How is that unreasonable or unbelievable that koko gets depressed and dosent want to see her friends because she crashed there car? If I crashed my friends car and almost KILLED a whole group of friends I'd absolutely feel terrible and get depressed and not want to see anyone for a while, it's not like koko never sees them again she eventually gets over it and restores her relationships with them... Its a completely reasonable thing to do, just because you wouldn't handle it that way dosent mean no one else would and its "not believable".

The reason why the characters seem stupid is because they're realistic! They make unreasonable desicions for the same reasons as us humans do. The characters blaming themselves for dumb reasons after the accident is very realistic. Knowing me, I would probably do the same. Ghost Banri influences things like weather and traffic because of a curse he put on Banri. This is a japanese show, so remember the japanese legends and stuff. It's common for people to believe in things like spirits and curses over there. I will not argue about the whole amnesia thing, as I honsetly am not at all informed on that topic. I personally liked the last episode, but that's probably because I'm a lot like Kouko and I like clichéd, cheesy romances XD

The scene with Koko saying she wanted to break up with Banri I had to pause it and think it over. On one hand I know she is being over dramatic and she needs to come back down from her high horse before it bites her. But on the other hand she had been in her room for a long ass time thinking. And when you spend so much time beating yourself up over something you start thinking crazy thoughts. As some in one or two relationships I know what it's like when you do ONE THING WRONG and you think it's the END OF EVERYTHING and you messed up and then you won't be loved anymore and you freak the fuck out and do the stupidest sh*t! And you try to bail fast. Which probably what happened to Koko Luckily Banri brought her back down to Earth cause I would've cussed her out first.
@3InchesofLove9 жыл бұрын
+RedFlyer411 It makes sense especially with her personality type. There is a reason why couples that go through trauma too great to handle end up separating. Look at the statistics for couples that go through the loss of a child. They rarely stay together. This was a trauma almost like that where she almost killed her friends. The guilt of it all probably smashed on her and she was already an insecure person to begin with always doubting whether banri loved her and just like you said she probably felt she couldn't be loved so instead of getting dumped she did the dumping first as a defense mechanism to protect herself. Psychologically given her personality it makes sense. I didn't watch the rest of this video because spoilers but I'm sure I'll see more things that make sense and come back to argue the points. So far I really like this anime though and i dunno if it's better or worse than toradora but i'm sure there is a point to make for both sides of the argument.

At the beginning, I thought Ghost Banri was there for us to understand what happened with Banri's "amnesia" thus making better character development. But then, he started like "possessing" Banri and causing shit to go down that wasn't logical, and it somehow made a weird love triangle between a man with two split personalities with Koko and Linda. Also noted was that we don't actually learn a lot of side character's backgrounds, not even Koko, as the story was pinpointed for his sake only, for example I didn't learn much about 2D-kun other than he has a drivers license and he is good with computers. The romance was kinda rushed as well, and if I'd ever give a grade rating at this, it would be at least be a B- or a C+ It was kinda enjoyable nonetheless, and I had fun with the humor points.

Maybe the characters being written horribly isn't horrible at all. Maybe the writers were attempting to make them make stupid decisions because people are like that in real life. The car crash confessions are completely believable because the friends are trying to make Koko feel better by dropping more blame onto them. They justify it that way. People are like this in real life. The things that don't make sense to me are ghost banri, the memory loss and gains, and the last episode. Other than that, all that drama is realistic and if the writers were going for that, they accomplished it. Trust me, I've been through stuff like that and seen it. IT MAKES SENSE.

Ugh. I hate how much I love this show. As insultingly dumb as the second half of this show is, the first half does enough to get me to really like the characters, and regardless of how silly some of the stuff in the latter half is I can't help but enjoy it. I would make an argument that some of the Koko nonsense drama is justified just because of Koko's nature, she's driven by emotion, it's not all that surprising that she'd break up with Banri in the spur of the moment because of some guilt and a dream. Of course, they really could have parsed that information better, because it comes across, really, really badly in the scene. The scene where they're confessing their guilt was awful. I can see what they were trying to go for there, they didn't blame Koko for what happened, but there are so many better ways to relay that information. There's no reason for them to blame themselves. Ghost Banri is really what kills everything of course, even if I can see the creators were going for with a lot of the other bullshit they pulled, I have no idea what they were thinking with Ghost Banri. He's less an extension of Banri's character, and more a really awful(and poorly explained) plot device used to farm drama. You get the sense that he's a manifestation of Banri's suppressed memories, but then it seems like he has some influence on the world, but even if he didn't it's bad writing because of the massive amounts of coincidence used. Plus, the last episode is atrocious. I like the pairing they end with, but my god, it was incoherent. I wish I could find a way to slice it in which this show is good, but it's not. It's my guilty pleasure : /. I do think some of the second half stuff is so bad it's good, which makes this show unique in the fact that it went from genuinely good, to so bad it's good.

There were a few problems with the show as you mentioned about the ghost banri having super natural powers and workings if amnesia but the things you've mentioned about kouko breaking up with with him and fighting with him after the accident were not that true. Imagine how would you feel after endangering your friend's life, probably feel guilty, but as you mentioned and as it is also mentioned in the anime kouko is quite a complicated girl, she does have problems in working with her emotions. She probably felt more guilty and ashamed of herself than how an average youth would've had, also her father hit her fucking hard in front of her friends. She was a sensitive girl, and also she was too worried about the dream she was having and that also effected the guilt she had for endangering everyone (happens to literally everyone) that's why that topic was brought up during their fight. And ghost banri doesn't take over banri as far we they showed it was only once ghost banri took over him. The other times he just remembered past like episodes, that was the reason why he spaced out when kouko greeted him, he wasn't even there.
@JustJoeKing53 жыл бұрын
Ghost Banri is based on a Japanese folklore called Ikiryo which is essentially a disembodied spirit or Living Ghost. Since Ghost Banri held a grudge against Banri it led to a curse being placed on Banri causing bad luck for Banri. It was shown in one of the episodes that Ghost Banri was mad that Banri had essentially denied the feelings Ghost Banri had for Linda leading to the curse being placed. The curse was lifted at the end of the show however because of Linda as Linda had essentially gotten rid of his tether to Banri and that let Ghost banri move on and without Linda’s involvement the curse probably would’ve followed Banri for the rest of his life.

First issue, the driving thing. If you say it's your opinion, that's fine, but that's Japanese culture. You goal in life is to bother and be as burden to people as little as possible. Suddenly she's in a situation where 4 people could have died because of her. What would that do to her parents and their hospital? Quite more than you seem to grasp. This isn't an American show, and while I agree with some things, you have to take into an account that the point of view that this is coming from is a completely different culture. I've never gotten into an accident myself, but her reaction kind of opened my eyes to realize that even getting close to an accident with someone else in the car, narrowly avoiding another car or something, was what could have been inches from a situation that could have led someone to die because of me. Instead of rejecting the scene, it made me more open minded about my situations. Sorry I'm writing this while watching -- then you go on to think it's stupid for why they blame themselves?... have you ever watched anything other than anime from Japan? Especially older samurai movies, maybe try something from Akira Kurosawa. As baffling as you might find it, it's not an anime thing. There are people who blame themselves for stupid shit like that in real life, it's the kind of culture based around respecting others. You never want to say it's someone else's fault. And no, going on that logic, no new drivers would be allowed to drive in a more dangerous situation, such as night time when everyone is sleepy. That was just a derp on your part. "Dissociative fugue (formerly psychogenic fugue) is also known as fugue state. It is caused by psychological trauma and is usually temporary, unresolved and therefore may return. An individual with dissociation fugue disorder is unaware or confused about his or her identity and will travel in journeys away from familiar surroundings to discover or create new identities.[17] The Merck Manual defines it as " one or more episodes of amnesia in which patients cannot recall some or all of their past and either lose their identity or form a new identity. The episodes, called fugues, result from trauma or stress. Dissociative fugue often manifests as sudden, unexpected, purposeful travel away from home."[18] While popular in fiction, it is extremely rare." From wikipedia. Seriously, I know you're trying to grasp desperately because you need it to fit into your "Problems With" series, but just lazily not looking something up, and telling them they got it wrong is just annoying. Everything else is you not understanding metaphoric drama. Is ghost banri even a real ghost? People seemed to hate that "breakaway from reality". But at the same time, it literally could just be a visual representation of his old memories which are still somewhere in his head. Sort of a dramatic irony for the viewers only. It's pretty ingenious method of dramatic irony too, if that's what it is. The big turn off of the series was when ghost banri was able to "curse" him, because that just takes it away from the whole dramatic irony thing. Then again... was he cursed? It can rain on days that you think it's going to be sunny, and ghost banri was apparently not in control as we may have thought, as he was crying for someone to wake up during the car scene. I really want to go into the philosophical importance of his memories and "identity", but I really enjoyed that part far too much, and going over it will double this post. I just finished this series recently... am I fanboying? I don't know, maybe I am unintentionally, but I really see these "problems" to be quite a stretch, or just plain wrong, or misunderstanding of the culture it comes from. You know what may be fun, have a "good things about" series, where you try to stay open minded, and force yourself to see the good parts of a culture. Jeez that was quite a write up. Don't go look at review right after finishing a series.

Toradora is the most overreated romcom ever. Couldn't even finish that trash. Its just boring. And I can't even comprehend how are we supposed to like the main heroine. She is literally just a violent bitch. Koko is needy and obssessive as fuck. But at least that is better than the worst kind of tsundere. You actually need to be a machoist to like that chick. I would rather take someone who needs massive attention then a girl who kicks the shit out of me for no reason.

The dream Kouko mentioned, because of driving and suddenly wants to break up with him. It happens... in a similar note that women and prolly sometimes men dreaming of their man or woman cheating on them, suddenly slapping their partner. With their partner dumbfounded and all, asking... "What did I do????" The 2nd time Kouko wants to break-up with Banri because she found the video from the Okamera. Banri doesn't want Kouko to know what is happening to him which somehow breaking their promise of no secrets from each other

Coco didn't get over mitsuo overnight. The reason bandri wanted to end his friendship with coco was because all she did was talking about mitsuo even thought she supposedly was over him. He couldn't handle it anymore. The feelings coco had for mitsuo definitely lingered.
@abhimanyumuni97162 жыл бұрын
i agree it wasn't overnight she just didn't know it was love that was making her grow closer to banri and getting over mitsuo but when he told her that he won't be with her anymore she came to realise his importance his love and her feelings too ..she didn't know what real love felt like ,banri changed her ,approached her when she needed the most, this all made her like him and they grew closer when they were dating their feelings grew deeper they fell in love deeper.

So you can't say Madoka is better than SAO or that Baccano is better than Asterisk War because people have opinions? You're mistaking opinions with facts. Just because someone's opinion of 1+1 is 3 doesn't mean we can't say that 1+1 is 2 and that's the only way. While people's opinions and taste are different, there are certain objective standards that can be applied to stories. Yes, you can ENJOY and like SAO over Madoka and so on, but that doesn't mean one can't make a factual statement that Madoka is just better than SAO while still having the statement retain it's truth.

Aight I can somewhat agree with this, but as for Koko, she is clearly Bi-polar. I can relate to her an EXTREME amount and she reacts the way somebody who is bi-polar would definitely react. Extremely irrational. I made the TINIEST mistakes before and I completely shut down because my brain handles it that way and thinks "NO ONE WILL THINK I'M PERFECT ANYMORE, IT'S ALL OVER" so I find koko's erratic and stupid behavior believable. LIKE WTF. I can let the power of ghost Banri go but the ghost bridge thing is so f-ing stupid. Like Linda hugging ghost Banri. That’s so dumb. Honestly they should’ve just made Banri combine his memory but Banri’s feeling for Koko are so much stronger the Linda and Banri just remember everything and the interaction just goes on like it did with Koko. IMO
@JustJoeKing53 жыл бұрын
I believe this was different from how it was shown as she was talking to Banri in that scene as shown when she was leaving. My guess is Banri interpreted it as meant for Ghost Banri. As for Ghost Banri having powers, Ghost banri is based on a Japanese folklore called Ikiryo which is a Disembodied spirit or a “Living Ghost” Ghost banri was fine with Banri until Banri had rejected his feelings for Linda which made Ghost Banri hold a grudge leading to the curse being placed as he felt Banri wronged him. Linda lifted this however when she accepted Banri’s feelings for her but she knew that he liked Koko more so didn’t persue him leading to Banri getting over it and leaving which lifted the curse

@TheBashful0ne2 жыл бұрын
I watched Golden time for the first time this weekend. Koko should've stayed broken up with him when she saw that breakdown because he was highly unstable imo. I didn't like that she "loved him" so fast either. It didn't seem right. And I also didn't like that "old banri" would be clueless to where he was. You follow current banri everywhere he goes whether he wants to remember or not. You know about everything, that's why you cursed yourself. You know his day to day life. So why were you acting like you knew nothing when you switched bodies at the festival? You would think he would've switched bodies, assessed the situation on how to handle Koko because he loves Linda, and start over from the bridge like he wanted to. It just didn't make sense.
@bigedman3657 жыл бұрын
How was the ending bad? It was clearly anticipated to happen since the beginning of the last episode. Many things foreshadowed this, like Koko coming to see Banri, showing him the "Remember" on the back of his mirror. Then him looking at the mirror in his room, remembering this isn't his because he isn't perfect. I thought it was an excellent and smooth transaction to the "cliche" ending. I honestly don't know if it's cliche because sad endings happen a lot too so why can't those be cliche??? I thought this was an amazing happy ending and would rather have this then a sad ending like Plastic Memories, that ending had be crying.

Oka blames herself because she thought she made her big scene about her injury and causes Koko to be sad and stayed away from them. Koko is responsible for the accident and she became extremely depressed because of it. She stayed away from her friends because she thought that her childish behaviour causes harms to her friends and also she needed time to be alone. Banri talked to her and she let her feelings out. The fact that she knew and she told banri about her childish behaviour shows that she's growing up The whole amnesia thing and the ghost Banri doesnt make sense but personally I don't think it affected the romance part of the show. So what I did was I simply categorise the anime under romance/supernatural myself. Imo, the romance part of the anime is great. The part where Linda hugs ghost Banri I think they are trying to imply that the ghost can't move on until he hear the answer from Linda that he's been waiting for though i admit it's badly done.

Okay, the part where Koko mentioned she wanted to break up with Banri due to the dream she had was believable. I can vie for this because I've done this to my boyfriend LMAO cause I'd wake up in the middle of the night after a nightmare and confront him about it. Just for reassurance ... I'm sure a lot of girls do it; there was even a meme going around that related to this. Sorry, as girls we can sometimes get too emotional. :') Regarding the story's plot revolving around a case of amnesia, you categorized it as D.I.D. however it actually does resemble a form of amnesia called Fugue state where trauma to the brain causes the person to develop another personality and forget who they are (hence the amnesia), they usually lead lives as new people and after some time regain their memories with some cases not even remembering what has occurred in their fugue state. Obviously the ghost aspect of it is not true but does fill in the blanks of the story in some way if you can put it that way ... Around 6:50, the only reason Banri didn't say anything and gave 2D that response was because he was blanking out, I believe it even shows the audience a flashback prior to that scene. That or ghost Banri was attempting to take over. Lol but that ending, seriously I agree the scene with ghost Banri and Banri over at the bridge and Linda just running up to ghost Banri like it was some sort of natural occurrence, what.

Anterograde amnesia - the patient cannot remember new information. Things that happened recently, information that should be stored into short-term memory disappear. Retrograde amnesia - often thought of as the opposite of anterograde amnesia. The patient cannot remember events that occurred before. IN VERY RARE INSTANCES , BOTH retrograde and anterograde amnesia CAN occur TOGETHER.

The only thing I agreed with you on, was Ghost Banri. Every single time he intervened from the shadows (or so it appeared), I was like, "Fuck you". He was really just a metaphor that the writers of the show got a bit too carried away with. Even then, he becomes the part of Banri that the audience learns to reject, which makes him a rather strategically placed plot element. But seriously, it's literature/ media. In the end, it's up to the viewer's perspective (pure opinion) whether or not it works.

So many people get this wrong. Spoilers ahead incase you've not watched this yet. Ghost Banri isn't a Ghost. In the beginning of the series Banri decides to press forward and accept his new life. This opens him up to the idea of a girlfriend. Over the course of the show we learn of his past with Linda and the terms of their relationship. His crush, her fake rejection, and her true feelings. Last episode. Banri's old memories return and the new ones are gone. He packs up and goes home. He finds out about 2D's email campaign and then hangs out with Linda. Koko shows up to "return a dvd" and tries to slip him the mirror in Hope's of jogging his memory. She had a message written on the back of the one she tried to give Banri. This plan works and Banri regains his memories of Koko, chases after her. Linda follows to throw the shoes because Banri is a 7 yr old who runs faster with new kicks. Which brings us to the bridge. Sitrep: Banri reverted to his old memories and then had his post amnesia memory returned thanks to Koko. He now has all of the memories. He makes it to the bridge and encounters "Ghost Banri". Ghost Banri says that real Banri ignored him and shut him out referring to Banri's decision to move on and have a fresh start at college. Linda comes running in and confesses to "Ghost Banri" and then walks away from real Banri and throws her support behind Real Banri x Koko. "Ghost Banri" is a manifestation of Banri's memories and desires before the accident. That's why they can't talk to each other. Only one set of memories was in play until now. Ghost Banri says that real Banri ignored him and shut him out referring to Banri's decision to move on and have a fresh start at college. Linda runs in, confesses to old Banri and then leaves supporting new Banri and Koko. This closes the love triangle and settles Linda's plot line. We're being told that Linda loves Banri and didn't shoot her shot when she had it. It would be unfair to expect him to leave Koko for her when she rejected him earlier for superficial reasons and now Koko is in the picture. Linda confessing to old Banri also serves as a sneaky fan service to appease anyone who was Team Linda. With that understanding I can see how some may not like this ending. This show did a great job of developing characters and their relationships to one another. It provides a more natural, realistic, and mature relationship between the love triangle. To see a cheap fan service ending where both parties in the love triangle seem to win feels like a cop out. It doesn't fit with the style of the show up to that point and the execution of the concept feels sloppy. I would have much preferred some dialog from Linda before Koko's surprise visit. Have her begin to resolve her plot line by confessing to Banri and then immediately stating that she can't be with him and that she will always be a friend, etc. With that bombshell Koko shows up, drops the DVD off and heads for the bridge. Between those two events we have strong cause for Banri's memory to comeback. Now he goes to the bedroom and finds the mirror, memories return, internal dialog about how he tried to run from the past and how it's a mistake... Linda can tell by the expression on his face what's going on and tells him to go after her. Banri grabs the shoes and runs out the door and we have the Koko scene on the bridge NO ghost Banri. Plot lines are closed, same story is conveyed and the only thing we really lose is the fan service Linda x Banri moment which, now isn't necessary. I feel doing this through dialog rather than the messy, confusing, and random supernatural feeling ending that was would've been more in line with the themes presented in the show and would've created better tension. The old crush confessing her love, the new girl showing up and causing the new memories to append is way better drama than ghosts living under bridges.

I just got done reading the manga myself and this help me understand the ending abit better, was a tad bit confuse. I kinda got the idea that both old and new Banri merge together and he had at least most of his memory though it stated later that some were still missing. Overall I enjoy the story and kinda wish it was abit longer and the ending didn't feel so rush,(that was alot to fill in with only 45 pages). At the same time I get what the video is getting at as well if the anime jump around abit to much, with the manga being around 50 chapter each being around 25 to 40 pages each and the anime only having 24 episodes alot of content had to be cut which in cases like this can hurt the story but I have no idea if this is true AS you can see I really late to the game with this one seeing the video is over 4 years old.
