It’s a shame because this trilogy started off so strong and and fell flat on its face, recently I watched the original Halloween 2 and despite some flaws It’s a solid sequel

Because I don't think it was ever meant to be a trilogy. Originally the writers said they thought about making two movies, a part 1 and a part 2, but they seemed content about reducing it to just one, also soft-confirming 2018 was all they had in the bag. Then the movie comes out, it's a huge success, and they offered the opportunity to make a trilogy, banking off an already successful reboot/ sequel. But since they already condensed so much of what they wanted to do in 2018, it seems they had no other ideas to work with. Because kills and ends feels so incidental and insignificant and random. Like they just strung together a plot overnight.

Halloween truly feels doomed to always repeat the same cycle: it has one hit sequel (H4,H20) only to be followed up with garbage sequels (H5,H6,Resurrection) after it makes a ton of money. Admittedly I don’t think Kills or Ends were nearly as bad as the other bad sequels but I wish 2018 had just been a stand-alone.

@@mtb5431 I agree, 4 and H20 are alright sequels. The issue with Halloween franchise is that it totally got away with what made 1 so great. One trait of Halloween 1 was to have less kills and violence and more suspense with the killer. It seems like Halloween franchise went in opposite direction and became Friday the 13th.

Fun Fact: There isn't CGI for Loomis in Halloween Kills. It's actually all practical. They noticed that set construction coordinator Tom Jones Jr. looked an awful lot like Loomis and had a makeup artist work on him to nail the look. Then Colin Mahan did the voice.
@Crinbo

I don’t think I buy that it’s all practical in the final product. It does look good, especially far away, but there’s still a weird digital smoothness to the closeup shot. I’d be shocked if there weren’t some slight CGI corrections to the prosthetic. If it IS 100% practical, then props to DGG for making a completely practical effect look like CGI. That’s gotta be worth something.

Michael Myers in 78 played with his victims. He wasn’t gruesome or bloody. He was psychological, physical, and terrifying. He played cat and mouse. He taunted Annie- the flower pot, laundry room, car. He kept inserting himself into Laurie’s day once she stepped on his porch. But purposely kept himself hidden from her until there were no others left. The new movies were just bloody, brutal, and lost.
@EverythingandNothingTV

Based asf take. I do feel like Michael lost his intelligence in favor of brutality. But he does kill a lot of people in some pretty smart and fucked how ways in the new one. But I agree the reason why the first one worked so well was because of how psychologically fucked he was when killing. The lack of gore was due to budget constraints but like the original Jaws (Shark animatronic did not work) it left more to the viewers imagination making it so much scarier. So long grammar mistake filled rant short I completely agree with that.

I watched Halloween 6 and then kills. Any tension gave way to brutal and preposterous kills that took you out of it quite fast. The fear on the og came from him playing with his prey like smashing the pot to scare Annie. Also the scary thing in the first Halloween was that Annie and Linda etc were likeable. You knew he was out there and your mind scared you as your imagination runs away. Kills was daft, everyone who liked it just commented about how 'brutal' Michael is. It's like a parody of itself. The best way to reboot it may be to set it in the 80s and have documentary makers on his tale interviewing people that think they've seen him or who have had their lives ruined by him. Keep him in the background to the final act! Make the kills and Michael's abilities more understated, instead replacing it with dramatic tension, make Michael a weird creepy guy again. Don't get me started on him stood alone in a sewer for 4 years either. I always thought of him going to ground and doing what Bundy did, living in holiday homes or even taking over someone's home like deranged cuckoo, just very sinister.

Or alternatively you could have something about detectives trying to find him, how would they investigate him? The sheriffs seemed unable to deal with him as they were just geared up to deal with naughty teenagers acting out. What was the manhunt like after, what was effect on the town? Ends was a wasted opportunity and it went into a silly direction. They should stay away from his origins. He is scariest when the professionals can't explain his evil and they are totally unprepared like the space truckers from Alien

@erauprcwa
@erauprcwa Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I also think, if done right. They could've kept 1978, 1981, H20, and 2018 all in line with each other. Take the paramedic story from 'Resurrection', which would be the reason why Laurie becomes what she does in 2018. Replace Karen with John, but keep Allison, has his daughter. Give a backstory of Allison being John and Molly's (Michelle Williams) daughter, but due to the trauma of H20 and the paramedic, she couldn't get over said trauma and committed suicide. This could've been a great reason why John and Laurie become estranged. John blames Laurie for Molly's death. (LOL I tried my best to rewrite ENDS in my mind because it was so bad)

Hell f'n no.. Perfect duology is the original and it's original sequel Halloween II. It's official now that even the Thorn Trilogy was better than the new trilogy which cost over 100 million more dollar's to make and these new movies made way more money in the age of social media Michael Myers became the Santa Claus of Halloween. 2018 isn't the flawless classic people claim it is. It has some Halloween 5ish cringe and humor in there too.. Donald Pleasence presence alone in the old movies gave it a vibe these new films were missing. And they took the family plot away which was the best way to go after the original. For decades Michael was known to go after his family and anybody in his way then it became all about Jamie Lee Curtis. There's A LOT of new fans and the franchise is more popular than ever and most of these new fans find 2018 to be a classic, and Halloween 3 and the first one to be the only 5 star movie's while Kills and H20 are close.. They don't know who Danielle Harris or Jamie Loyd is lol. I feel bad for Halloween II even getting buried now days because of how overrated 2018 is.

Thankfully Halloween 2 is getting the most merchandise out of any of the movies. For some reason the rights to anything connected to 1978 is a nightmare to get ahold of, and Chris Nelson refuses to have the flashback mask in Kills reproduced (which is the closest we'll get to see the '78 mask in its pristine state.) So instead Halloween 2 gets the merch. And it's awesome for anyone who loves that sequel. XD

I think Kills and Ends should have been flipped. Kills would be Michael-less with Corey seeming to be the new evil as it would seem Michael is dead and evil needs a vessel, but then Michael shows up and starts all over again. Ends would be the town going crazy and eventually killing Michael.

I mentioned this that would have made way more sense. Essentially, Halloween Kills was always a filler to what was supposed to be the epic conclusion in Halloween Ends. Had they introduced Corey in the other two films and saw his character eventually become this may have helped a tad. Personally, I don't believe in any universe I would have liked what we got with Halloween Ends, but at the bare minimum I could have accepted it had it they flipped the movies or waited to do the Corey storyline in a completely new franchise/trilogy.

@@905productions I loved “Halloween Kills” and I rewatched Ends and it’s decent,but it’s not even close to the other two. However I saw 2018 in theaters as well and thought it was decent. I thought Halloween Kills was just a better film,and I could watch it anyday,before I gave H2018 a chance. Cringy humor was in H2018 including this crazy doctor subplot to guide Myers to Laurie’s house. Then Allison’s Dad dies with no one even caring! Let’s not forget the sandwich scene with the cops. Granted H2018 certainly had a lot of good to it,but HKILLS not only raised the stakes,but showed emotion for characters who died. Allison’s boyfriend for example is not a blank slate in HKILLS and it’s also cool that this is Lonney’s son. Michael is very scary in HKILLS as well ,and I also like the fact an angry mob are hunting him down to kill him. Needless to say I love the movie a lot! H:ENDS should have been on the same night as the other two! In the extended cut of HKILLS Laurie gets a phone call of screams from her daughter after dying! Laurie picks up the same knife and goes out to hunt Michael down and then it cuts to black and white showing a still image of the knife again. This is what H:ENDS should have been!

I feel like H20 did the whole "traumatized Laurie" thing in a much more believable and realistic way. She's traumatized and it obviously affects her ability to fully live her life, but she was still able to have SOME semblance of a life outside of thinking out Michael literally 24/7. She rationally knew that there was PROBABLY nothing to worry about but couldn't let go of the POSSIBILITY that the danger could always come back without warning, which I'll be damned if that's not the most realistic portrayal of PTSD this series (or really any major slasher horror series I can think of) has shown.

What I hated ultimately with the new trilogy was that Michael began perfectly like he was back in 1978, but then Halloween Kills turns him into this supernatural tank like Jason. And the fandom just *rolled with it* like they didn’t already see this version of Michael with Zombies hubris films. “Michael is his most brutal. Most angry. Most desperate.” He was a hobo eating dogs and hacking nurses over 6 times in a row, stomping faces in, and plowing through cops back in 2009. This wasn’t a new concept. THEN Halloween Ends fails to define all these new supernatural elements by making Michael go from a simple shape, to a Jason Voorhees, to a “weak” old man (despite him being able to lift a fully grown woman with one hand). In hindsight, I rather they stopped at 2018 and showed us him burning alive back to ash.

Agree 100% with your posts. I just noticed something... Another pointless plot point that didn't go anywhere. In your last clip, we see JLC (Laurie) drinking strawberry milk. In "Ends", Corey had this thing with Chocolate Milk... I noticed it during my viewing, almost like they were trying to make a connection with milk but didn't go anywhere with it. I think the Corey "thing" was fine, however, to shoehorn it in, in the last film of a trilogy that set up a 44 year story. That was the WORST thing they could've done to the franchise. Other horror franchises tried to do this very thing and it failed. I know the writers/directors were trying to tell a story of "evil", but it has been 44 years. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. We want substance, but we also don't want a completely different character(s) that we've known for over four decades, that set the state for the genre.

I'll be honest, I liked the ideas Ends had. I like the idea of someone else putting on the Myers mask and becoming (even being driven to becoming, as Corey was) the next Boogeyman, kind of like how it was with Friday the 13th part 5, how a new face put on the Hockey Mask...but DAMN did the execution suck. It's like they were trying to be Jason Goes to Hell and F13 Part 5 at the same time. Like how Kills was trying to be Halloween 2 (1981) and Halloween 4 at the same time. I honestly didn't hate the romance subplot, but I do think it didn't work to the film's betterment. Sure, JLC was great as Laurie in these movies, but after 2 films of her being obsessed with Michael, even being willing to ignore her injuries to help hunt him down, her pretty much moving on after he kills her daughter made no sense. Plus the weird flip-flopping of being on Corey's side to not wanting him near Alison was wonky.

Personally a major thing I’d change in the sequel trilogy would be to keep Vicky alive; she was a very likeable character played by a very likeable actress, and I feel like one of Lauri’s granddaughter’s friends being a new main character would’ve totally been a neat way to subvert expectations! I was only okay with Kills initially because I thought they were going to introduce her in the hospital, possibly even to meet and chat with Laurie on their hospital beds

IMHO what really ruined Halloween kills and ends is the change from an iconic stalker who ambushes his prey at its most vulnerable state, to a freaking terminator kind of guy. Instead of horror, it was generic action movie type of deal. The aura around Micheal pretty much disappeared especially after the humiliation that he went through and the worst kind of thing to do to a character you are supposed to fear, is make him a joke. Furthermore, I always feel sad when I rewatch the scene when Karen took Micheal's mask and taunted him to get of off her daughter and him following her. What REALLY would've elevated that movie is him looking at her then closing the door to finish her daughter off before disappearing.

I'd say the main problem with the current trilogy is the attempt at retconning over 40+ years worth of lore for a grounded take that turned out more boring than all of them. I almost appreciate Kills more now that Ends is out. While Kills is what it is, it further proves all of our points of WHY Ends was so bad. They sold us two stories (2018 and Kills), pushing us into a certain plot point and idea of who these characters are and the story they were marketing and trying to tell. Then when Ends comes out, it basically makes the previous two films pointless. The set ups and everything, were all pointless. For me even the 2018 movie didn't work. It simultaneously erased the previous sequels, and yet wholeheartedly relied on them for its setup. The mask has no significance in the first movie; it's just a random thing he stole from a store. Now it's like a totem that's supposed to carry so much weight. At least in Rob Zombie's film that actually makes sense. And when Laurie calls the psychiatrist "the new Loomis", that line makes no sense without the previous sequels having happened. Loomis was just some guy that she interacted with for all of 5 minutes in the first movie. It relied on nostalgia just as much as any other horror reboot. And plus the writing was pretty shoddy. When the doctor dude just randomly turned into a maniac I actually laughed at how stupid it was. The first Halloween is a classic, Rob Zombie's is fun if you like crazy trailer park redneck mayhem, but nah, all 3 of the new films are subpar.

Sadly, he couldn't write characters that weren't caricatures, and slasher movies don't really lend themselves well to realism. I've always personally enjoyed his take on the story, but that's just me. The 2018 film had the exact same premise as the original film, only this time with a 70 year old psycho, and that's just silly. The trauma was way too amped up especially when ignoring part 2 and beyond. Her portrayal of this was much more believable in H20. Halloween Ends is so off the wall, that it's puzzling how they came to some of their final decisions. I know it will be a while before we see a new Halloween film, if ever. I kind of want them to live the franchise alone and let the legacy be, but then again when I think of Halloween Ends as the final Halloween film ever, I get very sad. Although I have MANY problems with this trilogy, it's given me excitement and hope these past four years and I am thankful for that. H18 really is good and the sad thing is HK is extremely well shot and elements of it are great--- it could have been a worthy sequel on par with H18 and been the finale had it just had some better writing. The flashback sequence and the first 1/3 of HK is pretty damn good--- him appearing and killing the firefighters is exciting even to the biggest hater of the film. It's just... the mob mentality crap sideshow, the whole he's taking damage and not supernatural but surviving too many fatal wounds... If he had just gone on one last rampage and then a smaller mob w/some cops and good character side story development with the idea of showing the psychology of the town underneath the horror of the situation and you have a good film. Another scene-- Myers in the bathroom in HK tending to a hand wound or whatever and smashing the light. He's genuinely in HK probably the creepiest Myers yet and they blow it on a bad ending and bad elements. Ends if it were me and it's probably not popular, I'd have killed off Myers in HK(in the context of better writing as noted)and then Ends could be a post character development film centered around a copy cat killer(s)who they think is Myers and you could make an interesting psychological film that certain people would dig and others would hate due to it not featuring Myers. Then that kills the series. No more lol.

Kills sort of mimics Halloween 2 with the hospital and Lori being sidelined while he’s on a rampage. Halloween Ends seemingly does the same with 3 Season of the Witch. The blue font used, a separate story. Michael is seemingly shoehorned in just to end the trilogy. Things I hatred about Ends…Michael went from full beast mode to cowardly, weak homeless man. Also, Lori couldn’t forget the trauma of 1978 for 40 years…but has gotten over the trauma of 2018 and the loss of her daughter in 4 years?!?!?!? The night I walked out of the theater with my kid (disappointed) I quickly rewrote the last part in my head and everyone who I’ve told my version to has said “wow…yeah I’d have rather seen that”. I guess in a few years we’ll get another take on Halloween from someone. Hopefully nothing woke or any cringe bs. Akkad will keep this going forever. It’s a cash cow.

@@nerychristian ok a bit much, but here we go. So I’d have kept it the same until Corey at the bridge. Instead of being thrown off, I’d have Corey run from the teens and hide in the sewer, the teens follow him and Michael “awakens” and kills the teens. Corey manages to escape. He tries to tell Laurie and Alison that Michael is back and Laurie especially doesn’t believe him and think he’s trying to use the story to get close to Alison. Alison is uncertain. Laurie is definitely NOT over it after only four years and the loss of her daughter. Haddonfield is also a shell of itself and mostly a run down half abandoned town after the 2018 killings. Then the murders start again. Corey tries to tell police Michael is back and they don’t believe him either, based on his reputation as a “murderer” and town reject. When it’s discovered people have been killed, Corey gets blamed and police begin a manhunt for him. So he’s on the run and Michael is on the loose at the same time. He finally convinces Alison it’s not him, they convince Laurie and the 3 of them have to dodge police and try to hunt and stop Michael at the same time, leading to the final showdown.

My biggest response to everyone thinking Laurie was out of character in Ends is that it makes sense that now, as Alison's guardian (at least she would have been after Karen died and she was still in high school) is that Laurie is overcompensating for letting her obsession with Michael ruin her relationship with her family. She is trying to be the fun grandma now. I think losing Karen made her realize that life is essentially too short to shut out the world forever. She barely had contact or time with her own daughter, so she's trying to be better for Alison. I didn't take it as her being over it, I took it as her overcorrecting and trying to now live a normal life for her grandaughter.

I remember talking to a friend about Ends, and he brought up an idea, one single change, that maybe could have made the Corey stuff work better: have Michael actually killed at the end of Kills, and imply that the evil he embodies is passed on. Is it perfect? No. Would it fix everything? Probably not. Would it improve the film though? Probably.
@nerychristian

I thought the same thing too. The final 10 minutes of Halloween Ends should have been the ending of Halloween Kills. Or it could have been the intro scene of Ends. And then they can show Corey finding the mask while working at his father's junk yard. And show him slowly turning evil. And at the end of the movie, show him kill Laurie. And have her grandaughter become the new Laurie who promises to kill Corey .

Really good video overall. I am more pragmatic about Ends than the other 99% of people. I think in 10-15 years, a few years after the next reboot, I think people will have a much more accepting attitude about Ends. They DID give us a Laurie vs MM fight in the last half hour. They rewarded the Final Girl over the Killer. Not the 1st movie to have done that, but whatever. Anyway, I do feel that the trilogy will be seen in an overall positive light.

Do people forget that the whole point of Kills, when it wasn't just bland violence, was that fear and hatred can turn normal people into monsters? It was so unsubtle. And then Ends comes out and shows a direct continuation of that idea with Corey being a parallel to Laurie by giving in to that fear and letting it consume him and turn him into a new murderer. As far as I'm concerned Corey was Michael Myers. It was a great way to finish the story imo
@derkeheath5172

Nobody forgot. It's just not nearly as deep as the creators seem to think. The Corey plot could have worked if it was given its own due and written smarter, but it's half-assed. Imagine if we had gotten to know Corey in the first two films, liked him, and then saw him slowly transform into a killer. As is, though, it's completely out of nowhere and feels like a complete bait-and-switch in a movie billed as "the final confrontation between Laurie and Michael". Kills and Ends had lots of interesting ideas, but far too many of them were executed very sloppily.

@@derkeheath5172 It is a bait and switch. That was the big point of Ends. Michael not being the big bad and then having a sloppy fight with Laurie at the end imo was supposed to feel like 2 people at the end of their ropes desperately trying to end a fight that had been happening for 40 years. Also, just to clarify if you didn't like it that's fine. I just want to encourage people who didn't like to see ut from another perspective if they rewatch it. They took the family bloodline, brother/sister plot away. Made it all about Jamie Lee Curtis who claimed she didn't even watch the sequels she wasn't in. Proving she's no real fan of the franchise. She wanted all credit and ownage of Halloween so on her way out in the sunset of her career wanted to take Michael Myers with her along with the hundred million in cash... I prefer the Thorn trilogy over the new trilogy.. The family storyline was the way to go after the original and I think after 3 or 4 movues, the Thorn tattoo and cult shit was the way to go and they should revisit that timeline along with some of the ideas. In the new trilogy he was humanized while in the first 8 movies you weren't sure.They also tried making him look like a hobo again like in Rob Zombies Halloween II. For me we haven't had the traditional real Michael Myers since Resurrection

ENDS was phenomenal. My God we've had 12 other movies of the Michael Myers slaughterverse.. the one time they deviate (well, okay SECOND time after H3) they get crucified for it. I absolutely LOVED the idea of watching evil passed on to a character that has been conditioned to it by a town's hatred. Half way through the movie I had to pause for a bit and just take it in. I could not believe the 14th movie in a slasher franchise could be this unique and thought-provoking. I found myself wishing this had been the SECOND in the trilogy and that they could have taken more time to flesh out Corey and carry him into the third.

Not once in this new trilogy does Micheal care about finding Lourie, it's all coincidence. The new trilogy are just 3 awfully written dumb movies. I personally really loved Halloween ends and it is my favorite of the new trilogy. With 2018 we essentially get the original film again but very polished and well acted with some bad humor thrown in but ultimately that didn't hurt the movie. Then you get kills which as you stated is just Halloween 2 again which I don't really care too much for just another rehash of Halloween 2 but if you're just there for the Carnage it does deliver. Then we get to ends a film that I absolutely adore it's not about Michael Myers one last Showdown with Lauri Strode it's about a weakend and dying evil that needs to pass on to someone else in order to survive, a sickness so to speak. Corey acts as the vessel to that evil based on his trauma and experiences which broke him down as a person leaving him susceptible to it. What we get in the final Halloween film at least of this series is a man slowly losing his mind and indulging in what makes him happy a woman that he cares about and murder. The further he goes along the less we get of the innocent young man at the beginning of the film and it delivers a unique experience that isn't just another damn rehash which is what this series is known for even the first two films of this Trilogy are basically just rehashes of what we've seen before. I don't think subversion just for the sake of it makes a movie good but I think it was done really damn well in this film. I didn't just want to see Laurie and Myers duking it out again in one final big Showdown we essentially got that in 2018. That would have been the obvious route but instead they said hey here's something different something a little more thought-provoking than that and I think it worked magnificently I know that I'm in the minority when it comes to this film and I'm not trying to be a contrarian but it legitimately works very well for me and I loved that final entry in the trilogy.

Fuck the novel.... It's all food for idiots... Oh yeah it's what the book say now... Forget about previous rhetoric & how it doesn't make sense...The logic inserted now is what we believe even though the inserted logic specifically revolves around the franchise's main character...Logic that they would know before anyone....Like if I had to shit... I would go shit... So if Michael needs to kill...wouldn't he go kill or is it the injuries?.... Regardless neither makes no sense....with normal person logic... Michael would be dead but smoke inhalation & gettin' his neck stomped on doesn't bother him....Now I haven't seen this travesty yet because I knew it wouldn't be good months ago but I've seen & heard enough... So to prove it doesn't make sense... I'm hearing that the movie depicts that Michael has to kill to regain power & as I already said... Wouldn't Michael know that but in actuality that's not true.... Michael's Superhuman strength was evident when he cracked the car window with an open hand when he first broke out the mental facility in '78 ... He had only killed his sister.... So by writer's credit the logic inserted into this last installment is now believable.... Ridiculously believable to New World Thinkers.... Hilarious.🎃... The Shape Lurks🔨🔪🎃
