UPDATE: 8/13/2023 - According to a commenter, setting your Power Settings to High Performance may cause your CPU to constantly run at higher clock speeds. If you do change this setting, I would monitor your CPU vitals and make sure that it's behaving properly. I have never experienced this but it may depend on the system. ------------------------------------- Hey dudes! Thank you so much for tuning in to the video. I have compiled the ultimate list for the PROPER steps, AFTER you finish building your PC or if you bought a prebuild / 2nd hand PC. If you feel there is anything that needs to be corrected or added, please let me know by leaving a comment below. If you have any questions or concerns, please comment down below. I hope you enjoy the video and thanks for the support. A few things to keep in mind about this tutorial: - This tutorial is assuming that your PC build was successful, you have Windows installed on the computer, and you know how to access your BIOS. If you are having issues with your build or anything else, I will do my best to try and help you diagnose what the issue may be. - This video was shot on a Windows 10 machine, so Windows 11 processes may be slightly different. I wanted to originally do it on a Windows 11 machine but, as of March of 2023, 73% of people are STILL using Windows 10. - Your motherboard may and will differ from mine, and therefore some of the instructions may be different for you. Keep your motherboard manual close or download a digital copy from the manufacturer of your board. - When it comes to ANY of the settings mentioned, When in doubt, Google your motherboard brand and model, and you'll find it. 1) After you are done building your PC and have installed Windows, boot into the BIOS. Check CPU temp, if it's climbing and climbing, this could indicate a problem. Most CPU's will idle between 25c-50c, really depends on the CPU and the cooling you have. If you confirm that the CPU temp is not staying stable and rising, then I would shut off the machine and check for: - That the CPU cooler is properly seated or incorrect accessories used - Thermal paste application is incorrect. - AIO pump is not turning on. - Although unlikely to cause high CPU idle temps, I would check all fan orientations and proper function of the fans. 2) Now that you've verified the CPU temp is stable, it is time to tackle some of the BIOS settings. The first one we are going to look at is your RAM/memory settings. By default, your RAM will be set to the defaulted speed, we need to enable XMP/DOCP in the BIOS. Here are the instructions for doing so: AMD and Intel Systems: - Enter the tweaker section of your BIOS. You should see XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) or DOCP ( Direct Overclocking Profile ). - Change from Disabled to Enabled or PROFILE 1. This will overclock your RAM (safely) to the max level that is advertised with your RAM. 3) Resizable bar opens up your GPU to the system, allowing the PC to take advantage of your entire GPU, and can equate to some big performance gains: AMD/Intel Systems with NVIDIA GPU's (3xxx series and above): - Navigate to Resizable bar and ENABLE it, or set it to AUTO. Some motherboards will enable the next setting mentioned below by enabling resize bar. Check to make sure-> - Navigate to 4G encoding and ENABLE it, it's usually stored in the IO section your the BIOS settings. - Navigate to CSM Support under the BOOT tab, and DISABLE it. - Open NVIDIA Control panel and select SYSTEM INFORMATION in the bottom left corner. Check to see if Resize bar says YES or NO. If no, continue: - The VBIOS of your GPU will need to be updated to support resize bar. This can be done by going to the support page for your GPU and downloading and installing the latest BIOS update. Google your specific GPU and you should easily find it. If your GPU has a dedicated program (ASUS Tweak, MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision X1), you can do it through this program. Check to see if your GPU has it's own program AMD/Intel Systems with AMD GPU's: - Navigate to your advanced tab -> PCIe subsystem settings and enable ABOVE 4G ENCODING - Set Resize bar support to AUTO. - Under your BOOT tab, set CSM Compatibility is DISABLED - Update your VBIOS for your GPU, see last note in the NVIDIA GPU section above. - In AMD Radeon software, go to TUNING, and at the bottom, you will see AMD Smart Access Memory, and make sure it is enabled. 4) Check your boot priority and hard drives. Make sure the correct drive is your boot drive and all of your hard drives are being recognized. It's very rare, but you may need to enable them in the BIOS. You will still need to initialize the disks, but that is later on in this tutorial and it covered. 5) Set your fan curves. Within the BIOS, you will see a fan curve option, click it and set your fan curves how you want them. There are preset ones you can choose from OR you can set a custom fan curve. Normal will be selected by default so this doesn't HAVE to be checked, but I would know how to do it. Fan controller users will most likely use software attached to controller Save and Exit from the BIOS to boot into Windows... 6) Updating Windows, motherboard drivers, and your GPU drivers. Windows: - Search for "Check for Updates" in the search box on your taskbar. Download and install ALL applicable updates. System will restart multiple times and may take awhile. Motherboard drivers: - Google your motherboard make and model (Example: Gigabyte AORUS Elite X570), click and search for the support/downloads page. - Download ALL applicable updates through the support page. This will include: BIOS, Chipset, LAN, WiFi, SATA, and others. Some motherboards offer a program that can be downloaded to do these for you, usually located in the UTILITY tab of the support page GPU Drivers: - Google your exact GPU with the term drivers (Example: RTX 3080 drivers). This will take you to NVIDIA's OR AMD's website. - From their dropdowns, select your exact make and operating system, and download - Install GPU drivers. Your system will most likely flicker while the install is happening - Restart once done 7) Windows Settings: Display Settings: - Right click on the desktop and select Display settings, drag and drop your monitors in the "Rearrange your Displays" section to have you have them set up on your desk. - Adjust the scale and layout percentage. - Changing refresh rate: Click on advanced display settings down below. In the drop down menu, select a monitor. Scroll down and change the refresh rate to the HIGHEST number possible, do this for EACH monitor. Power and Sleep Settings - Navigate to System and Power and Sleep in Windows settings. At the top, you are going to select when you want your SCREEN to go to sleep, and when you want your PC to go to sleep - After that, on the right hand side, click additional power settings and choose the power plan that makes the most sense for you. Mouse Settings - Navigate to Devices and mouse in Windows settings. Set your cursor and scroll speed. If you have any type of gaming mouse, do this in the software that comes with the mouse ( Example: Logitech uses the program G-Hub) - Click on Additional Mouse settings and click the pointer options tab at the top - Uncheck the Enhance Pointer Precision setting. Task bar Settings - Right click on your taskbar and select settings. - You can set which monitor it's on, or what side of the monitor it's on, and tons of other options. Setting up storage-drives - Right click on your start menu and select DISK MANAGEMENT. If you have storage drives that are not set up, it will prompt you to initialize the disk. Make sure all drives are checked and click OK - All the drives with a BLUE bar are ready to go, and all the ones with the BLACK bar need to be set up - On the drives with a black bar, right click and select NEW SIMPLE VOLUME. Go through all the prompts, click OK - The partition for each drive should extend all the way to the right. If it DOES NOT, right click on the drive and select EXTEND VOLUME. 8) Installing software needed for peripherals and PC components. - Some or all of the components in your PC have software that is tied to them. This can include your fans, fan controller, AIO, GPU, CPU, RAM, and motherboard - Search for and download all of the one applicable to YOUR machine. - Download and install programs for your mouse, keyboard, headset, and any other accessories you may have. - Various settings can be changed in all of these programs including fan curves, pump speed, mouse DPI, etc! - These program will also be used to keep these components up to date! 9 )Benchmarking your system. You are going to want to fully test your system now. Download and install software to test your system and monitor temps: Benchmarking: - OCCT - For CPU, GPU, RAM, Power www.ocbase.com/ - Cinebench R23 - For CPU www.maxon.net/en/downloads/cinebench-r23-downloads - Heaven 4.0 - For GPU benchmark.unigine.com/heaven Run benchmarks on each one, check for errors (in OCCT) and check temps! If temps are too high, investigate and make changes. Monitoring: - HWinfo64 - ALL PC vitals www.hwinfo.com/download/ - MSI Afterburner - GPU temps, overclocking, on screen displays (display vitals while IN game) www.msi.com/Landing/afterburner/graphics-cards - Run benchmarks on each one, check for errors (in OCCT) and check temps! If temps are too high, investigate and make changes as needed! 10) Download all the programs you want! See description!

Majority of you guys (including me) shouldn't use High Performance under Power Settings unless you want your CPU to be locked at its highest clock speed constantly. Balance setting allows it to not run at its highest unless needed for applications.

Dan have you used OpenRGB for managing RGB settings? It supports most hardware and makes it way easier to have one piece of software controlling it instead of installing 4 different bloatware software (it also works on Windows and Linux). Curious what you think of it, it requires a lit bit of setup for more complex lighting (more than just simple color changes - eg: temperature based lighting etc), but its a very neat tool. Also kinda surprised you're on Windows 11, Windows 11 experience sucks in my experience so far (have to use it for work). The only reasons to switch from Win 10 imo are as follows: 1) Windows 10 support ends, 2) Dark Mode Task Manager, 3) Direct Storage API However, the UX experience is so bad compared to Win10 and I can't stand using it. That said I would still recommend people just use linux instead, if you're new to linux, Linux Mint is a great gateway to linux land if you're used to using windows and makes it a fairly simple fix and is intuitive to setup. Too bad I never see these kinds of tutorials for linux lol, but I guess the assumption is that if you figured out how to install linux you know what you're doing already.

1st build seemed successful at the start. Got into bios and adjusted ram settings, but when I tried the usb install of windows 11 I get display port errors and the monitor goes into sleep mode. Even with the usb not plugged in anymore.

Hello. Newbie here and want to throw my pc out the window and buy that 400$ prebuilt Amazon micro comp. My problem. Don’t have windows installed yet and I am stuck on reboot press key cycle. I think I got here because my when first boot and had to press the F# + DEL key it wasn’t doing anything so I pressed Y and it sent me to the error. I can get into bios and it reads everything I have including the m.2 SSD but still the error. Need help on where to go. Gonna get a usb and download windows tomorrow on it and plug it in before start up and hopefully that fixes it.

What are you using for cooling? As far as cooler and fans. Give me your full setup ( fan orientation and everything. 100c is right at throttling for that Intel CPU so it’s definitely a bit high

Its a 5 year old pc from which i only upgraded the Gpu and added the SSD. I feel I'm ok playing lies of p on mid.
