I love your videos. We both love Princess Flowers and Canna Lillies. 💜 Thank you for your videos. I’ve learned a lot from you about gardening and love that you usually explain how to propagate flowers. Thank you. ❤️ Cute dog by the way.

Thanks for posting this video. My landlord's father brought one back from his country and planted it in the California house I'm now renting. Unfortunately, it's dying in parts due to termite damage. I was wondering if it could be propagated and then I found your video. SO GLAD I found it. Hopefully I can do it and then present it to my landord as a gift.

Thanks for sharing and thank you for following my channel. I too love the Princess flower and propagation is very simple. Great idea to gift it to your landlord and don't forget to also propagate for yourself. Best wishes.

Thank you for this. I enjoyed your detailed descriptions, including the veining of the leaves and use of flowers for Easter services. I'll try cuttings again and expect success!

Hi it is so easy to propagate. If there are any issues feel free to DM me.

There’s a house on my way to work that has these in the yard. I always admired how pretty the leaves looked and I could never figure out what species of plant it was through google image search. I didn’t realize it had purple flowers on it until today; they must have just bloomed. That made it so much easier to figure out what plant this was and now I can purchase one! Thanks for teaching us how to take care of it and make more of them!

Hi from Australia. I love all of your informative and relaxing videos. Thank you for sharing them. I will try propagate my Tibouchina and keep it cut a bit smaller in a pot. I am gifting it to my daughter for her new house and large garden. The purple varieties are the most popular here in the subtropics, and I have always had this variety, along with my Mum. Now I have a Tibouchina Kathleen. It has glorious pink flowers densely covering it in spring and autumn. I will have to keep it heavily pruned, as i just found out it grows to up to 5m H x 6m W. I'm a bit disappointed about its size as it will be too big in the place I have planted it. Do you think I could manage the size by pruning it?
@redsoilgardenerАй бұрын
Hi thank you for sharing. I am sure your daughter will love her gift. Pruning down the bush can be done. This should be done early spring or late winter so that the plant has time to recover during the growing season in Spring and summer. Also do remember that by pruning it will encourage side shoots making the plant bushier. Thus affect the airflow and the light penetration in the plant. Therefore do remove dead branches and any cross branches in the plant. Happy gardening and Greetings from Nairobi, Kenya.

Awesome video! Can these be propagated in water?
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the episode. I normally propagate the Princess flower through soil propagation. Am sure water propagation can work.

I'm in Northern California. One tibouchina I had in a pot never did well. I planted two in our clay soil. Both have done well with one handling our 100 degree heat in the summer. The other I planted in November well into our cool fall season and it has been blooming all winter. I'm surprised it's handled our cold winter with little direct sunlight while staying in bloom for about 5 weeks now. I've only frost protected it on the nights we get down to freezing.

Thank you for posting video and I am so love princess flower and I try to propagate how often do you water after plant in the soil?
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
Hi, so glad you love the Princess Flower, I love the blooms. When propagating keep the soil moist but not soggy. By having moist soil the plant will start getting rooting. If the plant has got strong rooting, do move it into a pot and slowly introduce it in your garden. In indirect sun, to ensure that the plant doesnt go into a transplant shock. Once it settles I would continually ensure that the soil is moist especially during summer and also when it starts blooming. Once its completely settled then I would water once a week and gradually lessen as it is drought resistant.

How long did the propagation take?
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
With the propagation I think it took about two - 3 months. It started slowly and then took off.

I have one that I planted a couple of years ago. 1) it’s not blooming and 2) can I cut it back to make a shrub
@redsoilgardener5 ай бұрын
Yes, as the flowers form at the tip of the branches, by pruning it, the shrub will become bushier and produce more blooms. From every branch you cut, two branches will form meaning more flowers forming at the tip of the branch.

Help Alice! I have a princess flower that I thought was dead for maybe 4/5 years . However we had a lot of rain about a month & 1/2 age and to my surprise the plant started to emerge, it is now about 2 feet tall. What I need to know is how much fertilizer should I use and how often? Can I send you a picture of the old (dead) plant and the new plant growing at the base of the old plant also can I cut down the old plant just branches no flowers or leaves? Thank you Alice
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
Hi thanks for sharing. The princess flower can surprice you as once the mature they become somewhat drought tolerant and can appear to have died. I would assume that with these heat waves it conserved itself and as they do like moisture the rain really helped. Feritlizing would be in spring, summer and fall. Manure or fertilizer that is for acid loving plants. Inquire at the garden centre. Also inorder to preserve it add mulch at the bases and water more in summer as they do like moisture. They also do have runners that start at the base and would run alongtheir rooting system. You may just need to prune the branches of the old one down and mulch the base and water deeply once a week to keep soil moist but not soggy. Let see after all that if it revives. Retain the new plants at base and if the old one doesnt revive you can then cut down the old one. DM me the photo and we can decide onnext course of action.

How long did it take your stem to develop those roots?
@redsoilgardener Жыл бұрын
Hi Kelly, I started the propagation during our cold season so everything was slower. Lets say with the right conditions i.e. good growing medium with vermiculite to retain moisture, light but not direct light and in a warm environment should take about two months.
@geriannroth4493 ай бұрын
Can it be propagated by seeds too?
@redsoilgardener3 ай бұрын
Hi, I find stem propagation works fast. I have never attempted a seed propagation but that could be an idea. Thank you for your support.
@geriannroth4493 ай бұрын
@redsoilgardener great please try it and let us know. I'm in the Caribbean so it's easier & more viable to import seeds than cuttings.

Hi, When we started the channel I wanted to show the flowers in my garden. So in the introduction I always display the flowers in bloom at that particular time, to capture the moment.
