This is a sermon I gave recently at church where I explored the big questions of philosophy and then presented the various answers available to us. I also have to give a shout-out to Tim Keller here because he essentially preached this same sermon years ago and I remember listening to it then and being so affected by it.
Love you, Tim! Can't wait to talk someday!

God bless you, I’ve been a massive skeptic my entire life and your intelligence, integrity and faith has flipped my world view completely. I’m 27 and I was raised Christian but never truly believed and thought I was better than religion due to my schooling and friends. But you have deconstructed all my views and showed them for the falsehoods they are. I now have a renewed faith that you sparked inside me Once again God bless

Design in Nature: How the Constructal Law Governs Evolution in Physics, Biology, Technology, and Social Organization (Doubleday 2012), by Adrian Bejan and J Peder Zane, can take your world view even higher. No lie! What is "constructal law"? It is THE answer to the question, why are things as they are? It came to Prof Bejan in a flash, at the peak of his career in thermodynamics designing better power plants, air conditioners, and CPU heat sinks!

Whoa, you’re on a stage now! Thank you for sharing this, I always like to hear people’s perspectives from their own experiences. When you get into the big “Why?” of life, it reminded me of a question I sought to answer a long time ago, which was “Who would I be if I lost everything I valued?” Your historical approach to the big question is honestly refreshing, I think too little people put too little value in great minds and what they’ve concluded on their life journey.

As a child and teenager I had such a misunderstanding for the deep yearning I had for Jesus, that I tried taking my own life several times. I was raised an atheist, but my intuition told me there was something so much deeper to life. I couldn’t obtain this yearning so I wanted to no longer be human. I didn’t find Jesus until I was 30, but I am so grateful. I am beyond grateful. I believe God has placed on my heart the conviction to help other non-believing youth to find God. Suicide and depression cannot be lifted without Him. I am grateful to have found your page, brother.

Man, the first part of your sermon about the nihilistic reality of a life with no God is so dead accurate, and as much as I've tried to explain this to atheists I talk to on reddit, it just cannot, cannot sink in, and I don't know why. I figured it's hard to recognize you need that living water, that eternal significance we have in Christ, unless you can even recognize you're thirsty in the first place, but they can't hear it. It would be nice if we could take just a piece of the sweet satisfaction and fullness we have in the Lord and offer free samples of that understanding and feeling. There wouldn't be an existentialist or absurdist "answer" anymore, because they would understand Christ was always the piece that belonged in that place in their heart, and they would mourn all the days that went before they knew Him.

@tgenov
@tgenov 7 ай бұрын
It will never sink in. Atheism has blind commitment to empiricism and direct experience, not reason. An atheist has to hit rock bottom and experience the logical consequence of their beliefs themselves, before they will hear reason. This is why they will never understand the point. They are justfiying their commitment to walking the path. They want to hear nothing of where that path leads.

"Man, the first part of your sermon about the nihilistic reality of a life with no God is so dead accurate" He said: "If you want total freedom you get total meaninglessness. " Which is nonsense, life IS ab initio meningless, if your little ego accepts that or not. The universe does not care. Deal with it. “There is something infantile in the presumption that somebody else has a responsibility to give your life meaning and point… The truly adult view, by contrast, is that our life is as meaningful, as full and as wonderful as we choose to make it.” - Richard Dawkins Further he said: "without God there is no morality" It is simply insulting to claim that one would not know right from wrong without the gullibility needed to believe in claims of atavistic mythology. He sais that as if both things in it, God and morals are real. Moral exist, they existed long befors his God was invented, they cange over time, sure but they exist and they exist for good, explainanble reasons for us as a sozial species as well as for other animals in comparable situations. Claiming that we need some character from ancient atavistic mythology for that, is an attac on our depest integrety as a species.
@tgenov
@tgenov 7 ай бұрын
@@derhafi You are contradicting yourself. If everything is meaningless then "right" and "wrong" are meaningless too. If "right" and "wrong" are meaningless distinctions then morality doesn't exist. Morality is meaningless. If the universe doesn't care, then why do you care about right and wrong? Why do you care about morality? You are literally demonstrating that the video is 100% spot on. It's hilarious. You are the rebel who undermines his own mines.

I think there is a kind of truth in the idea that the supreme good is freedom. That to do good is to respect the freedom and wishes of others and secure your own freedom. There is something to that. The problem with it is that people’s wishes often conflict, not only with each other’s wishes but often with thier own interest so that freedom is sometimes (often) a great detriment. However, the truth we sense in the good of freedom derived from the fact that the purpose and good of a living creature is usually revealed through its natural tendencies. What you would do if not interfered with is usually good. The problem with humans is that first of all our sins have corrupted us and second demons are constantly whispering if not screaming in our ears. If it weren’t for these things, freedom would be a great benefit to mankind, and in many ways it still is. But not unmitigated freedom.

That being said, I am not ordained and have not felt specifically called to become a full time pastor. Hope that helps!

The purpose of life is to 'love and to be loved'. I believe that's a G Bernard Shaw quote. But I'd also add that modern angst over 'meaning' was essentially unknown to the 'uncivilized' peoples that have been wiped out. The Native Americans thought of themselves as caretakers of the earth. Hence their lives had meaning, and they knew it. All the English who lived with the natives never wanted to return, having experienced life outside of 'civilization'. Hence the harsh punishments for anyone who 'deserted' the colonial settlements. Bottom line, it really has to do with our consumerist and destructive way of life that engenders this sense of meaninglessness.

You are obviously not opposed and against the lies and false teachings of Religions but opposed and against the Creator's Sovereignty and his Christ's authority and teachings... that is your free will and freedom.... just face the TRUTH about yourself.... about who you are... about who the Atheists and fanatics of Religions are... What is the Creator's favor and reward for imperfect, suffering, and dying human beings? ANSWER - The Creator WANTS all human beings to honor and obey Jesus Christ as his Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth and believe his teachings about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" so they can bring upon themselves his favor and reward of ETERNAL LIFE and existence on earth without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death. What is the worth, value, and importance of the lives and existence of the Creator and Jesus Christ to all Atheists, Christians, and fanatics of all kinds of Religions? ANSWER - Nothing, all Atheists, Jehovah's Witnesses, SDAs, Mormons, Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Born Again Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and fanatics of all kinds of Religions in the world KNOW and are fully aware that they are all united in filling the world with their own teachings and claims that - 1. the Creator is worthless, useless, and undeserving to be honored and respected as the True and Sovereign God 2. How will worshippers of the Creator and followers of Jesus Christ live and exist on earth forever if they just die and become worthless and useless dusts on earth? ANSWER - The Creator KNOWS that all Atheists and fanatics of all Christian and non-Christian Religions in the world who are filling the world with their lies and false teachings and doctrines about "Armageddon", "Trinity", "heaven and hellfire", "rapture", and "reincarnation" will never be glorified in their make-believe and fairy tale Heaven nor tortured for eternity in their invented and fictitious Hell but just become worthless and useless dusts on earth forever after their inescapable deaths while all his worshippers who died recently and even thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Naomi, Ruth, King David, his Christ's disciples and followers, and many others will not remain as worthless and useless dusts on earth forever, instead in the right and proper time, he will let Jesus Christ RESURRECT them back to life so they can all happily and abundantly live and exist forever on a safe and peaceful earth as submissive and obedient subjects of the "KINGDOM of GOD" or His Kingdom and fully enjoy his and his Christ's eternal love, kindness, goodness, compassions, generosities, favors, and blessings for eternity under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of Jesus Christ as his Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth.

Rom 1:18 For [God does not overlook sin and] the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who in their wickedness suppress and stifle the truth, because that which is known about God is evident within them [in their inner consciousness], for God made it evident to them. For ever since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through His workmanship [all His creation, the wonderful things that He has made], so that they [who fail to believe and trust in Him] are without excuse and without defense. For even though they knew God [as the Creator], they did not honor Him as God or give thanks [for His wondrous creation]. On the contrary, they became worthless in their thinking [godless, with pointless reasonings, and silly speculations], and their foolish heart was darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory and majesty and excellence of the immortal God for an image [worthless idols] in the shape of mortal man and birds and four-footed animals and reptiles.

“What is it all really for?” That question assumes there is some “purpose” other than “to live”. For Nature to express itself on a continuing basis. There is No other purpose. A person can assume some higher purpose as a result of some supernatural cause that that’s an empty assumption because no higher cause can be empirically demonstrated. The only Truths in the world are those that can be supported by objective and empirical evidence. Anything else is relegated to the realm of mere opinion, uninformed opinion. The creativity of the human mind can be its own downfall and one consequence is swearing by the mystical and supernatural when there is nothing to substantiate or legitimate any such belief(s). For those sufficiently naive about reality you might want to prove to yourself the “truth” of real world cause and effect phenomena by renting a small aircraft, fly it to 20,000 ft and jump out of it without any parachute or any other assistance and see what happens. The consequences are “real” not imagined which is all god is… imaginary. A jump without a parachute. Have a nice day.

God maybe is a single mind, but he is all powerful, all knowing, that's why he simply "is" in the bible. Or let me ask a simple question: Did you create your own mind and body? Did you chose where to approach in the universe? No? Then be a little more humble and try to listen to someone who did.

@@wurzelbert84wucher5 "Life is created by God and God alone". That may be true but it also maybe false. How do we know which it is other than just a claim. Why is He all powerful. Until the 13th century god was not a he. There was no pronoun associated with God. Acknowledging that I did not create my own mind or body does not in anyway demonstrate therefore there was a God.

50:34 why does an all powerful god need Humans to change the world? And this should be their life’s purpose? Why aren’t we just born into heaven? Then the world wouldn’t need to exist.

Question: what is the meaning of life? Answer: there's no meaning to life, it's what you make of it. Great answer to a great question. You Christians turn it into a stupid answer.

For those destined for destruction, you are correct. But for those God has chosen you are incorrect.

I am going to answer your question "What is the reason for life, what is the reason for living?" The most accurate answer is: Nothing, none ziltch. And before you say anything about that, your life has no more meaning than any atheist because you believe in mans "god" invention. Beyond that answer you need to delve into ego. If you have a huge ego you may ask that question, if you don't you won't because it has absolutely no relevance to anything in the real world. The reason for life is a Big Bang, abiogenesis and evolution. What is the reason for living? Because you are alive and through evolution you have a built in mechanism for self preservation. Does the existence of a god or not have any relevance to it? None whatsoever. The things man invents to answer questions he can't answer or is too lazy to answer, gods, offer no reasons for anything beyond the invention.

You have wrong propositions. Only if you knew someone has intention that you would know the reason. If there is no one causes intention it is wrong logic to jump into assuming reasons. Until now there is no evidence of a powerful and merciful God who might have created the world how could you propose some reasons? Without the first requirement it is foolish thing to assume the outcome. What is the reason for the COVID? What is the reason of earthquake that killed almost half million in Haiti? Do not assume reasons just leave it unanswered to assume is foolishness.

I don't like adds so I pay the 12.99 a month to avoid them. Small price to pay for advertisement avoidance. Your comment makes me happy I've taken this route.
