Back to the dealer she goes! Getting to our destination, it was perfect.. but on the ride back, the "ALARM URGENT SERVICE" message came back on. For now, she's at the dealer but I did tell them I suspect its the servo and to just give me a new bike cuz I'm not dealing with this on a 20K bike.. Now the waiting begins.. Stay tuned for an update to come! Otherwise, enjoy a quick review of my new RSV4.

One of the first things I noticed when starting on a streetbike few months back is how quickly traffic behind you disappears.....I would jump off the line and get to 80-90mph fairly quickly and when I looked back to change a lane thought traffic would be not right with me but somewhat close and they were so small in my mirror....I really didn't think I was going that fast but traffic disappears at an alarming rate.....so it's funny you say that

My first big bike was an Aprilia Dorsoduro 750. I loved that bike but then sold it to buy the Street Triple 765 R (2020). So I still have some residual loyalty to Aprilia. I'm sad to hear about your bad out-of-the-box experience with the RSV4. I hope they give you a working replacement. (I rode my Dorsoduro for 4.5 years without knowing my Aprilia "personal code". hahaha!!)

I own the 2021 RSV4 Factory in the blue. It's great. She's the queen of the lot at almost any meet. But... Ok. They are delicate to say the least. And you are limited on your options if you do need non warranty repairs. Mine has developed two minor oil leaks. And, as it crossed into the 2k miles, it seems to have lost a tiny bit of the bottom end grunt. Top end is there but she seems a tiny bit sluggish on the low end. Also, if you run the numbers, it's costing somewhere between 50-75 cents a mile to operate if you factor in the required maintenance items along with consumables. All that being said, I love the bike. No regrets at all. It was cheaper than the GT3 I had my eye on and a much lower cost to operate per mile.

The alarm urgent service seems to come up for a few reasons. 1. due to the exhaust servo motor if the cables aren’t adjusted properly 2. the quick shift sensor that’s known to fail for some, likely due to contamination. 3. Bad battery - but this will put the bike into limp mode. Happened to me on a demo bike. New battery fixed it. A tune or healtech servo eliminator will take care of the servo issue. Failed QS sensor is warranty replacement. I didn’t have this issue but did have some other minor issues when I first got the bike. Oil overfilled from the factory causing an oil leak, and also leaking stator cover. A little frustrating but dealer was able to address both and no more leaks (so far). I went with the brentune and SC project SC1-R and am very happy with the power and overall improved rideability and response. Especially in 1st/2nd where it’s restricted from factory. Faster than full bolt on k67 s1K and a hell of a lot more fun due to the way it delivers power in the midrange. It ain’t a Japanese bike, but it’s a hell of a machine and glad I gave Aprilia a chance. It’s a nice change of pace compared to the jap bikes I’ve had leading up to this. FYI you’ll need to visit the dealer so they can reset the EEPROM using the pads device after flashing the bike.
@PetroHead
@PetroHead Жыл бұрын
Thank you for notifying me about all this. Thankfully I have a great relationship with my dealer so they replaced the bike with a new one. I’ve heard negative things about BTuning but you’re saying they are alright? People in forums commented tune is not for 21+ bikes but rather older gen 650ib bike which turned me off. Otherwise, what is this EEPROM and why do I have to do this?
@Doing_The_Thing
@Doing_The_Thing Жыл бұрын
It was mentioned in the Gabro tune thread on apriliaforums as one of the post-flash requirements. For me I have the factory version so 2 reasons. 1 ibecause the cruise control up/down function stopped working. This will affect your bike too. 2. The electronic suspension control (SCU) module needed to be reset. All good after that. I wasn’t fully sold on Gabro even if they have a good reputation within the Aprilia community. From my understanding the BT flash operates on fully closed-loop whereas the gabro /upMap tunes are open-loop. This means the Bren tune would run well regardless if the conditions are hot and humid or cold and dry. Reached out to a couple 21+ Rsv4 owners that roll race these bikes and the consensus was more power with the BT flash or overall positive feedback on the BT flash. The only negative feedback I’ve seen is from hearsay or other aprilia owners that went with gabro but didn’t have direct experience with BT themselves. Only other thing is I asked BT to keep my redline stock. Would advise the same for warranty purposes and for longevity of the valvetrain.

The RSV4 is definitely one of my favorite bikes. It stands with it's looks, handling, and incredible V4 sound. But boy does it suck on reliability. I find myself not trusting it enough for long rides (which makes sense I guess since it is a race bike). I find myself choosing my 14' S1000RR over my 18' RSV4 for more spirited rides as it is definitely more reliable. Sadly you miss out on the V4 sound. That's why I only take the RSV4 on small rides instead.

The prolbem is with mechanics, not the bike. The industry doesn't pay well enough to attract good techs or willing to pay them the time to solve the issue. 2022 RSV4 only about 4000 km... B fuse did the same for me many times.. then all the sudden never had an issue again. The newest issue I am having is when the tank is full, after riding for some time.. when approximately 1.5gl is finished, the fuel indicator will begin flashing for no reason. If I turn off the bike and leave it off for some time, it won't come back on. These Aprilia's are lemons. Love them or hate them (or both.. like me lol)

I love my 2022 rsv4 factory so so much but... At just 1100 miles ive had many urgent service warnings 😢. This week after riding 30 miles the bike jerked rapidly on and off about 5 times then the engine stalled. It was really dangerous and I was lucky to get away with it this time. The bike is at the dealer now but im not holding out much hope as they fobbed me off before saying it was my fault for not having the bike permently on charge! Fingers crossed because its one of the best bikes to ride and I really want to keep it
@PetroHead

On charge?? If they are referring to your battery.. what does that have to do with anything. As long as the bike starts and gets moving, if systems work properly it should begin to charge. @@PetroHead Never heard of KTM then? KTM and lots of other companies use a different oil for running in than they specify for ongoing use. "Martin Wabnegger of Swiss oil firm Motorex, supplies KTM with its lube. He gave us some insight into these running-in oils. “The bedding-in happens via plastic deformation of the surface roughness, through the heat created by the friction between two moving surfaces. In order to allow for this friction to create the required temperatures the engine oil for running in has a different specification than the one for normal use after the first oil change." Fast Bikes 2019. That is the primary reason why there is such a short interval between the first oil change. As a former professional engine builder we also use assembly lube which has an entirely different viscosity and make up than the specified oil. You might enjoy paying down your debt by working in a mechanic's workshop, and learning at the same time.

Did you ever get your personal code sorted? It comes not set from the factory, thats why you get the notification on startup. The steps on my 19' Tuono V4 was as follows. 1) Turn your dash on and use the Mode Selector (left handlebar joystick) to select: Menu > Configuration > Service > Change your code. 2) Your dash should say "new code" 3) Use the Mode Selector to select numbers for your code. Up/down to select a number from 0-9 (I used last 5 of VIN). After you've selected your 5th number the code will be "set/locked" on the screen (you won't be able to do anything else on the dash/screen for the time being). This is telling you THAT'S your new number... don't forget it! (Write it down in your owner's manual or something. Seriously... write it down so the next person that owns your bike will have this easily available.) 4) Turn the dash off. You're done! The next time you start your bike... you'll just see... your dash!!! (no more giant blue reminder)

Not to 'um actually', but there is evidence that break-in works best when subjecting a new engine to a variety of environments in a controlled way. Ari Henning and FortNine both cover break-ins quite well. Most manufacturers are conservative with their recommendations because if they aren't, hooligans will be at redline all the time and either blow the engine or wind up in a hedge and it's mostly a liability thing. My mate races super stock and broke his ZX10r in on the dyno and he's been racing it just fine for several years. Riding with some spirit (as he did) exposes the engine to shifting under load and helps smooth the internals better than low rpm cruising exclusively.

Perhaps the most annoying thing I hear on so many reviews is how the liter bikes are too much for everyone to handle. They don't make sense on the road. Then don't buy the damn things if you feel this way. I love liter bikes and frankly find the mid range bikes to be boring. Perhaps it's because I've been riding most of my life, who really knows? I don't like limitations and the mid range bikes are too limited. The same thing can be said about a Corvette, Porsche or Ferrari but I don't hear people complaining about those.

@@PetroHead My point is quite simple. Neither is needed. It's not about a need it's about a want in both circumstances. I wasn't talking about the obvious differences in safety, with cars having a seatbelt/airbags etc. All those things go without saying for any bike, from a 250cc to a 1000cc sport bike, you can die just the same. But since you brought it up, plenty of people die in sports cars every year as well, from excessive speed/inexperience and so on. Paul Walker is an unfortunate example. My point is at least 80% of these reviews state at some point, "this is way more bike than I need or 99% of anyone will ever need." They often go on to talk about how a smaller bike would likely be more to their liking. Good, then go get a smaller bike. I'm more interested in hearing about the character of the power, reliability, recommended changes or if someone would even recommend the bike because of a problem with any of these issues. Then based on this, state "I'd recommend this for an intermediate, advanced or beginner rider," and let the consumer decide. So many manufacturers have abandoned development of their liter bikes and there is an overflow of small to mid range bikes that I find to be utterly boring. If people take their time to learn the bikes; perhaps take some track lessons, as well as road training courses and grow as a rider, there is a flare liter bikes offer that a 600cc bike cannot.

Gotcha. For road use I recommend the RSV4 for advanced riders and for the track, at least 20+ track days under your belt in advanced group. Watch my track content. Cheers.
