These islands have stong business relations with Australia/NZ, so they shifted time zones from UTC-11/UTC-10 to UTC+13/UTC+14 (essentially keeping the same time but advancing a day) to make trade relations easier (same weekdays/weekends as their main business partners, so banks would open and close together).
