Surely every birdhouse made out of pallet wood must sell for hundreds of dollars/pounds. KZbin wouldn't lie to me.

I guess we'll never know for sure - but it definitely seems unrealistic - at least from my experience! Hope you're all good and the dog lead/coat hangers are still moving well!!

😅 I’ve tried a few KZbin pallet projects and the thing that sold the most was boot jacks/shoe pullers 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m trying to get into woodworking and I’m enjoying both of your guys channels

Just move to America where everybody has a house full of $3,000 pallet wood coffee tables and 6 million Charcuterie Boards. Land of milk and honey bro!

Ok, I'll share. Last year I built the Matthew Peech farmhouse planters. I sold a total of 7 for $45 each. It doesn't sound like much but I only built 6 and I sold them all. The 7th was a commission for a double planter. I did it as an experiment like yours, so for me it was a success. I know, those are more complicated than what you were building so it's kind of apples to oranges. And most of those videos are BS, but not all of them. Great video! And you got a new subscriber.

Hi Alex, I sell on ETSY and nothing sold until the agrorithm got hold... I have sold loads of Cat and Starwars phone holders in Oak and Ebonising too. It just takes time and Quality and as you say Unique sells xx

@@Greyotterstudio it’s been a mixed bag. FB Marketplace seems saturated. I’ve sold a few phone holders and charcuterie boards at market stalls but seem to have got more interest in custom orders for signs. I’m going to give it a bit of time and see if it grows a little.

I hear you alex. I’ve spent thousands on American marketing get rich easy Mumbo Jumbo. For most of us the truth is hard work doesn’t pay most of the time, talent neither. But integrity does pay dividends and you clearly have a lot of that! I’ll be watching and learning from you as I go. Keep up the great content!

Yup, I've tried Etsy, renting space in a flea market (called itself a craft emporium but was chock full of charity store junk) and a craft fair. I sold zero at the first two and didn't quite cover the cost of the craft fair table, in total I ended up down a few hundred pounds. Product choice, location, pricing, marketting and opportunity are all variables that start-up sellers will need to navigate, and I couldn't justify further raiding the family budget to prop up my failing enterprise so I called it a day. It sounds like your secret stools are gathering traction so I wish you good luck with those and hope your business grows. And of course the 'big lie' of the popular 'Get rich from pallet wood' YT content makers is that they are already popular and hence have an established market, and an established side hustle income. Fair play to them, growing a channel requires huge dedication, but it does create false expectations for viewers. So all the more credit to you for telling it like it is! 😊

Yes, sometimes it feels like only way to sell these days is by creating an online persona! Sorry to hear your fairs didn’t go brilliantly, I do hope you’re still making some sawdust, even if just for fun!

@@Greyotterstudio I didn't lose more than I could afford and I did come out wiser, so not a bad result. Yes, I'm still creating shavings, and enjoying it far more without the worry of whether the next item will sell. I'm lucky that the day job pays enough, so being able to go back to woodworking being a relaxing hobby is a welcome relief. Yup, a happy ending overall 🙂

Could not agree with your opinion more. I'm utterly baffled by the big views these "Beginner Projects that Sell," "Turn Free Pallet Wood into $500," etc etc type videos get. Are viewers that gullible? Cheap materials + basic design = no sales, or at least a whole lot of effort with not a lot of payoff if you do sell. The singular thing that distinguishes an aspiring seller v. someone who does sell on a regular basis is simply design. As you mention, subtle additions make a huge difference for buyers. Don't over complicate a product, but distinguish that product from competitors. Cheers from Spokane, WA

Exactly this, and hey - if anyone is managing to sell this stuff in its most basic format then I'm happy for them and wish them all the best! But in my experience, giving a product your own subtle twist seems to make a huge difference! Thanks for the comment and view, feel free to stick around for future videos!

love the video. Dont like the results , sorry that your items didnt sell. Its tough out there for this type of thing. That said, the stool looks lovely. And 10 sales is really good at £39 each. Cant wait to see the build.
