Sooo good! A must watch for all the KZbinrs. One additional point is that using slow-motion becomes a crutch and slows down your progression as a filmmaker. A boring shot in slow motion can look nice but that same shot in 24fps will look boring. Really nice to see you bring attention to this!

Great video. Just to add. In situations where someone may be hyper aroused / acutely stressed, time perception is thought to somewhat slow down in the brain. So for acute moments, slow motion actually may reflect the way someone would experience that moment.

This perfectly relates to KZbins obsession with ‘cinematic’ footage. I’ve definitely contributed to this problem, but so often slow motion and ‘cinematic’ are synonymous, but as you revealed, a fully slow mo film is completely unappealing and removes a lot of story

Great tips as always. You're right about weddings and commercial shoots and all these videos not really telling a story. What I think is difficult in short movies and documentaries is also how and when to get out of slo mo. The swap back to real speed can take out of the story if done badly.

As a Veteran (An Infantry Veteran) - Tropic Thunder is a classic. As for slow motion, I like placing emphasis during a transition or a a shot right after cut. Depending on the scene, I like to also start off with slow motion, then go right back to normal speed. As for the storytelling process... I have only been able to use slow motion once in all of my KZbin videos! Because that was the only time it truly added to the story rather than just being a really cool shot.
