From a business standpoint, all of this og stuff returning works since Fortnite players are the biggest nostalgia merchants on the planet. I think Fortnite should watch the public opinion of old Fortnite change as people remember what made them hate the game so that it'll push them to pump out way better content that doesn't rely on the past.

hot take, but Chapter 3 was kinda the precursor to OG. Sure, it had a lot of new locations and items and storylines and all that bullcrap, but it was essentially almost the Chapter 1 map; the volcano, lazy Lagoon and the jungle was all in the same place (albeit the Daily Bugle was inside the volcano crater), Tilted, Greasy Grove and Loot Lake were in the same place, Shifty Shafts was there (but north of Tilted instead of south), and The Joneses was basically Lonely Lodge on a budget. There was a desert biome on the south half of the map, and a snow biome adjacent to Tilted, on the west side of the map (again, north instead of south). I don't think Seasons 1 and 2 were hated, though. This is when I really got into the game, and if I asked anyone else who was playing, they said that those seasons were really good, especially with the introduction of Zero Build in S2. Then Season 3 kinda fumbled a bit with its whole laid-back theme that didn't really resonate with a lot of people, even with the Darth Vader and Indiana Jones collabs (fun fact, that was my first Battle Pass!). Then Season 4 was ass because Epic dropped the ball story-wise, and the Fracture event bombed. So Chapter 3 was only really half-hated. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

I think a lot of the "magic" from Chapter 1 came from not knowing what was going to happen. I didn't constantly see leaks and didn't know ANYTHING until it was released in game. Nowadays I know just about everything beforehand, which is fine, it's just how it is now.

I think people need to realize that the reason they had more fun in Chapter 1 is because of the people the played with, who they don't play with now. I believe Layo made a point in his most recent video that even though he had fun with Chapter 5 and Reload, most of his fun was due to the people he was playing with, and I think that is the source of why people look back on Chapter 1 fondly. Also I think Fortnite is starting to hit a ceiling when it comes to innovation, you can only add so many new things over the course of 7 years.

The truth about nostalgia is that it only works so much. For example, Tobey Maguires return in No Way Home was amazing(For some people) but if he kept on coming back, it wouldn’t feel the same as when we first saw him return. I’m calling it, OG is going to be like LEGO last year. People are going to call it the Battle Royale killer, but it’s gonna end up with 50k players by the end of the year because after a while, OG chapter 1 will no longer be nostalgic for people because we now have it all the time.

One thing I will say, you don’t have to like newer seasons or chapters. Liking OG is fine (I didn’t play it but I can see how others do). It can get a bit much though when the small nostalgia starts to cloud accurate judgement. Titled Towers isn’t just better than Mega City because it’s OG for example, and it’s sometimes hard to differentiate between nostalgia and actual decent opinions. Just remember, Nostalgia is a drug that misconstrues our memories.

The same seems to happens every chapter. Ch2s7 was horrendous at the start because of the broken ufos and lackluster summer event yet people look back fondly. Same thing with ch5s1, back then it was baddly received yet people will say "it's the best season of the chapter". Strangely enough the reverse happened with primal. I rarely saw people complaining about it back then exept maybe for the primal shotgun yet people have grown to hate it for reasons that were blown out of proportion

The UFOs were NOT op? I'm usually not the type to say this but that's genuinely just a skill issue, slow shooting projectiles so just shoot at the ufo and before the UFO projectile hits you just build and repeat. Mechs and Planes are the only two player vehicles that I'd say were op, I'd say the CH5S3 cars were op as well but I didn't have a problem against them really so idk.

I’m kind of done with the OG community. If we’ve learned anything in these past few weeks, it’s that a lot of the OGs are some of the biggest cry babies in Fortnite history. I loved OG Fortnite, it was great because of its imperfections. I loved overpowered weapons and glitches and all that, it gave the game personality and made it special, in fact a lot of glitches became features of the game that people loved. But OGs have been crying about things being wrong with the game forever, and they’re the biggest reason Fortnite is what it is today, and I don’t mean that in a good way. Fortnite was such a fun game, with constant unique content, and an inflow of updates. But the og community were always complaining about the changes, so you can thank them that Fortnite seasons are so stale with very few changes now, and that any creativity has to come from content creators now. OG was the best experience I’ve ever had gaming, and I loved it for its imperfections and old features and all that good stuff. But with OG coming back, and the debate about old battle passes returning, we’re seeing the dark side of the og community again. I’m not saying every OG is like this, heck I’m a season 3 OG and speaking out against this, but most of them are and the majority I’ve encountered across numerous comments sections act like this. OG Fortnite was a great game, not for the nostalgia, but because it was actually fun and original and interesting, and the OGs killed that. Now they want it back, and I’m sure that as soon as they get OG back we’re going to hear more complaints about how bad and boring the game was.

Hugely agree with just about everything said in this video, especially regarding both OG and Reload being permanent game modes. It won't eat into BR players but I feel like having both OG and Reload is extremely redundant. I don't think OG even needed to be its own game mode honestly, I think Reload does a perfect job at being a unique spin on OG, so that players who want a more familiar experience can play that. Granted, the game flow of OG and Reload are vastly different but Fortnite is a game constantly evolving and changing. I'll be honest and say Chapter 1 didn't really get interesting until about 4 seasons in, so I get the feeling people are going to go back into OG for a bit, say it's the best thing ever and quuiiiickly find themselves bored.

Great video man. You have a good point, but i think one reason people may be nostalgic of seasons they didn’t necessarily like is because people miss the times when these seasons were on. For example chapter 2 might’ve not been the most exciting Fortnite could be but for me personally the Covid era staying at home and playing with friends as well as things from that period of time that I’m grateful for made me feel nostalgic for like any thing I slightly enjoyed, which makes me feel nostalgic and miss chapter 2. Agreed 100%!! I'm really tired of these type of fans. I loved Chapter 4 and had an amazing time playing it! It was personally my favorite. But some of my friends as well as other people online kept saying "This season is awful" or "Fortnite is dead" and of course "OG Fortnite was so much better." I remember I got made fun of because I was enjoying Chapter 4 so much. But like you said in the video, now all of a sudden these same people are backpedaling and saying that they now miss Chapter 4 and acting like they never badmouthed the Chapter to begin with. The same goes for the other Chapters as well. It's a real headache to listen to. I have no problem if you prefer any Chapter over another. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I do have a problem if you're gonna talk smack to me for enjoying a Chapter, only to flip flop your opinion a year later and pretend like you never smack talked me in the first place. I think to me what made old Fortnite special was a mix of how different the battle royale games at the time played and Fortnite’s unique approach in terms of style and update strategy. I’ll be honest, I was a day one player and I saw Fortnite as a cheap ripoff of PUBG which as a PlayStation player me and my friends all really wanted. We all logged on because it was a free battle royale game on console and at the time there weren’t that many. But within playing a few matches we were sold. The intensity that came with no respawns and the potential for a match to take extremely long to finish made every moment exhilarating. You were constantly scanning the valleys for anything moving. The quiet soundscape of the game made it eerie to stand still in one place so towards the end players would have all their materials stocked up and try to estimate where the storm would end and build a big metal fort. The title of the game told us this is how you should play at the time. By the end two or three squads who were the survivors of the 100 to drop had the best loot in the game and had to duke it out both feeling like they came so far and were so scared to lose it all now. Each match felt like a journey in that way where the new game is too fast paced for this buildup of tension to form. Plus since the game was new there was nothing known about it yet, so me and my friends naturally all wondered if you got a reward for winning. Then we saw a guy with an umbrella drop near us and we found out you got one for winning a match which made us want to win so much more. Fortnite kept this feeling for me as late as until season X. By then the vibe was off and the map was too cluttered with all this leftover stuff from previous seasons that nothing felt like it had a solid theme to it anymore, so I appreciated the chapter 2 refresh putting us on a new map with simple POIs to explore. Although I could tell something was different because I stopped caring about winning at this point. We were playing for the moment to moment gameplay now which was still fun but a different kind of fun. But as time went on chapters became shorter, and so did the matches. The game despite getting more unique content added faster than ever somehow felt less fresh, more overwhelming if anything. The average player could run circles around me and soon I found I couldn’t enjoy the game unless all my friends were on with me and we were purposefully doing something stupid for the sake of fun. The game didn’t feel like it needed to be a battle royale anymore, it felt more like you were just playing to get as many kills as possible and if you die just cue up and go again. I didn’t really see the point anymore. Thats why I believe there really was something special about OG. Matches had weight to them. I cared about winning and feared losing. Every update slowly eroded that feeling and I’d say once we got to the mid point of chapter 2 is when Fortnite, at least to me, had became a different game entirely. Other BR games didn’t work as substitutes either. What they had in intensity that lacked in character. None were so fun to pick up and play and as easy to understand as good ol’ Fortnite.

You gotta look at it from outside the box. Far more people loved Chapter 1 than hated on it, that was a vocal minority. Second outlook: People that did dislike Chapter 1 who have swapped opinions now are far more skilled than they were then. Back then the weapons, vehicles, mechs etc were extremely deadly. It was more of a spam fest because we didn't yet have the collective skill to counter. It will most definitely be different this go around because we can appropriately counter all the broken shit. Chapter 2 was my favorite chapter of all time. I loved every season as they came out and I would say roughly 40% of my time playing FN was in C2. But Remix didn’t need to happen and it honestly felt the way you described at the end. It was just “here is more of the same from years ago” and there wasn’t anything significant about it. Fortnite exists to evolve and catering to the side of the fanbase that’s afraid of change and innovation will kill the game off.

chapter 2 was a huge dissappintment... season 1 lasted so long wothlut any for of changes... completely lost me there... and maybe except chapter 4 everything else was just bad. i never really used the planes but i really liked the zombies, they dropped so much ammo and shield and the big gold ones dropped legendary scars like bro that was op and i loved dropping volvano and aztec... combat shotgun sas my facorite shotgun when it came out by far, i was on controller and was a fast builder bjt couldnt aim for sh*t so having the faster fire rate was a gamechanger for me. OG was never nostalgic for me, for me it was simoly just better. i liked having the sword in the game. i loved using itand if someone pushed me with it i just used some sort of lmg ln them. easy win. same with thanos

I joined in ch3s3 and have played 50+ hours in every season since and I really find this whole situation humorous. I grew up playing Pokemon in the 2000s and towards the tail end of that decade we saw the emergence of a particular sort of fan who really only loved the first two gens ONLY, and actively seemed to despise the modern games (newer fans might be surprised to find this was happening even back then). These kind of fans were eventually called "Genwunners" by other fans because of their constant whining about the new games in comparison to earlier gens, specifically gen 1 hence "Genwunner". You get the impression that these people played the game when they were very young and the franchise left them behind. A similar thing is happening here where players played the earlier seasons at a younger age and thus have more lenient opinions on the content of the seasons. Eventually the developers of the pokemon games began pandering to these people in the same way we are seeing Epic do now with Chapter 1 diehards (a group distinct from normal fans mind you). The 2010s was partially defined by this pandering as it infected every form of Pokemon media throughout the decade. The key is this though, the devs never stopped making new things and over time this pandering has become less and less, and seems to be on the way out entirely. People will get their fill of OG in time. The best thing to do is just ignore the more fanatical fans who can't see past their own bias.

This video completely disregards the possibility that Fortnite has just gotten worse with each new chapter. People look back fondly on chapters and seasons that they used to hate, because... they were bad for the time. Compare them to now, C2 S6 and Season X don't seem so bad. Also the 'enlightened' people who claim to not let nostalgia affect their perception of the past are delusional, because you can't control that. If anything, their belief that they see those seasons at face value would inherently be affected by nostalgia, and as a result, may over correct their opinion on a past chapter. The only way I'll look back on chapter 5 fondly is if Epic make future chapters worse.

You forget there is a possibility that people may realize they didn't understand seasons before and gain new found appreciation for said chapter. Vincent van Gogh a famous painter of mordern day was unappreciated at his time, some people even calling his work bad, but fast forward decades and now he is one of the most famous artist to ever live with his work being praised. And it's not that art for worse we just gained new understanding

I hope that for the OG mode, they really really go hard with it. Like get rid of sprinting and mantling and just double down on it when players inevitably start complaining. I liked chapter OG but I really feel like most of these people are too afraid of change or just blinded by nostalgia. I miss chapter 3 but only cause I have some of my best memories on that map. If it came back I’d be excited but not as excited as whatever new thing they add. Like. To all OG players, how are you gonna see a fully Japanese themed island with super fun looking movement and mechanics and say you’re more hyped for chapter one season one? I like new things so much more and I play with new people now so it wouldn’t feel fun for me to go back🤷‍♂️

I do agree with you that people in the Fortnite community takes things for granted. Personally, I still do like chapter 1 season 4-8. Just felt like they had more creatively ideas when it came down originally. Season 9 is mid, and season X is still trash. I have no idea why people are trying to say that “X wasn’t that bad”. I’ve always loved chapter 1 and 3 and always had mixed opinions about chapter 2. I don’t think it’s as much about peoples opinions changing as different people being vocal online. Lots of people from chapter 1 don’t play anymore sadly and therefore don’t talk about the game.

I can’t say too much since I started playing relatively late-Chapter 2, Season 7-but as a casual player, I’ve enjoyed almost everything Epic has added to the game so far. People always find something to complain about, but once it’s gone, they suddenly change their minds. A perfect example is Chapter 4. For a while, it was completely irrelevant in discussions about the best or worst chapters, often overlooked entirely. Now, all of a sudden, people are reminiscing about how beautiful the map was and how great the graphics were. That brings me to my other point, graphics. Lately, people have been complaining about Fortnite’s shift to more realistic visuals, which, to me, sounds ridiculous and completely stupid. Why would a game nearly eight years old stick to outdated graphics when technology has advanced so much? My conclusion is that people often take things for granted, find reasons to complain, and then look back with nostalgia as if those were the best times. The argument of forgettable poi’s is ass because places like retail row or pleasant park were in the game for like 4 fucking years, maybe longer of course you’d remember that And let’s be honest, a good chunk of players who hate on new things hate on it because it isn’t chapter 1

Don't worry I'll forever hate Chapter 5, Chapter 4 and 3 were bad but I really enjoyed them both, started on Vibin with a Friend bc of Zero Build and really enjoyed my time at the start, but looking at it now I can't say it was a good time anymore. I miss Chapter 4 because Chapter 5 was worst, but I still remember rage quitting fighting against the Twin Mag Assault Rifle on Last Resort, got really annoying really fast but it still was a good season with its additions and changes. Several points: you claim to be more hyped for something new than something old. OK, well Chapter 1 is new to me, I didn't play until Zero Build was a thing. Also, Wrecked was the worst season I have ever experienced. Remix was terrible, but I told myself "At least it ain't Wrecked". Chapter 5 was just terrible. I thought it was terrible on day 2, I only began to enjoy it during fortnitemares. I am the guy who said "wilds wasn't that bad of a season", while it was happening, and I stand by that, I swear, a year from now, even if chapter 6 is the worst season ever, I am not going to say chapter 5 was good. It had a few moments, like season 2 up until the Avatar collab, and fortnitemares. It had moments, it had certain aspects that were good. Even wrecked had the metallica collab, the guitar mobility, my favorite battle pass of all time. There were aspects of chapter 5 that were good, but the chapter as a whole was terrible, and I never felt that way about chapter 3, or 4, not then and not now. Reload is awesome, chapter 6 seems cool so far. Sir, I am telling you, I don't think I am ever going to look back on chapter 5 with nostalgia.

They never consider that Fortnite is an entirely different game now. Older players want a more classic gameplay and artstyle and there is nothing wrong with that. I played so much during og season. Remix was not that great but infinitely more playable than chapter 5. The game has become so watered down with collabs and a generic artstyle. Chapter 6 fixed this for the most part but there shouldn’t be this much hate towards people who just want a classic Fortnite experience. When nostalgia wore off from og season I still wanted to play og season cus that was the Fortnite I fell in love with.

Some people are always gonna be hating, I don’t see why that means we can’t enjoy Fortnite chapter 1 now though. I like the actual Fortnite artstyle in that season along with less gimmicky items so you can just focus on fighting people using builds and guns. Ofcourse there’s some sort of nostalgia that makes me like it too, but I don’t see much wrong with that either. It’s no different from playing super mario 64 instead of super mario odyssey.
