You're lucky. Where I'm at, confession is still not allowed, same with masses at the church as a regulation to c o v i d, but I would want to go. My last was March 2020 before we went into lock down. God would not remember your sins after confession, and priests said they wouldn't remember it either.

@rick rogue I'm in similar situation. Last year, after relaxed restrictions, I wept at mass after months of being away. Now currently it's post second lockdown but diocese I am in will not allow masses yet. I doubt penitential services will held anytime soon here, I'm guessing earliest is next year. I hope it gets better soon wherever you are and God bless!

I believe it's important to not say "It's ok" when someone has really hurt us, but instead to really say "I forgive you." When someone hurts me, I don't want to let them know that what they did was fine, but I do want to let them know that I am very grateful for their humility to seek forgiveness and to seek to reconcile our relationship, so instead I would say "Thank you, I forgive you." I believe it is important to let someone know that they are forgiven, as that is what they probably really want, not to be told that what they did was fine, but to know that their wrongdoing will not be held against them, and that there will be no resentment kept against them; that they are forgiven for what they have done.

All things in relation to the Father can never be taken for granted and cannot be taken seriously enough. Some may consider this fanatical. Our Almighty and Merciful Father and Creator humbled Himself to become a weak and poor creature, sinless among sinners. He suffered immensely and died a horrible death for the sake of our miserable souls. And for 2000 years since His great and Holy Sacrifice we still punish our Savior. You better believe it costs. God love you Fr. Mike. May the Almighty and Merciful Father have pity on our souls.

This is something that, in modern society, we only realize when someone else costs us something....and we are less likely to acknowledge when WE cost someone else something. We also gloss over the small things, which aren't really small because the small things make up who we are as people. As far as being late...I'm going to put it to you like my dad put it to me (because I used to not have good timing too) "When you are late you are showing a lack of respect for the other person's time and life AND you are proving that you are not a person of your word. So, if you say you are going to spit on the court house lawn at noon you better be there working up a spit by 11:45". I haven't been late since then....Because I never want to disrespect other people's lives.
@ambersocie71743 жыл бұрын
When I say I'm sorry, I believe that I am taking responsibility for my own actions. But listening to this I was struck that maybe people don't repent because they don't know how much they are worth. Yes, Lord...what it cost Jesus...his life to give us everlasting life without price... without number of years and without the consequence of sin that is death....now I feel a bit more compassionate to people who are angry at me... because I'm thinking.." they don't know what they're worth?"

Grace of the Lord be with you Fr. Mike. "My ways are far above your ways." Relays to me that we cannot dare ascribe value judgements on any part of the Trinity. That a "price" has been "paid" is an allegory or analogy for us to have some understanding of what has occurred via the Crucifixion. We must, I'm arguing, think about this on a couple of levels. Our way and His. Only we can never reach His way.

I give some leniency if Padre is late. Reason: I always think of, Padre could be late due to an emergency situation that he got called to an hour before Mass. Went to attend the emergency and it just took him a little longer than expected. If Padre is late on a continuous basis; however, then maybe pull Padre aside and let him know in a respectful manner. It may be that this has become a habit that he has gotten maybe comfortable with and didn't realize it. Last thing, this doesn't just apply to priests but also with the laity and religious. We should strive to get to Mass early unless an emergency occurs. Thank you Fr. Mike for this much needed reminder.

Tomorrow's gospel: «Forgive and you will be forgiven. Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.» We reiterate it everhday in the Our Father: Forgive us AS we forgive others. During my heart attack, while I was watching my vitals crash on the monitor, I spoke to God for the first time in many MANY years. But I did what I’d imagine most people would do in that situation, I asked God to keep my heart beating long enough for the cardiologist/surgeon to get there and do his job. I promised to try and open myself to him and his existence. I spent most of my life studying other religions….questioning and sometimes flat out denying his existence….even though deep down I didn’t 100% believe what o was saying. I felt the pull to return to the church for the past several years, before I started having health issues. And now that I’m doing my best to be open….I feel nothing….no pull….just….emptiness and aloneness. I mean….I deserve it….but I wasn’t expecting that feeling….idk what I was expecting tbh….but it wasn’t that….I’m still trying though. Praying daily. Multiple times a day. Studying. Just….idk….kind of a pointless comment but I needed to say it somewhere….figure this was probably one of the better places to get it out….🤷♂️

This reminds me When I do something that I should not have done or something I should have done it goes both ways. I asked God to help me not to repeat it. Let me use an example I took my wife to work and I was late picking up my kids at school . I should have been more cautious on the time picking up my kids . On the other hand if you commit a sin that you shouldn't not have done you also need to repent. This was a good topic and make me think I need to keep the eye on the time when I pick up my kids. Put on the mess I usually get there 45 minutes early That way I can think about the holy dominion and the price that Jesus Christ paid for me on the cross. It's only one thing that really bothers me I'm not judging someone else we're supposed to be listening to the priest and someone forgot to turn off the cell phone . So why I learned from this not to look at them when their phone goes off That can happen to anyone . But for myself I leave the phone in thnicar so I don't disturb other people I'm not judging them I'm just talking about myself what I do So I can meet with the Lord

Everytime I want to go to confession I know I have to make at least 3 tries untill o get the priest availble for that. And I thought it might be because I am beeing tested Iike the Canaan woman... ( our priests always say, when they talk about that,, "how many of us would still insist after beeing rejected and humiliated like that"- althought I guess the Lord was not saying that according to his beliefs, and the test was not for The woman, but to prove sth to the other jewish people )

We all know that priests have lots of agenda to take care of besides responding to emergency calls here and there, so if the mass has to be celebrated "six or seven minutes, or much later, then it is not a big deal because we come to church to pray, to celebrate mass, to have quiet time, etc... Sometimes, there is music, or the choir to sing for us before mass, or someone will keep us posted with news or upcoming events while waiting for the priest to arrive. Father Mike was just being nice to ask for "forgiveness" in that circumstance. I haven't yet come across any readings in which Jesus mentioned the word "cost" or " it costs..." because in business, cost is the monetary value spent by a company to produce something. God is All-Loving, He would rather spend time with us each moment. He loved us dearly and unconditionally regardless whether we reciprocate or not, so He definitely would never comment about a price of forgiveness.

I often hear people say that they have no worries because Jesus paid for their sin. I seldom hear mentioned that the person they harmed must also pay for their sin. All people that love God will love truth and helping others and hate deceit and harming others. If we harm someone then we should make it up to them in a way that they are actually happy about the original offense. So that if they were asked to be offended again for the same reward (or recompense) they’d say yes - that they’d do it again. Otherwise, we go to our grave knowing that, for this person, we did more harm than good and may find ourselves not in God’s favor. Granted, it’s a lot easier to make up for minor offenses than the big ones - say, being a little late or impatient as opposed to destroying someone’s life. But that’s obvious. Many people may not care about this - may not care about leaving things better than they found them - but they are not the people that would watch this channel.
