1:12:00 What I like about Tack's wedding outfit is that his drawings in the form of golden squares and triangles imitate his old decrepit clothes, which, if you look closely, he sewed many times with cuts and other pieces of fabric. And even when he got married and became a Sultan, the new suit shows that he remained the same.

Knowing the near 30 year history of this movie’s production, it is a terrible shame that Richard Williams was never able to release it the way he envisioned. He was determined to make this the single-greatest animated film ever created, with more emphasis on the visuals than the story or characters. That said, though, having watched the fan-edited recobbled cut, you can see why the people backing this film felt that changes needed to be made, and why Williams needed to be fired as director. As impressive as many of the visuals were - or would’ve been - they were drawn out much longer than necessary, and most audiences would’ve been keen for the story to move along. The new director knew how hard the animation team had been working on the scenes - even drawing twice as many pictures than what was usually required at 24-per-second - but he had to cut them for the sake of pacing. It’s why the end credits feature many of the deleted scenes as a compromise. Furthermore, some of the additions made, such as giving Tac dialogue and narration, plus the musical numbers weren’t too bad. The former gives a some scenes better context and the latter are entertaining. Although, I agree the end result makes the film feel like a ripoff of Disney’s Aladdin.

I remember seeing parts of this via commercials as a kid and the scene where they consult the witch and the thief tries to glide down to get the ruby and wanted to see the whole thing. After hearing about the whole story, I saw the original version on here and then checked out this version (it's actually pretty enjoyable, feels more complete and not overly Disney-ish) and I actually CAN see Tack being selectively mute, only talking when important or comfortable with someone (Princess Yum-Yum for example!) This voice fits him better IMO. My personal take: I'd cut out some of the narration, the brigands' music number, add some of the original scenes that weren't included in the film and I think we've got something! P.S. Richard Williams created a visual gem BTW, the character and world designs are AMAZING! I LOVE Tack and Princess Yum-Yum as characters on their own and as a couple, and the thief is an UTTER gremlin. ^^

And what’s unique about the Sullivan-Bluth hand drawn animated films is that they’re all animated on 2s, which if I recall correctly on my somewhat okay knowledge of animation, means animating at 12 frames per second thus seeing a slower rate yet still can make fast movements look presentable while Disney 2D animation used both animation on 1s and 2s.

Although I'm not a fan of the musical numbers and the sound effects, this is still far better than Arabian Knight (and the Princess and the Cobler Workprint). I have no idea why Harvey Weinstein put 1990s style video game music in the one eye camp scene rather than leaving the music that Robert Folk had in there from the Princess and the Cobbler. Although the Robert Folk music for the One Eye camp doesn't go very well with the scene compared to the version in the Williams Work-print, I actually prefer the music for the charm Beasts part of the scene in Princess and the Cobbler and wish I could find it.

This is no the original version, the original version is called: “The thief and the cobbler”. This is not a copy of the thief and the cobbler, is a modify version, of Calvert. The film: “Arabian Knight” is a modify version of THIS FILM (the princess and the cobbler). The thief and the cobbler is the original, and is better, of the two another version. This is bored because Calvert stole the rights of the film to Richard Williams, (the author of The thief and the cobbler). And make this HORRIBLE version. After make this UGLY film, he sell the film to Harvey Weinstein, that make arabian knight. I think the omission of the scene where Zigzag presents the concubine is a curious choice. That scene not only demonstrated the ways in which a crooked character like Zigzag can win the favor of the king, it also demonstrates the indifference of the king to things which do not excite him, i.e. the poor. We can extrapolate from here the conditions in other parts of the kingdom, assuming a positive relationship between the king's decisions and their effects on the kingdom.

Wow, Richard Williams? I'm pretty sure he has a lot to his name, but that's also the guy behind 'The Animator's Survival Kit'. A must have book if you're an animator, or interested in becoming one. Heck, I'd say it's still hella great even if you're just into drawing. Lots of nuance you can pick up from it.
