I thought Sony said that all games from previous consoles you've owned Dignity can be played and for PS One and Two the console will recognize the disk and if you're logged into PSN you can download the game at the free version.

You forgot one step. It will play the X-Box games, but you have to put in the correct date code. Set the clock to June 6th, 2006 and it will work.

Nintendo optical media is not written using any universal standard, but using Nintendo's proprietary standard. It's why ripping Wii and Wii-U games (and GC as well) requires the console unless you have one of only a few specific DVD-ROM models that are supported for ripping Wii and GC games, since they require a custom firmware to support the Wii/GC optical media format. XBox games also have a video track that's recognized by all DVD players - including the PS5. And it seems like the 360 game also has a video track, but probably a blank one, which is why it didn't do anything. No surprise it couldn't read the HD-DVD. And same with the PC game, since that's a data disc so it probably wouldn't have popped up anything unless it found something it could play.

only time i have seen any cases when disk from wrong system has been "working" on another, has to be how PS1 version of GTA 1 an boot up the original PC release of the game. though then most likely that PS1 disk had not much to do with the actual pc game, but rather the pc version copy protection only checked the disk header info. funny part however was that due to the old pc's not having ton of space in them, so often things like in game music was streamed from the disk instead. That was the case here too, and the track numbers did not match up between the two versions. so it caused things like Police radio playing in a random pickup truck and country music playing on a sporty "Corvette". other than that it worked just fine.

When you register the disc drive to the console you dont ever want to change the disc drive to another console like say the slim. As long as you dont change the disc drive from console to console you can play games offline, like Spider-Man! 2, GoWR, HFW ect ect.

Its a shame that the ps5 compatibility is just crap compared to xbox which somehow managed to get as much xbox 360 games as possible to modern xbox consoles while still allowing you to play games you own on xbox one.. Meanwhile, we have to pay AGAIN for ps2 games to play the game rather than using the disc to download and play..

In order to play CDs the disc drive should also have a red LED, it was the same crap with the PS3 where they had to put both the red and blue LED in order to read CDs/DVDs and DVDs/BDs, because of the PS1/2 backwards compatibility. Which is actually pretty simple to do nowadays in the factories. But nooo... screw our CDs and other older physical media types...

But the settings also serve as timestamps for the game saved data. I wonder what would happen if you saved a game, took out the battery and tried to load said game. Would the game load as normal or would the system determine the clock doesn't match the date ( same day or after) therefore it would refuse to load. The only games I know that actually used the clock features are: MGS 3 Snake eater on PS2. You could cheat the clock to beat a boss fight lol. Final Fantasy Type 0. It has a feature where you can leave a character to gain XP when not playing for a maximum of so many hours per day ( don't remember the exact figures), but it was a way to cheat the game. Put a character to train then leave the game, change the date and go back. Rinse and repeat till you are satisfied with the level. Fable. Had a landlord system to collect passive income in the game.

You know watt i find hilarious. Sony the guys that worked on the most life changing physical Audio format in the world builds a console that can not play a CD... yet they invented it in 1982. The ps5 is not capable of playing an Audio CD as a matter of fact, the consoles have not been able to play CDs since the invention of the PS4 but for some reason microsoft their competition in every single iteration of every single console they have had (except the xbox series S because it does not have a disc drive) has been able to play a CD since the original Xbox all the way to the xbox series X as a matter of fact the xbox series X is amazing for this feature because it has watt i call the industry standard for the 3 musketeers, and those are the CD the DVD and the blu ray and even goes farther then that to include 4k bluray playback. WOW!
