For state #33 in our journey to all 50 states in a year, we made our way to Nebraska! We only had one day to explore the Cornhusker State, so we focused our time on the largest city… Omaha! And while it is the largest city in the state, it’s not exactly the Manhattan of the Midwest. Don’t worry though, we managed to keep ourselves busy and entertained! From the excellent coffee at Archetype Coffee to the delicious Reuben Sandwich at Crescent Moon (home of the original Reuben Sandwich) to the world-class Henry Doorly Zoo to a bridge named “Bob”, we made the most of our short time in this midwest metropolis!

Love your guys energy! Subscribed to watch more adventures! As a Native of Omaha I have to point out one small detail that is easy to overlook not being from the area. The Crescent Moon Ale House (Awesome place) doesn't claim to be where the Rueben was invented (since it's only been around since 1996 I think, It was concocted at the Blackstone Hotel (Which is now the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel) which you actual look like you're standing in front of around the 14:15 mark of your video or so. Rueben Kulakofsky owned a grocery store and used to play weekly poker games at the hotel and asked for the ingredients to be assembled together for a sandwich. Hope you enjoyed Omaha! Omaha native here and an SOB (South Omaha Boy) and that is the story of the Reuben I know as well. I don't go downtown for nightlife so it was interesting to see a few things I wasn't aware of. It is impossible to capture Omaha, & NE in a day if you spend most of that time at our zoo because that is an all day stop by itself. AS we sit here in February I will add the zoo is great even during Winter as there is so much to do that is inside, & close together. You can hit the Jungle, Desert Dome/kingdom of the Night, Aquarium, & the Mutual of Omaha building all without being outside for over five minutes. I have nine kids, & the zoo is amazing for getting "outside" when we have cabin fever. There is nothing like the humidity of the jungle, or the heat of the desert to help brighten your mood.

Fellow resident of Omaha, may I recommend to you to get Runza's? I love ranch on most things including Pizza, so whatever you want don't knock it till you try it, Run makes the best ranch🤩!!!! Literally my favorite restaurants.

Not just one park, two other big connected parks in the downtown, and the new mutual of Omaha skyscraper and street carc route, as well as landscaped bridges to connect neighborhoods. Omaha is ditching the car centric vision of other cities and become a pedestrians paradise.

Being from Omaha our zoo is definitely one of the best. The best thing about being local is having a zoo pass because it can take the whole day to see every single thing Henry Doorly has to offer. My family has made it our mission to go to the top 10 zoos in the US. We've been to six including the top 4 and personally non of them compare to our zoo. (PS the old sea lion exhibit used to be a public swimming pool!) I hope you guys went through the passage way in the Old Market!! The Gene Leahy Mall used to be beautiful especially at Christmas. It's so sad that they removed the sunken River and waterfall. I'm just glad they decided to keep the iconic slides.

Totally agree. Gene Leahy Mall was awesome! I miss the Christmas lights there and even other times of the year. Aksarben is very beautiful during Christmas though, as is midtown crossing down at 30th & Dodge/ Farnam.

You can spend an entire day walking that zoo and still miss things, it's definitely a ton of walking and the hills are insane! Taking a stroller/wagon through there is quite the workout 🤣

Yes, contrary to popular belief we actually have running water and electricity in Nebraska. We even hosted the U.S. Olympic Swim Trials in 2021 in which I had the esteemed privilege to perform the National Anthem in front of Michael Phelps ✌️🇺🇸

The Reuben was invented in the Blackstone hotel, across from the crescent moon. Also, it definitely takes all day to get through our zoo. The old market is a hit and miss, definitely can get weirder at night... Honestly, you guys did a really good job covering MY city.

The Bob Kerry Bridge is the only pedestrian only bridge that crosses a state border. That is its only a pedestrian bridge. It was not built to carry vehicles and have a pedestrian section.

Fun peek at Omaha. I wondered what Inner Rail was, and I live here! 😉 You’ll have to check out Lauritzen Gardens next time and Midtown Crossing during Jazz on the Green Festival in July. Lots of nice wineries nearby. One just south of Omaha is Soaring Wings with a great vista of the surrounding countryside. Enjoy your year of traveling the great USA!

Best zoo ever!! I love Omaha and Lincoln. So glad you were able to visit. The Riverfront Park turned out beautiful. The City has an amazing vibe during the College World Series. Next time you visit Nebraska, head over to Lincoln. Beautiful University town and State Capital. I moved to Omaha from a big city and I find the size to be just right.

A few fun facts about the zoo: 1) The Desert Dome has different levels of glass tint depending on height. This is to help regulate temperatures so it isn't too hot in the Summer and lets in more sunlight in the Winter to help heat the area. 2) Beneath the Dome, in the Kingdoms of the Night exhibit, if you look closely in the corners you'll see spotlights. These are turned on at night to simulate daytime and flip the animals' circadian rhythms so they are active during the day (There aren't any windows so how would they know) when people are there. 3) The Scott Aquarium is entirely open topped. The reason you can't see anybody up there is because they have extra vents from the A/C that blows lightly on the water to make a bunch of ripples. Every animal that gets introduced to the aquarium goes through a minimum 30 day quarantine before being introduced to the exhibit tanks. 4) In the gorilla exhibit, the small, child level domes were originally meant to be open so kids could shake hands with the gorillas. Partway through construction, someone realized that letting a 400Lb animal grab a child was probably a bad idea. So they put in the plastic domes instead.

I live in Omaha didn't even know about the food place. I give animal talks in the Summer at our great zoo. We have the best zoo in the world. The baby 🦒 was born on my bday 7.31.21. PS you didn't miss much on Buffets house. I went to school with his one of his Sons named Peter. The house on the South side of Dodge St is kinda unnoticeable. Not a tourist attraction. You drove by the best doughnuts around on 10th st from the zoo to the Old Market. Hole-in-the-wall called Tom Olsen doughnuts.

I wish this couple met up with a local for the unique attractions aside from the zoo. Ted and Wally's has some of the best icecream in town with in the Benson and in the Old Martket(Down town). Don't forget our music venues! Goth night is always fun and it gives you a chance to dress up. Omaha is not just about eateries. We also have fashion week once a year which is fun when it's not run by the conservative crowd. As for the skaters, we also have a few skate parks in town. If you want a nice park to hike in, I'd visit Hummel Park. After the hike you can see the Mormon Trail and Eat at Harold's Diner in the Florence area.

Try the 360 steakhouse in the top of Harrahs casino. It over looks all of downtown omaha and Iowa. One of the coolest places to eat or Surfside over looking the river with a pull up boat dock

There's another place here in Omaha that makes INSANELY good Reubens called Schlotsky's deli (sorry Crescent Moon, yours kiiiiiinda dipped in the last few years) if you guys make it back here make sure you stop at the Ethnic Sandwich shop you took a video of. I'm just sad you guys missed out on the Bohemian Cafe 😕 There are SO many places you guys would have LOVED LOL Although, the funny thing about the zoo is even though I lived literally less than mile away for almost 10 years...I haven't been there since 1988, no joke lol if you guys come back make sure you pick up a Runza from Runza, a Philly cheese steak from Pepperjax and a Cheese Frenchie (deep fried grilled cheese sandwich which is PHENOMENAL) from Don and Millie's bfor a fastfood fix lol seriously thank you for putting such a WONDERFUL spotlight on the city I call home.

The rail has always been a miss for me. We have do many restruants around that its okay to skip that one. Maybe next time go for falafel, indian food, or even food truck friday in the summer. We truly have it all here food wise of course. Now if we could get a cheeky nados!! I live in the bensen area which is also a great area for food in Omaha. Really you can't go wrong. Sorry you missed the Ted and Wally's though best ice cream ive ever had.

Located not far from Offutt AFB is a place called "Stellas".....If you want one of the best burgers you've ever had, that's the place. Also Dinkers as well. If you have time to make the drive to the SAC museum (which used to be located near base but now outside of town) I'd highly recommend for anyone enlisted or their family. Top 3 in US. Hope you enjoy!

You missed out on quite alot of places to shop & eat at in Omaha, NE & Council Bluffs, IA. There was a flea market on 136th & Q called Mega Market (lots of entitled & rude people really pissed off the owners that they closed their store a few months back). Recommend checking out Junk N' Treasures on 36th & Leavenworth, New Life Thrift on 36th & Q st, & Community Of Christ Thrift Store in Council Bluffs, IA. For food check out Romeo's Mexican Restaurant, Summer Kitchen, Hog Wild BBQ (when they beef brisket chili in season), China Buffet off i80 & highway 370. If you don't mind the drive, check out the restaurant with a bowling alley (don't remember the name) in Mindin, iowa with a butcher shop across the parking lot half a block away, they cook dinner plate size pork tenderloins & it is very good

Sadly you all went to all the wrong food places :( Omaha has amazing food. You would of had a much better experience in Blackstone or Benson instead of Bohemia. Blackstone having the original Nolis that is unquestionably better then the one that is in inner rail. Thank you though for trying to represent Omaha in a positive light. The rest of the county loves to assume we are nothing but hicks and cornfields...couldn't be further from the truth.
