1200, and the last $1300 I think? So If the real price is $999 or lower, Jose actually made a pretty good guess. Why was it a bad guess?
@mobus1603
@mobus1603 3 жыл бұрын
@@ryanconnolly1950: You can't bid over the retail price, so if the price were $998, José would have lost, and everyone would get to guess again. He had to be exactly right to win. If José had bid $1, he would win if the retail price were anywhere between $1 and $999, which would give him the best odds. You & José didn't understand that you couldn't win if you guessed over the retail price.

He saw the item on a previous episode, and remembered the price. He didn't give a shit what Bob told him because from the second he saw the item and saw the other three bids before him didn't get it exactly, that he was going to bid the exact amount and win $500 to help cover the taxes.
