The Nintendo Switch launched over 6 years ago spawning several hit games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In the past few years, rumors and speculation has only been growing stronger of what Nintendo could do for their next gaming system. Where could they go after the Switch?
Some think its as simple as just increasing the power of the hardware, making the Switch 4k, but it goes much deeper then that. Let's talk about it.
These are some of my first few actual videos, please leave feedback in the comments please!

I think one of the best ways to improve the switch would be to give the dock more than just a "hdmi adapter" role. kinda like a egpu. put a power hungry hot mess of a gpu in the dock because that ones always plugged into the wall to support 4k or at least some form of 4k upscaling and keep the portable experience energy efficient and soc level and possibly sell the dock and the switch separately as some kind of "pro dock" for the enthusiasts and a typical just hdmi output dock bundled with the base model now add backwards compatibility and release new games exclusive to the new console and maybe do stuff like home screen customization and some additional fun features like maybe street pass etc. like on the DS and you got people swarming over to the new ecosystem.

Have two modes, battery and performance. Battery would rely on the switch hardware and performance would be on the dock processor. This would solve cooling issues while maintaining user control Also. I think they could drastically enhance the experience of the Switch 2's operating system. System wide voice chat, system wide game invites, a system web browser that is accessible, an eshop that doesn't lag, system themes, achievements. The switch OS is less feature rich than the Wii's somehow, and I wonder if Nintendo is holding back improving it until the switch 2.

Realistically, the Switch is more than powerful to handle all of that. It's rather because Nintendo isn't bothering with the OS in favor of "minimalism," the same problem that affected the Pringles logo. As for the Eshop, it's so laggy because the codebase I have to assume is so damn messy and bloated for no good reason. The 3ds and Wii U eshop had a more appealing yet were much faster. To sum it up, Nintendo really isn't trying because they know they'll still make a profit. They're not going to waste time for something that won't affect sales.

When I first heard of the Switch, I wondered if the dock would contain a dedicated GPU that the Switch could _switch_ all its rendering to to drastically improve its horsepower when connected to a TV. It's still something I wish any portable form-factor gaming system could do. Well, besides prohibitely expensive laptops with also prohibitely expensive USB 4/Thunderbolt eGPU cases. I want PCI express add-in hardware on mobile platforms to be normalized. The interfaces are already there, they're just not open for user access. More specifically, when the Framework laptop 16 releases, I hope its open-source, portable PCIe interconnect design is enough of a success to become a standard. I can live with every Android phone and tablet having no eGPU drivers out of the box, as long as the hardware has complete USB 4 support so I can then root and install them ;)

@3lH4ck3rC0mf0r7
@3lH4ck3rC0mf0r7 Жыл бұрын
@@lemmy154 Just having "competent (mobile) hardware" (mobile processors are a requirement for the beefed up portables the Switch and Steam Deck are, for the reasons I'll delve into below) isn't enough to compete with a system that is just as electrically efficient while having 10 times more electrical current available to it at any given time. Just try to shove 320 watts down a Steam Deck, I dare you. Spoiler alert: it'll catch on fire. To handle that kind of current, you need the bigger footprint. Trying to squeeze desktop-grade performance out of a tiny, current-limited 30 W TDP integrated GPU that even shares memory with the CPU results in an expensive little system. Just look at top-of-the-line ultrabooks. You can build a better fullsize desktop for less than half the price. It's also silly to render a 4K resolution image on a Steam Deck-sized display when a 720p image at that size is already too dense for the naked eye to tell the pixels apart, so for portable mode, absolutely nothing has to change. Besides, you know, the things that would've been upgraded anyway by the generational lift. And perhaps going a little bit faster on the dRAM than they otherwise might've, since the Switch's is so slow... The storage, GPU, and VRAM take the main brunt of the force with 4K. The CPU and main memory are hit pretty similarly compared to 720p, so they can stay exactly the same. So, having an integrated GPU for portable mode and a dedicated one with its own separate VRAM for docked mode just makes sense. The system would not only switch clockspeeds, render resolutions and game quality profiles when switching modes, which the Switch and all its games, not to mention PC, PS5 and Xbox series systems already do, but also continue rendering with the integrated GPU and having the dedicated GPU do upscaling while it streams the 4K-quality assets from the storage media to its dedicated VRAM, and report back to the main CPU when it's ready to seamlessly switch out render contexts and start doing the actual rendering for the game. All game developers would have to do are things they already do or at least used to do often. Compiling an extra set of GPU shaders for docked mode is nothing, they already compile multiple sets of shaders, one set for every single console out there, and perhaps several sets if that game has multiple quality profiles. If the software just asks it to, Vulkan has no problem switching a game to a different GPU. In fact, the Windows desktop renders using your available GPU, and it already has the capability to switch what GPU it renders with on the fly without skipping a beat. And at least back in the day, even simple things like changing the rendering resolution forced you to completely reboot the graphics stack, which meant invalidating all handles to the GPU and starting over. So many game engines are already coded in a way that was just one step away from full-on, on-the-fly GPU switching. PCIe surprise hotswap is a thing on server motherboards, after all. And you might be surprised to learn all modern consumer GPUs support PCIe surprise hotswap as well, even if consumer motherboards don't. So you still bluescreen if you try this at home, but just so you know, it's not the GPU's fault. They hotswap perfectly on the right hardware. This is the basis for USB4 eGPU cases. At the end of the day, the science behind dynamically switching to a dedicated GPU involves almost entirely engineering problems that were already solved for one reason or another. All the puzzle pieces are already out there, so it's not that much work getting them to fit together. But a portable system will never compete with a non-portable one unless it can offload some of its work to a coprocessor that is not size-constrained, doesn't have to be designed around a battery, and therefore can take full advantage of the energy grid. That coprocessor could've been an eGPU shaped like a dock.

The reason why the Wii U sold badly was because the Wii was a fad. Casuals had moved on to mobile games and hardcore gamers were simply burned by its casualness, so both of them could care less about the Wii U. The name and marketing just added to this confusion. However I think the Wii U ended up having a great library of games because it sold badly so they were trying harder.
@tomykong2915
@tomykong2915 Жыл бұрын
That was not why the Wii U failed, it was between marketing and Nintendo being uncooperative with 3rd party devs, leading to most 3rd party titles, not taking advantage of the functionality of the Wii U over other consoles To expand on the Marketing side: Did you know that breath of the wild was released on Wii U before switch? By a lot even. It was also marketted inconsistently, too minimal at the start and after that, they switched their focus on what to market it based off of constantly, they oversold the "portability" despite it being a home console firmly, it wad confusing marketing, the wii wasn't really a fad, a lot of the switch's functionality includes 1 to 1 similarities of what made the wii what it is. The afterlife of the Wii U is actually pretty good, since it's even better for modding and emulation than the Wii was, when the Wii still stands up as an amazing system for those aspects alone, let alone the rest of it's stuff

It made me laugh at the wall street journal for how dumb they are for not knowing any better that a cable to an device has been done for years now. I feel that the Wii Us name didn’t help it at all, and like you said people thought it was an addon for the OG Wii. If the switch successor is called Switch 2 that should be a good bit clearer that that’s the next big console release from Nintendo. Obviously they will still need good games and marketing but it should be enough to make people understand that it’s not just another variant of the OG switch. One other popular name I’ve seen floating around is Super Nintendo Switch which I feel should be reserved for a mid gen power+performance upgrade model of the switch 2

This console need a feature hook to let them buy and a decent performance boost to 1 tflops to allow Nintendo to make their visionary games. @@lizard.y I have a concept for the successor of the switch, can you take a look? I don’t think the successor is gonna be graphically focus, it can be 1.5 tFlops portable and 1.8 tFlops docked as the successor just need to run Nintendo game decently and not having 4K support as 4K isn’t that noticeable, the performance is probably similar to the original 2013 PS4 and Xbox one. What they will aim for is 1080p60 portable and 1440p60 docked, also they’re gonna keep the hybrid from factor and have backward compatibility to transfer the switch player to the new system. Even though there is leak that shows the switch successor have 3 tFlops portable and 4 tFlops docked, I think that is just a experiment with a powerful upgrade and t239 may not be the final chip of the switch successor. The successor should also have a new hook, it can be my ‘attach’ idea, basically we add a slide rail to the top of the system for you to attach ‘attachments’. Attachments can be the platform for Nintendo to innovate without making new console. I have 3 examples of ‘attachment’, a second screen attachment that allows you to slide it to the top rail of the switch(attach) with a hinge connecting the screen and the system. The screens are put into a top(second screen) and bottom(main console) orientation like the DS. This can also be used separately when docked or in tabletop mode with two joy-cons on the side of the second screen, which also you to use it as a tablet-like device with main content on TV and others on the second screen that you hold like the Wii U. This allows for extra displayed content, two screen interactions and asymmetric multiplayer. A 3D screen can also be introduced with a 3D slider and a stereoscopic screen which is more expensive but allows for 3D experience like the 3DS. The second attachment can be a camera module that can be used attached portably and detached with kickstand docked, this allows for AR experience that interact with the real world like the ones from DSi/3DS. The module can have a front and 2 rear facing camera with a microphone. The final one is a VR band that have no hardware in it, it can only be used attached portably and transform the console into a VR headset which allows for VR experiences, VR is not enough to focus solely on the new console given it’s not mature and quite niche, making it one of the attachments makes sense as they can have less risk for trying a VR headset. The console can be named ‘Nintendo Attach & Switch’ as a reference to the Game & Watch and indicate the hybrid and the new attach mechanic really well. The attach mechanic is a platform for new idea, not a single new idea, here are only the example, more things can be done. I see them announcing a 6’ OLED normal version with 64GB for $299 and a 7’ OLED XL version with 128GB for $349. This allows them to aim at a mainly portable or a core audience.

I’d say 2025 would be a great time to release it but 2024 is possible especially when you consider Metroid Prime 4, a new DK, and a new Mario are likely planned for that year. When the Switch 2 does come out in 2024 or 2025 the original Switch will drop in price (OLED $250, Base Switch $200, Lite $100). I mean if Nintendo follows these patterns they could outsell the PS2.

I think a really easy means of upgrading the switch would be to reintroduce some parts from the 3ds/ds handhelds that they gutted for the switch. And by this I mean things like a camera, mic and stylus returning for this hybrid console. They can even upgrade/update some of these elements like making the stylus a somewhat hybrid of their old plastic pointed stylus's but a bit rubberier like tablet stylus's, or make the mic better since the small ones have definitely come a long way since they 3ds, maybe a camera lens at the top area on the switch could work. I also kinda hope that they actually make the base console more enjoyable like they did with the 3ds; maybe a new streetpass would be good, or bringing back the AR cards that the 3ds had for a period of time but with amiibo cards instead, face raiders was pretty distinct and noteworthy so maybe something equivalent for the next console? The base Switch, as great as it is, definitely leans heavy on the home console side. So adding elements from the handheld side of the family might be the best move to pull here as a means of adding things that are "new" but are very clearly familiar.

I like your idea but this would need to be incorporated into the controller making those poorly built Joy-con even more expensive and to the pro controllers in order to work in Docked Mode The PS5 Controller has a mic and it's awfully because I catches your inputs and everytime the rumble goes off which means it's completely useless for any general use Now the cameras would be dead on arrival, the 3ds cameras are so bad in quality even after the New 3ds revision, the problem is that smartphone companies use a lot of AI Processing to get super detailed Shots and for a minor feature on the switch 2 I don't think Nintendo will take their time to make it all work smoothly for the 5 games with camera support

There are issues with that. If you have a game that runs well docked, but runs terribly mobile, you don't really have a mobile gaming experience with that title. Or, if the game runs well mobile, it's not going to be particularly noticeable playing it at a higher resolution. Higher frame rates would be very noticeable, but I don't think the Switch's processor could keep a better GPU fed to keep up with that. And if you have a eGPU and eCPU, you basically have a console you plug your console into. It's a complicated balancing act.😊

I think one of their main areas for improvement is system software. They could (and probably should) take inspiration from other device makers (like Sony or Apple) and differentiate the new console by software features. For example, better social features, a good mobile app. Tie in the next generation of Nintendo games (Animal Crossing, Mario Kart...) with actually good phone apps that enhance the experience. Make things you do on your phone sync to the new console, to make the games feel even more alive. Plus better online capabilities. Combined with new titles and better graphics could already be enough to convince people
@coolestto

I don't know about all the phone stuff, but I agree software could be a big win for Nintendo that would also be really easy for them to implement. I mean we still don't have Netflix or themes for the Switch, which we all thought would surely be only a few months away back at launch. Online features are beyond primitive. Just a few big wins in these areas could make a Switch 2 feel like a massive leap forward.

I think, one of the things that damaged WiiU sales was the overall confusion on what the product actually was. It looked like the WiiU gamepad was the entire thing that was an add-on to the Wii and that the HD upgrade was optional. What I think they should do, if it's even possible, is to make the dock help run the games better and separately make a more powerful Switch while still making the majority of games compatible with the regular Switch for about a 3 year transition period. They sell the bundle as the Super Switch and the dock as an optional Switch enhancement. They always say they're still gonna support the previous console, but in therms of games that statement only last about a year at most, which is also a problem Nintendo has.

Great video! I think a switch 2/pro is definitely the easiest route for them to take, but they could do something that channels the mistakes of the past into success of the future. Along with a boosted handheld they could drop a “dock plus” or something of that nature. Something that while docked can push/over clock the older devices without the workload coming from the handheld… another thing they could add with an update is remote play especially for the switch lites, that way they could be used as a controller to play couch co-op on a friend’s “Dock+” … basically making it an upgraded Wii u… n finally all the social interactions they took out from Wii u n 3ds, mii plaza , Nintendo world, spot pass bonuses. None of those things exist cuz it would lag and run like trash on their current hardware, but the “switch 2” could definitely bring some life back the the bland 2 colour u I we had for 7 years

One thing that really confuses me is why they don't just make Tears of the Kingdom the debut game for the next console. Breath of the Wild arguably saved Nintendo, because it essentially served as a reminder that they can still make excellent games after the poor sales of the Wii U. There are clear concerns with Nintendo having a rough period transitioning from the Switch to something else, and there are also clear concerns of Tears of the Kingdom not living up to its hype due to the Switch's hardware limitations. It really seems like you can fix all of these problems by having Tears of the Kingdom be the debut game for the next console. With Tears of the Kingdom winning most anticipated game at the Game Awards, making it a debut game for the next console will ensure the console starts out financially succesful. Like you're telling me that Tears of the Kingdom is one of the 4 upcoming Nintendo games. They couldn't wait one more year for the next console to release Tears of the Kingdom? Those last 4 Nintendo games should be reserved for minor shit like a new Mario vs Donkey Kong or something, so that they can spend their energy on the next console and on Tears of the Kingdom.

In my case, i have been a Zelda fan for many years, but back in 2021 i was more hyped for Metroid Dread than this BoTW sequel. Now some of this hype has come back with the last trailers, and I already pre-ordered, but if they had announced a 2024 release date, my interest would have decreased considerably, and if they had made it a next-gen exclusive i would have thought "nah, I'm not buying that on full price, I'll wait until the console gets a price cut"

The newest leak from t239 the spec have suggested the chip is adopted for something else(perhaps a Sony handheld project) as it is 3 teraflops while assuming the same cooling system. The dev kit are recycled for Sony and the nvn(Switch) mode are remains of early development and presumably depredated. Then, what chipset? @@alessandrooliveira3218 I don’t see they do 3 teraflops, too power hungry, incompatible and expensive. There is a reason why they abandoned the t239 after 2021. The chip will make the switch successor having a mere 1 hour-1 hour 30 minutes battery life and cost something more like PS or Xbox. I don’t see them abandoning hybrid, raising the price by significant margin and incompatible with the Switch. Apple is already investing in ARM and since PS/Xbox probably want something more inline with the M chip, it can be in one of the planned console and battery life would not be a concern as it’s a home console constantly plug into an outlet. In addition, the Switch successor would want to keep the popular hybrid from factor and switch compatibility, also having a brand new feature as the hook to the successor and Nintendo have always wanted to be innovative and accessible where is t239 is anti-Nintendo with the high price and killing hybrid idea and prohibit new ideas as well since it requires resource and the hybrid form factor too.

Interesting video! One thing i think you should have considered with "just a graphics upgrade" is something incredible they could pull off. So idk if you know much about PC, but to simplify it: NVIDIA is a company who made the switches process has added a new feature over the last few years called DLSS, where a game is run at a very low resolution, and AI is used to upscale it. It's honestly mind-blowing how good it works (I can send U a video if U wana see). Including this could mean that Nintendo could get massive performance jumps, battery life could get so much bigger, ect. If they can get DLSS working on switch, I think that's a game changer

Someone else stated something like this, but having some sort of upgrade to the dock could be a great play. Some sort of gpu into it to boost the video quality up as much as possible seen as it's going to be plugged into the wall, so power won't be too much of an issue. Maybe some storage, so that you can have all your games downloaded, and flick them between internal storage and dock storage. Fixing the joycons also needs to be a priority. Once they can nail the controllers, they can focus on beefing up the console and its' strengths. I'm still acknowledging how "just make it more powerful" was one of Nintendo's biggest fumbles, but if they play into the Switch's gimmicks properly, they could potentially make something great. The whole idea is that it can function as both a console AND a handheld. Beefing up the dock adds more to the handheld to console transition, as I often just got the impression that it was still a handheld, just blown up on my TV. Slapping some more power into it via the dock could let you play more demanding games at home, and more fun, chilled out games out and about. Reading over my own writing here, I can't deny that a lot of it just sounds like the Wii U, but this could be Nintendo's chance to do everything the Wii U failed at. Yes, they'll be similar, but it could be the success to parry the failure of the previous console. Getting to do it again, and this time do it *right*. An hey, they could add VR support to the handheld in order to justify a new console as opposed to just like the "Dock: Pro Version" idea. I mean, it has all the key parts, a screen big enough to function in VR (Although it may need some visual upgrades, i dont know) with handheld controllers that detach, wirelessly connected to the console itself. I dont know, i'm just tossing ideas around to be honest, but if Nintendo play their cards right, they could come out with something possibly revolutionary, and wipe the floor with the competition's faces. I just wish they wouldn't region lock everything and play moves like killing off the DS e-shop, but we all know that will never stop.

I think as long as they keep releasing big ip games like a BOTW 3, Mario Odyssey 2, Mario Kart 10, I could see the switch survive up to 10 years. I honestly see the switch lasting unti 2027.

You are correct, but the gamepad didn't help since it just looked like an accessory for the Wii, and it was really just another controller with is own mini-screen, only really utilized well in 1st party produced Nintendo games (3D World, Nintendo Land, etc) I do think it could've used another gimmick or two to make it more game changing

I always wanted a syncable system. Aka you can take it anywhere but sync it or desync it for dual screen, or other actions to interface with the console. Like the Wii U/Vita a handheld to sync it to the console but it's the same hardware like an Evercade having the console and handheld be similar but you can sync for dual screen gaming, or for saves and games. To me the Wii U did wireless the same way a phone casting to your TV with a third party app in the Google Play store. A device to cast to any screen is cool then just, well a console but I don't see console makers doing it. The 3DS $170 was because it didn't have a Mario then. I care about different games like that but people are stubborn in the casual world. People don't care about a Pilot Wings or Steeldiver and creativity they want familiar IPs. Sure the third parties tried but I think many people count those as not great which surprised me. Never played them myself but I am interested if I ever get the chance to see why they are in my own opinion then what critics said hence why western third parties gave up on 3Ds, the case for phones and Vita are what they are of sales and well care to execute anything besides for everyone games on them like Lego or something else. I have other dual screen or dual app/games on 1 screen aka like Windows 8 ideas but I doubt it will be done. No one seems to care about that. A dual screen phone even. Hardware is always something they experiment but wireless is something with the Wii U people clearly don't understand or care about so a dock with a. Cable wee got a step back in my opinion wireless is more impressive and it's what companies would want of course to get away from ethernet cables after all. But I mean think a handheld wirelessly to your TV without a console. I don't see it happening delay to the casting or so. The Wii U was innovative even though people don't understand it but the marketing was really bad when even the Switch at the kitchen out in the dock is all the Wii U needed to go oh a console, a disk drive to put disk games in, oh a Gamepad. It isn't hard but they never got it close enough. The games make sense of a new Mario 3D game. Others are getting definitive editions for sure. Mario Kart Deluxe with all DLC content for sure would happen. Tears of the Kingdom definitive edition and so on. For others no idea. I assume new games or well more definitive editions. The Wii U is my favourite Nintendo consoles for its tech. Library not so much of course but it does a good enough job Nintendo games or the third parties people ignore Tank Tank Tank, Devils Third as the second party deal. Among others.

Graphics have typically been one of the biggest reasons to develop a newer console, and IMO since at least the WiiU generation graphics have been good enough. I don't need to count the number of hairs on the characters face and I appreciate that Nintendo has focused on fun games (both in presentation and gameplay) rather than hyper realistic appearance. So I really don't think Nintendo should do anything more than a fully compatible but otherwise enhanced console, rather than starting over with a whole new console forcing everyone to upgrade to play the latest games. As an aside, I tend to think the WiiU's failure was largely marketing as they failed to make it obvious this was something entirely new, it is a great console with a lot of innovation going into it and I still use mine regularly.

Yeah no buddy, you’re wrong. “Graphics” isn’t just about how pretty things look, switch 2 having low system specs will prevent developers from porting their games to it and may even prevent some games developed FOR the console to compromise on some of its vision due to low system specs.

I know it sounds wierd but it would be cool if they made a switch, same specs, same quality, same everything but it's made a bit smaller and in the shape of a DS. I always thought it was so weird that a system that is supposed to portable can't fit in your pocket and even if it can you'll most likely damage the joycons.

That'd be a non-starter for those of us with big hands - it's already uncomfortable as it is to hold the Switch joycons! Maybe in the tiny-hands Japanese market though - but they might do something SIMILAR to that since they do seem to want to keep a hand on that smaller handheld sector too.

A big difference between the Switch and Wii is that the Switch familiarized mainstream audiences with many Nintendo IPs, most of which have staying power. Also it's a more appealing product in general, especially now that the industry is trending towards mid-sized games like fortnite and fall guys.

Very valid points; but the Wii U example isn't the best one, as it wasn't that geared to be a powerhouse (despite it being more powerful than the Wii) and was more focused on the gimmick of the Wii U pad than power. I thought you were going to say the PS2 to the PS3, as while the PS3 didn't fail, it didn't sell as well for the reasons you stated. Still; you do have strong points for what Nintendo could be worrying about. However; the success and the market the Switch created in gaming, is so strong that they could simply just make a more powerful Switch as a successor (with full backwards compatibility) and it would be very successful. I know that I refuse to buy any console that isn't a Switch like Hybrid and if Nintendo doesn't deliver; then I will buy what ever is the best hybrid PC is on the market at that time. I simply cannot go back to traditional consoles after enjoying and buying so many Switch games; and I don't care if it is not as powerful as the other current gen consoles. As long as it's only one step behind the current gen consoles in terms of power (as powerful as a PS4 Pro, but not quite a PS5); then I am sticking with Nintendo.

Very good point, but remember the Wii did the same with exposing so many new people to gaming, only for no one to get into the Wii U (although marketing, name, and such did contribute to that) The Wii and Switch attract also attract a large casual audience, who wouldn't care as much for just an upgraded version of the Switch
@enriquepinero707
@enriquepinero707 Жыл бұрын
@@lizard.y True. While hardcore gaming enthusiasts would be happy with simply a more powerful Switch; the casual and family oriented audience need distinguishing stand out features that set it apart from what the Switch already does. I was in a game stop yesterday over hearing two parents deciding to buy a Switch for their 14 year old daughter; and when the sales clerk was trying to convince them to buy another console or the Switch lite; they emphasized "It has to have anime games, be able to plug into the T.V and be able to be taken with her where ever she goes." That right there is a very specific function that only the Switch can do; so I see the challenge in Nintendo trying to deliver the same core function again, with more powerful performance AND unique features that cannot be done on any other system on the market; not even their own.

I think the Wii U’s name is what killed it, not to mention the fact that it looks exceptionally similar to the original Wii and the hardcore focus on the gamepad throughout the console’s life, which probably led many to think the Wii U was some sort of add-on. All I think they need to do to ensure success with a new Switch is to do what Sony does and put a number after the name so it is blatantly clear that the new console is an upgrade.

I think it would be a good idea to release a powerful dedicated home console to compete with the PS5 and Xbox, but also keep supporting the Switch as essentially their handheld (that can also be docked), kind of like how they supported the original Gameboy throughout multiple console generations- only giving it slight enhancements late into its life during the 3rd console they produced alongside it. This would also help them hedge their bets if the next console isn't successful.

I think it'll have a big push for supporting VR. VR is the best use of the motion controllers Nintendo's been into since Wii, and they've already tried it with the Switch, but it was underpowered and blurry. I'm not huge on Nintendo, but if I could play Mario Kart or Metroid in VR, it'd be an instant buy from me!

That would be very interesting, I just think they'd need to be smart pulling it off. One of Nintendos major focuses with their systems is easy accessibility, and they'd need to make the VR simple to access, a pick-up and play type thing. I'm sure they could pull it off tho

@@lizard.y They'd need headset to click the tablet into - it could contain hardware for inside-out tracking, too (and joycons support add-ons, so they could be reused, although not ideal) They already have OLED screen (although higher resolution would be needed to achieve atleast PSVR level of quality). Then they'd need some sort of frame generation to get 100+FPS - that's within realms of what Nvidia's chipset can do. The result would be cheaper than PSVR2, untethered, but more capable than Oculus. Overall, I think that VR as next gimmick could work out for Nintendo
