PSP was awesome. Even though Sony didn't "win" against the DS (which itself was a great device), it still sold 80 million units and has a huge number of good games. I'm playing through Trails in the Sky SC as we speak. There are more PSP games on my list of games to play than PS5 games. Sony used to not be creatively bankrupt.

My top 3 game recommendations: • Fat Princess: Fistful of Cake This is exactly the same as the original PS3 game but with extra content - a longer campaign, more modes, and exclusive maps. Supposedly the online multiplayer servers are somehow still up but I haven’t been able to verify that myself. • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Like Fat Princess, this is a full port, albeit the PS2 version instead of 3, but I dare say this is the superior version of the game if you don’t care about graphics. Longer campaign, and extra modes outside of it including a PSP exclusive one, all in portable form. Only downside is no Dark Side ending DLC. • Coded Arms 1 This launch title was highly ambitious for its time. It’s an FPS with compromised controls, yes, BUT: it uses procedurally generated level design. I think it’s the only game on the platform to do anything like this. While the controls can be wonky, I’ve spent a lot of down time grinding this game. Honorable Mentions • Star Wars Battlefront 2 (on Vita is slightly better though) • Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (and Peace Walker of course) • Killzone: Liberation • Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines

My PSP experience for me is playing the _Assassins Creed: Bloodline,_ which is the most underrated entry of the series. Though, I never finished the game because the Witch boss battle used to scare me as a kid. Looking back, the Witch is not as scary than what my kid self made out to be, but she's definitely the toughest boss to beat (due to how freakishly fast she is and how cramped the room is), but at least I managed to finished the game last year (via on an emulator). That experience is such a fun rollercoaster ride.

I should point out, in relation to Galaga Arrangement in Namco Museum Battle Collection, one major new addition to the game that you didn't mention is that you can actually get two of your ships captured, and when you get both of them back, your ship gets a second more powerful transformation. There's quite a few different ship combinations you can get, such as combining two of the same type to get a more powerful version (like a 5 bullet spread or an even faster rapid-fire ship), or you can mix up two different ship types to get a more mixed combination (such as a rapid-fire spread shot or rapid-fire "super shot" as you put it). I think at least some people who play Galaga Arrangement on PSP don't even know that this mechanic exists (if a few longplays I've seen on KZbin of the game are anything to go by), and it's a shame since the different ship combinations and experimenting with them make the game a lot more fun to play in my opinion. It's honestly one of my favorite versions of Galaga and I tend to replay it quite often.

God Eater also has co-op up to 4 players and you can share avatars, so you can bring your friend's god eaters as npc to help you besides the main characters. Some other games I enjoyed where: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, alone or with friends, Ace Combat X2: Joint Assault which allowed to divide players into complete two different missions simultanously and had more aircraft customization than other ace combat games. Then, Killzone Liberation while being underrated for not being a first-person shooter, it felt like a metal gear solid game to me with the top-down camera, many challenges to unlock lots of upgrades, collectables to unlock more weapons and even upgraded versions of them and co-op up to 2 players.

At the time, I also enjoyed SFA3 Max, THPS Project 8, GTA VCS, NFS Carbon: Own the City, Mega Man X: Maverick Hunter, Ghost Recon: Predator, Tetris (EA), DBZ: Another Road, NBA Ballers Rebound, the list goes on and on. SSX On Tour is a personal PSP favourite. It's by no means a direct home console port, but it's really close to the home versions in terms of both visuals and core gameplay. Also has a fantastic selection of licensed music. Outrun 2006 is also a fantastic shout, in that it's still impressive to have a near-pixel-perfect port of a game designed for a considerably more powerful console (the original Xbox) on a portable console barely 2 years after the original Outrun 2 came out.

Midnight Club 3 was the first game in the series to feature licensed vehicles thst you can drive, it's technically not the first gsme to feature them entirely, as the first Midnight Club game had it's intro mostly shot in live action and featured 2 vehicles driven by teo members of the illegal street racing group Mischief. Heck, even the cover for the first game featured those two cars from the group. Also, another recommendation for the PSP being Split/Second Velocity, an almost One to One port of the console namesake, but using many aspects from the E3 and Beta versions of the game, including a new track that was once planned for Split/Second proper, but was scrapped.

While I love PSP games I really don't think that the PSP itself is the best way to play them. Putting aside all the other perks of emulation just being able to play the games with a proper analogue stick is often, and forgive the pun, a game changer. My PSP still gets use because I like to play UMD movies, it's weird that I don't like playing the games on the PSP hardware but do the movies. Top three games for me would be: Lunar the Silver Star. I actually kind of regret playing this version of the game first as its made it difficult to go back to the Mega-CD or Playstation versions, which I want to do in order to keep visual consistency with Eternal Blue. Lunar on the PSP is for me the definitive version of the game. Persona 3 Portable. While having the cut-scenes turned into text panels is a visual downgrade this is another game I think is better than the console version. The game on PS2 often felt like it was wasting my time but with P3P the simplifications made to the systems just make everything more fun for me as it is a bit more immediate. Plus having the option to have the female MC is a great one. The third spot is a tough one and I'm going to go with the 3rd Birthday simply because I don't want every game on this top three being a RPG. The 3rd Birthday is one of those games that just works better when played with a proper analogue stick.

I have very found memories of the PSP and a few of these games. There were so many basically better versions of DS games here and some decent console ports here. I would say I don't understand why certain multiplatform games came to DS, but not PSP, despite PSP being the more powerful system, but then I realize the smarter decision was usually on DS because that's where more of the money was. I used to think the PSP games didn't age as well, but really I think the handheld itself just has some issues these days, at least in my experience. I think aging has made things like the circle pad and the battery not be as good. And to answer a question about ATV Offroad Fury on PSP; yes, Pro is the better game than Blazin Trails. Pro is basically ATV OF 4, with some features taken out. But Blazin Trails is still a good one.

No mention of the Mega Man games? I'm pretty sure this is an actual crime.

They're still left out but I talk about why at the end of Part 2. Basically I'm aware those games are very good, but I don't own them. The level editor in Powered-Up looks fucking sick tho. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2S8nXxpgt-soassi=toEoj-hJVTvwd73c

Wouldn't doubt that, fun quirky game but a bit mechanically flawed imo. Frustrating in a bad way.

I'd really recommend including Ys: Oath In Felghana in the next video if you can. It's a great remake of the 2D original

Yeah that one's fire, I played it for a little bit when I reviewed Ark of Napishtim on my Channel. The only reason it's not on here is because I've played Seven more and I try not to recommend things I've played for under 4 hours

Not just that, but it's got some neat features that aren't in the original PC version. It's a really nice port, though it's also considerably easier than the original. The PSP version was used as the basis for the more recent currently-Japan-exclusive home console ports too (Switch last year, PS4 and PS5 last week).

@@PSPMan Personally, I consider it better than Ark Of Napishtim in multiple ways. That game's console versions were handled by Konami, and their port for the PSP was...uhh, kinda crap lmao

@@mortenera2294 Yeah we're on the same page dude, Ark of Napishtim's PSP port was horrible lol. I talked about Oath in that video cause it has very similar gameplay but runs correctly on PSP. Oath is on my list next to play in the Ys series, been finishing up Origin and Memories of Celceta on my Steam Deck.

No Monster Hunter Freedom Unite? Bah I'm so disappointed..

It's still left out, but I talk about why in Part 2. Basically I'm not familiar with the series and am just now getting into it with Generations Ultimate on Switch. Plus, people already know about Monster Hunter and the goal of my entries was to showcase games people weren't familiar with. It's the same reason none of the Persona games got mentioned (although I do recommend 3 Portable) kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2S8nXxpgt-soassi=toEoj-hJVTvwd73c

You know that the streaming $200 PS device can apparently play PSP games? Yep, guess it runs Android in the background. Instead of wasting $200 on that, buy a Backbone One PS Edition and most phones these days (Pixel 7a and so on) can play PS2, GCN, PSP, etc without any probs. Pretty cool. I didn't mention the legendary DC because phones from years ago can already play it smoothly. 😀 By the way, Apple gamers, welcome to the party even though it took years and years due to Apple's stubborness. 😜
