Wow never seen a video on Grammy voting this candid.

Well damn, this video was highly educational. I have never watched someone actually breakdown the voting process and I have never took the time to really understand the whole grammy process. I do think more people who actually have that experience in music should apply for a voting position to make the changes that needed. I mean, if you believe in something cold-heartedly, you have to put in that work. (Side-note) "can you image getting a managzine from billboard and all it is, is nothing but stats from every artist imaginable that year" 🤣😂

Great video and basically you have to do the work to get where you want to be.

Didnt know about the limitations. I think that might actually effect the outcome more than anything. That's probably why you have so many great genre-blending songs get snubbed. You get put in a box, let's say rock, but you have just as much jazz and roots in your sound, meanwhile the voters are focusing in on the rock sound and might dislike jazz and roots 🤷♂️. All the reason why the Grammys and especially other awards need to stop putting Black artists in this rap box/bubble even if it's not rap

Please I need an answer, can an artist submit 2 albums in 2 different genres in same year?

You have to admit Cardi B should never of won, Travis 100% deserved that. And how the Weeknd didn’t even get a nomination, just proves it is corrupt. It’s all subjective
@DeepSongBuilders3 жыл бұрын
Yeah anything that is based on judgement is subjective. You never know what’s on a voter’s mind on any particular day and in this case you don’t know which voters will even show up to vote.

Well I think the process is bullshit. Music needs to connect with the people, and that needs to decide what is great music! The Weeknd’s last album connected to such a wide audience in such an unique way and high level, keeping both the art and the big audience. Not everyone can do that. Cardi B in 2018 for example didn’t deserve that grammmy for multiple reasons and the biggest of it all is that she has been marketed as a character wrapped as an artist, and that became her succes. It was so obvious that it felt almost insulting to make her win album of the year in 2018. And one last thing: if the songwriter gets te grammy for song of the year, why does the artist take te grammy? Why is it called song of the year if it is a grammy for the songWRITERS. Why cant they just simplify it for us as we are the PEOPLE that gives them views. Gotdamn the disconnect is realll between the head of the Grammy conpany and the actual people. Damn

The billboard awards reflects chart success. McDonalds serving 99 billion people proves it connect w/people but it doesn’t mean that it’s because they make the best hamburgers. No system is perfect especially one that depends on people showing up & doing something responsibly. I think the people who voted for Cardi’s lp weren’t the hip hop heads who care about whether she’s a writer or not. They were probably fans of another genre who heard her lp and were more entertained by it than by the competition. Voters who care gotta show up & I know plenty of black voters & hip hop connoisseurs who don’t bother to vote in years where they don’t have a dog in the fight. The Weeknd is a messed up situation this year, I think he got lost in the genre/race problem. He did a pop album & should’ve been nominated in those categories but b/c he’s black so his team submitted him to the R&B categories. The R&B heads probably took issue w/the pop sound and voted for the acts that more sonically fit that description while the pop crowd saw him as black and didn’t give him enough votes to beat out Harry Styles, Bieber, Gaga, Lipa or Swift for the spot he deserved. Human error, stuff gets messed up. Also, the songwriters do take the stage for song of the year, public probably just doesn’t recognize them as much as the artist who always seems to be a co-writer anyway.

The artist only gets the Song of the Year Grammy if they have a songwriting credit on the song. And if they have co-writers, than all the co-writers get a Grammy. It's possible sometimes the artist didn't contribute much to earn that songwriting credit (I guess that's how a lot of people feel about Cardi) but the Grammys don't have an observer in every songwriting room to judge that, so they can only go by the official songwriting credits that the song is registered with.
