Yep, I am one of the 20% who can't digest kale. I was on a kale kick last summer and made a juice of kale, carrot, ganny smith apple, fennel and ginger. Well after 4 days of stomach indigestion I learned my lesson. No kale for me. I learned that kale is in the cruciferous family which I can't digest any of them as well. One the best way to fix those two problems is to steam it rather than eating it raw. Especially if it is affecting your thyroid. Cycle between spinach, collard, kale, lettuce, parsley and other green leaves. I always steam a bit and it even tastes better.

@melaniejames60067 жыл бұрын
when you are home, work up to more raw. you can always pack a cooler with salads and juices, especially if you have an electric one you can plug into in your truck. you can juice and freeze, then put in cooler and will last a few days at least. otherwise, snacks like raw nuts and seed that have been soaked and dehydrated are good. takes prep, but worth the effort. try to focus on small changes otherwise you get overloaded. and stay hydrated!

You can get constipated from too much fibre for sure. In fact it can be the leading cause of constipation. Funny how a vegetable becomes the "best thing on the planet" , but give it enough time and people will look for something to condemn it. Kale was, is, and always will be good for you, you just can't do what most Americans do, and that's take it to extremes. That being said, we are all bio-identically different, and foods have different effects on different people. Listen to your body, but I will bet a rational amount of kale in the diet will be in your best health interest!

birage so it will be best to mix kale lettuce spinach and other foods? I'm trying to find the best solution here with raw foods.
@birage98857 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, remember that we need diversity in our diet. Mixing greens will give a broader spectrum of nutrients, rather than just eating a lot of one particular type of green that may be strong in certain nutrients, but lacking in others, hence the reason to include many different types of vegetables (providing you don't have an allergy or reaction to any sort of food). Also, cruciferous vegetables, as well as most vegetables are better digested when cooked and eliminate the goitrigen factor that allegedly suppresses the thyroid. If you have a strong digestive sytem you may not have a problem with raw vegetables, but people with SIBO, for example, have a hard time with raw and should stay with cooked. As they say, listen to your body. If you get gassy, crampy, etc., you may need to cook your greens. Good luck and be healthy.

Exactly, people hear about one veggie that is "good" for you and go nuts on it. A variety of veggies of all different colours.

You should also point out that, like spinach, Kale is great in terms of phytonutrients . . . but it does contain oxalic acid, which in excessive amounts may cause kidneys stones, gout, rheumatoid arthritis. The key is to consume kale (here's that loaded word again) in "moderation"; don't over do it. Listen to your body (if you feel funny afterwards, cut back) . Also, lightly boiling, steaming or fermentation reduces the amount of oxalic acid.

As a health freak I can attest also that I hate kale and love spinach! Here in Australia though we get KALETTES which are little kale-like things about the size of a brussel sprout and they are delicious and only available in winter for some reason. I lightly steam them then dust with a little salt and pepper.

I like to eat the Southern Green mixtures that include spinach, turnips, and collard greens. My mom used to boil them to death until I'm sure there was no nutrients left in them, but I cook them in avocado oil until they just turn color.
