The PROBLEM with My Imported Shelby GT500!

There's one problem to figure out with my Shelby GT500 that was imported from the US! However, thanks to GT101, we are up and running. Let's head out for the annual service and a dive into the 05 Ford GT with Dave who knows them inside out.
I bought the Shelby GT500 already 2.5 years ago, and during that time drove it on multiple big US tours before importing it over to the United Kingdom late last year. It's since been on a run over to the Nurburgring in Germany, but given it has now been a year since the last service, I needed to figure out a plan for the ongoing maintenance over here. Safe to say, a regular Ford dealer isn't set up per say to work on a US-spec GT500, as we don't have them on sale to begin with.
Having met Dave from GT101 before, who was part of the team responsible for importing the 101 2005 Ford GTs nearly 20 years ago, he's now well equipped for handling cars of this nature and hence a direct visit for me to book this in and get it through the motions. I make no secret that I'm a big fan of the older gen GT, so it's a great opportunity to learn from Dave, find out more about them all, and ultimately get my car through an annual service checkover.

I bought my car 15 years ago. My daughter was only two, my son was born a year later so it spent the first 4 years with us with ISOFIX seats in the back. As far as my kids are concerned, it has always been a part of our lives and part of our family. We all go on holidays in it and every year I go on driving tours around Europe (or Wales, Cornwall and the NC500 during the Covid years) with my friends and their "serious" metal. Their serious metal means that I carry all of their pants around Europe and the wetter parts of Scotland. I dont drive fast on public roads but I do track it with Gold Track just to let it breathe. It has done Santapod twice which is why Dave had to put a Mini Spec replacement clutch in it. I blew out lots of wire wool from the exhaust at Silverstone and the cat had a fit, so Dave again came to the rescue again and specced a system that makes it sound like a NASCAR. I boiled the brake fluid getting carried away in the two ton bus around SPA, so dropped it back to Dave to make sure that it would still stop with the kids in it. Dave Jones has looked after this car since before he ran his own firm even though he specialises in cars that are worth ten times mine. He has refused to service it twice because " I hadnt done enough miles" and point blankly refuses to "Gary it up" when I make daft suggestions. He likes fast and certainly loud, but there is respect for the car there. You know it is good hands, and so it should be as it is part of our family. It is the big red one on the lift above the blue GT in your film. Dave is figuring out how he can tastefully fit a tow eye on the front (he likes a Porsche one) before we do Anglesea this summer. Thanks Tim, that film made our day and GT101 deserves all the credit you can give it.

I’ve owned five Mustangs here in the USA and I currently own a GT 500 and GT 350R and I can tell you as long as you change the oil there’s not a lot you need to do even if you do a complete flush of coolant etc check breaks and rotors since you track and that’s about it. Happy 500!!

GT101 is in the town that I live in, they had an open day the other day and there was loads of mustangs and ford GT's and even had a few McLarens and other cars such a great company and very knowledgeable

Tim, as a mechanic here in Canada...I'd be surprised if one of your good Ford dealerships there in the UK didn't have things like the oil filter and oil on the shelf for your Mustang. The engine in that thing uses a fairly common oil filter used in several Ford vehicles for many years and the oil isn't anything special to write home about. Just a tip is all.

Make sure you keep the air filter. These are washable! I have the same one on my Mustang GT. I have 2 filters. Before a track day, I put the cleaned one onto the car

I'm pretty sure plugs are replaced every 100,000 miles (if even needed), so he probably doesn't need a stock of them. I'd also assume they're the same plugs as a Mustang GT uses so they're readily available.

I worked on Top Gear when Jeremy finally took delivery of his GT. Sadly, the immobiliser drained the battery and we had to wheel it in the studio. He wasn’t best please, weirdly though, May and Hammond found the whole thing rather hilarious..😂😂.
