The Problem with Proof-Texting - A Misreading of Scripture

Excerpted from the late Winn Griffin's book - "God's Epic Adventure" - this reading is a funny but all-too-real illustration of what happens when we mis-read the Bible, taking verses from here and there, and putting them together to create an entirely new narrative and context that is not natural to the way the Bible is written in order to support theological systems that claim to be "Biblical" because they are heavy-laden with Bible verses.

This is great! 🤣 And honestly, it's what I feel like when I encounter Protestants who want to have Bible passage throw down sessions about Catholic teaching. For my fellow Catholics who want to improve their Scripture reading skills: whenever someone gives you a passage, take a moment to read the whole chapter. It doesn't usually take long and alas, many Protestant arguments don't stand up to that rigorous level of research. 🙃

@@wolfthequarrelsome504 - Thanks to poor life choices, I am usually willing to take the sola scriptura battle into their camp online at least. I have discovered that minus the missing books, "read the whole chapter" works pretty well in their versions too. But totally yes, Catholics should read Catholic Bibles. I have more than one at this point. 🙂

I know! I wish a Christian church existed which interpreted God's word according to Scripture, some sacred tradition and a sort of theological and moral court guided by the Holy Spirit, just like OT Jews had Written and Oral Law and a High Court...

In which, this title and all of the Garb of that day were given to the Bishop-hood in Rome, the Roman Catholic Pope follows after this order until today. The very beginning of the Roman Catholic Church was born out of Paganism by a pagan worshipper, the Rome Emperor. From The Babylonian Pagan Priests, and religions. All of the different world religions (from Nimrod all the way through to that day) were moved to one place in Rome, under the bridge of the Pontifex Maximus. To you in love, from a former Catholic. After reams and reams and RREEEEEEEAAAMS of historical and Bible research (and the Catechism). So I could defend why I was a Roman Catholic (and everyone else should be too). found out, I had no foundation for which to claim I was standing on anything close to Christ and his word. I found the difference between the Roman Catholic Church and the Universal (Catholic) Church founded on Christ (the foundational bolder). Paul; no one who builds on Christ the foundation’s bolder can build on anyone else’s foundation. It was a really big humble pie I had to eat. GULP!!! The Bible taught me why I should believe in The living God, the Bible’s fulfilled prophecies convinced me God is real and his word is true. God is never changing, the Roman Catholic Church is ever-changing. Written in love.

@@TrixRN 😂😂😂 well… the present one kind of looks like one. No, just studied history. Have you ever wondered how the world will be ruled by the Roman Empire in the end of days? Research who, what and where the pontifex Maximus derived from. And also how this character was used to bridge all of the Religions of the the world to create the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) in the 300AD’s, by the Rome Emperor. God didn’t creat the RCC Rome did, it’s not a religion of one God but of all gods. Pontifex Maximus: Bridge; the Emperor, carried this title and picked a man to wear this title as bishop of Rome (RCC) to merge all of the people and religions, with a people and religion that had recently been killing them, because the emperor was struggling to accomplish this. So does God mingle with other gods and idle worship? Why do you think an extra book (Catechism) had to be written to elevate RCC traditions equal to God’s word, after the RCC realized they couldn’t keep the Bible out of peoples hands, and keep people from reading it. I just want people to know that they can be assured of their salvation in Jesus-Christ, and don’t have to wonder. Jesus calls you a Saint from the moment you repent and ask Him to be your savior. And that if you read the Bible to see how to be saved, and are saved God will seal you to himself and your entry into heaven is assured. There is no do-over… purgatory, it’s Heaven or Hell when you die. Also the tails of Rome itself are still very evident around the world today, not just the RCC alone.
