Dragonflies are probably my favorite insect, not just because they're beautiful, or because they can hover and fly fast, but also because they keep mosquito populations down.

Mosquitos itself keep their population down. There imposter mosquito that eats other mosquito larvas as larva and drink nectar as adult.

Same. I always have like 1 or 2 Dragonflies flying around outside and inside my house because they were looking for mosquitoes to eat. I’m glad that my grandma made me like dragonflies. Because we used to catch them when I was a kid before she passed away.

I'm 64 years old, and grew up on a farm. I spent a lot of time near ponds, streams and woods. I grew up seeing lots of Dragonfly's, but never went to the trouble of learning much about them or even their names until lately. I have been fortunate over the last few summers to be able to catch a few local varieties on Video. I Watched a documentary on them just yesterday, explaining their "Unique" body Design and flight Characteristics. One of Gods most "Amazing Creations" for sure. You have a lot of patience and love for nature. You invested a great deal of time, that will help more people to understand Dragonfly's. I really enjoyed this video! "Great Job"! 😊👍

They are of course still wild animals and have instincts driving them to do what nature bids them, but its kinda cool to see that they must have gotten desensitized to your presence and know you're not a threat, because as adults they just let you poke them and hold them. They have such complex eyes, I'm willing to believe they're smart enough to know you're their Giant Food Feeding Buddy.

I had a pet dragonfly that I named "Draggy" when I was younger. My father and I had found them when they had just crawled out of the water, and I decided to keep them. We had a screened in porch that I put Draggy on, and I spent lots of time out there holding them and even trying to "teach" them how to fly. I like to say that I successfully taught them how to fly haha. Eventually, I let Draggy go. They let me hold them as I walked through the house to go to the backyard, and wouldn't leave for a bit even when we were outside. I remember watching Draggy fly off into the distance, and I still think about them sometimes. I'll never forget you, Draggy! :)

Today I was at a swimming pool and was talking. I reached my hand out of the pool while I was talking and a dragonfly came and landed on my finger. He stayed on my finger for almost ten minutes. Then, he flew circles around me and followed me around while I was swimming. Whenever I would lift my hand he would come and land on my finger and stay for a long time. He would land, then turn around, lift his head and just look at me for several minutes. I never knew dragonflies were friendly like that. That was really exciting for that to happen. I learned something today.

Cool video. Gotta love the Dragonfly. You did a great job here so thanks for that and you brought back fond memories. My little brother and I used to go on adventures and bring home small creatures. Then I got older and had two sons and that was my excuse to get some nets, set up a fish aquarium and go out and get dirty and teach my boys how I was as a kid. Great fun. Then another period of time went by and my boys married and gave me 3 boys and a girl so we were off to the ponds, streams and lakes...I'm 63 now and I look forward to when my grand children come over again...I found a nice, large tank!

Wow, what a story. I have always loved seeing them, and this year I have had many visit my garden. I think you deserved everything you got from those animals, you worked hard, and they knew you as a safe place, and that is in it's self "amazing." Great work, and thank you for sharing.

Love the video!! I think next time, however, it might be wise to add some substrate at the bottom of the aquarium. Maybe some soil from the pond, as well as adding more plant matter from where you found the larvae. It would help create a healthier and more natural ecosystem for the dragonfly nymphs. :)

I used to live in Miami, USA, and one day while tending my plants I discovered one small dragonfly, it had a bluish body, then another one with yellow body and bigger, the next day an orange one, a black one, different colors and sizes in just one place and even with colored stripes on the winds. It was amazing, I did not know. They are beautiful

The way you take care of your pets is amazing, they have to hunt for their food and you leave them be in their natural processes so it's easier if they escape to nature and that's part of your plan, most people just feed their pets dead pieces of the food instead of leaving some way of having to work for it, causing them to have a 90% fatality rate if they ever to back to nature. Yes, I made that number up, but it's close to my observations.

when one simply _becomes_ the environment for an animal, i.e. providing food, water, just existing there with them every day of life, never hurting or threatening, you literally just become a part of the life of the animal. its the same with other creatures, like snakes/reptiles and various fish/crustaceans. it is a natural love and respect that all living beings share when one is truely in harmony with the animals around them... kinda like a princess story or some stuff lmfao but its true

How very interesting. I've seen dragonflies around the garden here sometimes in the summer, especially after any heavy rain...but I've never tried to engage with them. I think I will next time and see how it goes. I've been a Mantis mommy to quite a few different species of praying mantises with much success and just last night I temporarily adopted a honey Bee that was struggling to keep warm during a winter storm. She has her own warmed terrarium and later when it's safe she'll be released to the fruit tree which has many blossoms. It's always so amazing to see what each species is capable of doing and how they interact with people.

Dragonflies are INCREDIBLE. They hunt with a 95% success rate, making them by far the most formidable hunters on the planet! In comparison, the Peregrin Falcon, another amazing aerial hunter, only has a kill rate of 22%! With their incredible 360° vision, and 4 wings which they can each move independently, it's probably better for everyone that dragonflies aren't as large as small hawks anymore!😅😅🦟🐛 Thanks, Evolution!🎉

The whole video was absolutely fascinating to watch and it’s the first time I’ve ever seen how dragonflies evolve into adults on video!! My absolute favourite part is at 19:44 because that is the best up close shots of any insect I’ve ever seen in my entire life‼️ The 20,000 to 30,000 individual eyes up close with all the water droplets on top is amazing. Not to mention how the water droplets zoom into the individual eyes even more!!!😮 oh and phenomenal up close camera shot by the way! I’ve never seen such a good and clear photo of an insect in my life!! Keep up the great work.😅
