Just as an update: Now you can go to VFS Birmingham straight for passport surrender (after booking the appointment via HCI website) without going for renunciation at HCI Birmingham first. This rule has been changed from 5 August. I attended HCI appointment today and they asked me to go to VFS straightaway and wrote over the appointment confirmation "changed to passport surrender". So, in essence, you need to pay only £46.44 and not the additional fee of £70 with renunciation.

@ReelShortsTime I'm in the same boat. For now I've booked for renunciation. As you are already aware a 2nd booking on the site with the same passport number is allowed only post 1st appointment or within a day's time of the same. I plan to book for passport surrender appointment post renunciation. A total waste of time, have to take unnecessarily another day off. Wish they had allowed both appointments on the same day and made things easier.

Just to check that I have understood, you submitted both applications online on the same day. Then booked an appointment for renunciation at HCI, got the document, then made 2 sets and submitted both together at Vfs? I'm in Manchester so I need to travel to Birmingham first at HCI and then book an appointment at Vfs to submit both? The Vfs appointments don't show an option for RC appointment, just SC. Can you use the same SC appointment to submit both?

You have to attend HCI first at the appt time( as per online booking) and get a form signed.This form was actually provided to me by VFS as I attended VFS first by mistake.I guess it's also available at HCI. It's a simple 1 page form. You can only book 1 appointment online for HCI Birmingham, and no appt booking needed for VFS provided you are doing both on the same day. Please carry 2 copies of all supporting documents for the final submission.

@@swarna5892 You have to book another appointment if you are planning to visit VFS on another day. If possible ,try to get it done on the same day. Vfs Birmingham is just 15 mins drive from HCI and we could get both done together. The form is part of the renounciation application but it's not available online. Vfs centre provided it to me on the day.

1. Yes, you need the signature. 2. Payment receipt is an option but your OCI will be issued after your renounciation is completed. So it's better to wait for renounciation and then apply.

Get the British passport first. Once you have the UK passport with you, then apply for surrender / renounciation.

It took approx 2 months to receive the certificate. You dont need renounciation certificate nowadays.

It's illegal to possess an Indian passport after getting a British passport. You can't travel using it. So what's the point of keeping it? You still need Indian visa to travel to India.so having OCI card is much better option

The passport surrender fee is £46.44 as of November 2024, which includes both VFS and government fees. 3. A separate renunciation of citizenship application is not required. I only booked one appointment with the Birmingham consulate. Vfs didn't ask for an appointment as I went there on the same day.surrender certificate came within 1 week. Still waiting for renounciation certificate. You basically need the whole day to attend both the places and submit both forms.I am waiting for both to start OCI application.
