Lived here all my life! Yes it's kind of boring but affordable all the way around! We have jetski's and go out of town on the weekends a lot. But love coming back home!🏡

I moved to Omaha just over 5 years ago from upstate NY and gotta say my wife and I love love it here. While I know you guys think property taxes are high here try living in central NY. Property taxes are crazy high and they regulate you to death. Thanks for this channel David, I enjoy your videos. 😀

Dave, Obviously we have met, but I did not learn until recently you had this wonderful KZbin channel. I love it! Wish I had been aware of it before we moved over here. That said, we are really happy living in Omaha and look forward to exploring more of the city!

Grew up in Omaha and living in DFW, Texas now. Gosh I miss Omaha. Texas doesn't have an income tax, but its got comparable property taxes, worse summers, and the endless concrete sprawl and traffic is horrible. Hopefully, I'll be back home in a few years.

Call a roofer and trust they'll be honest about what they see? I might test that with a roof that I know is in good repair because it's been recently replaced. And/or ask them to very specifically show me what they've found.

The tax thing is legit. 4500 k sales tax on a new car. Property js nasty too. This state has one of the worst tax burdens in the country. That info is readily available btw.

Quality of life here is overall okay. Taxes are terrible, drivers are worse. This isn't an expensive state compared to some, but it is very quickly rising, mostly in taxes. Were building shoddy "custom" home neighborhoods like never before. Anyone who has lived here for the last decade will tell you how much it has exploded and with that, how much traffic has exploded. Our roads and highways weren't built for this kinda traffic, there is so much bottlenecking intersections it's insane. Insurance is a joke, homelessness is rising, we have at will employment, which there are laws to prevent random firings but you have to FIGHT for it. So it's okay, but it needs to improve. I have lived here my entire life, but I am a step away from uprooting and moving to Iowa like a lot of my family has done.

No. The only real options are 1) increase density to lessen the cost of services (cheaper to run road, utilities, etc. to an apartment building than suburbs) 2) decrease the quality or quantity of services provided or 3) find another source of revenue like other states do whether that's from tourism dollars, taxing agriculture/corporations, etc. Bringing in more people isn't going to change anything.

@@user-pn8ke3kf5f turning existing renters into property tax payers wouldn't involve bringing in more people, would it? Turning existing property tax payers into renters might not be helpful? To some degree?

@@user-pn8ke3kf5f and factor in that renters pay a share of the owners tax through their rent... It's just that each renter might stand to ultimately pay more property tax if they weren't renting... Possibly? And were each directly paying property tax of their own..some more than their current share.
@user-pn8ke3kf5f
@user-pn8ke3kf5f Ай бұрын
@@rileychadwell5635 That math doesn't check out. If you look at studies, what you want is DENSE housing. Trading people renting in dense multi-family units into homeowners in single family suburbia is a loss of taxes. It's insanely expensive to run city services to sprawling single family homes compared to dense housing like apartments, condos, multi-family units, etc.

Old market is full of homeless people. After redoing the park they increased police downtown a lot. Plenty of suicides from the new walking bridge into a river that is pretty much 100% of death. Hope your car doesnt break down near downtown, Those catalytic converters will be gone. Maybe omaha was decent back in 2017 and below due to the cost of living but now prices have doubled and honestly can't say its worth it. Used to have a home in west omaha, One of the nicest places in omaha for 1100 a month for rent. That same place is now well over 2k. The house was only worth maybe 140k-150k cookie cutter build and is now worth a 350k to 450k for that area. Rent of my current home used to be 800 and now is worth $1,600 in just 2 years.

Sadly right now Omaha is making poor public policy decisions. They are increasing property values sending up property tax rates. Thankfully, the governor did something to stop this in the future. The City just awarded a $26Mn TIF to NuStyle to redevelop a building on 15th street. Sure, it is great to get things back in commerce. However, NuStyle has been jacking up rates and developing other properties with zero concern for affordability. Plus, most people in Omaha HATE downtown; so, did the City just subsidize Creighton housing? Throw in the horrid way people drive here along with the absolute refusal of bike and lime riders to use the street rather than the sidewalk and Omaha's livability right now is in decline. Move here right now to get a feel for how great this city was and could have been. But, in 3-5 years be prepared to pull up stakes and move on.

When I first moved to Omaha, it was the downturn of the 2008 market crash, and just a week priori I found out my wife of 14 loving years had died in a crash. My life was absolutely over, until I decided to go onto the open road and just started driving. I honestly don't know where I was headed, I was way to drunk to function, but as I stopped in Kanas city, the man in the stall next to mine gave me the answer. Omaha, NE, and that's where I headed next. I'm now living happily on the side of the street on 27th and Cumings st, getting high every day heckling drivers for my next high.
