What's funny is the Mia Thermopolis in the books was a brash, loud-mouthed political activist. She was a vegan, she wore combat boots, like she had a clear, undeniable character. She was not pretty, she did not have men drooling all over her, and she cared very deeply and very passionately about being a good leader. In fact, that was what made her NOT want to be a leader in the first place. But once she comes to terms with it, she really embraces the idea. It's so, so, so sad that Meg Cabot's character, who was a CHARACTER, with both likeable and unlikeable personality traits, was reduced to... to.... this.

The reason the first movie worked so well for a lot of us was that it was RELATABLE while still being comedic. As teenage girls, we found it compelling. Maybe none of us ever became princesses in an incredible twist of fate, but we all went through feeling left out, having conflicts with our friends and families as our lives changed, feeling like we didn’t fit in, wanting to change things for the better and not knowing how. And even as adults we still love it because we may not be teenage girls anymore, but we remember how all of that felt. All of that just goes right out the window in this movie. No teenage girl could relate to this movie or any of the relationships in it and that’s sad.

This is the problem with books being turned into movies, everyone has their own idea of how things happened and their own idea of what the characters look like. It doesn't matter how well these things are described in the books, everyone will always have their own view of how things should be and they'll have their own expectations of how it should be if it were turned into a movie. When I read a book, I know for me at least, it's like a movie playing in my head, I picture how I see things and my mind takes it from there. But when a book is made into a movie, everyone is expecting their own version of the book and how they imagined it to be. Not everyone will have the same image and going to see a movie that's based off of a book, you have to go in understanding that the creator made the movie based on how he interpreted the book. Point is, it's going to be different for everyone.

To be fair, often events and characters that were memorable in the books are cut or added in movies.

though sometimes an adaptation are just shitty movies on their own. *THE HOBBIT* or the book was already bad. *READY PLAYER ONE* or they simply didn't care about adapting nor even try to do their own thing. you get the idea...

Did she go to Community college? You don't graduate at 18 and finish university at 21 unless you are RIDICULOUSLY hard working. And considering what we've seen of Mia's life up to that point, I doubt she busted ass to finish in 2 1/2 -3 years.

Actually, the Barbie Princess & the Pauper movie teaches you more about being royalty than this movie does. Thinking back, that movie was one of the best in my childhood, because it was a fun, well written story that had interesting female characters and a good message. That was before the time when barbie movies were nothing but pink rainbow barf. That movie was so much better than this one in every way, and the songs were phenomenal.
