Makima is always in full control. In a sense, she dominates Denji here, she's making ALL the moves. I feel like how she previously told him he's her dog also plays into this. Denji looks up at her the entire time, much like a dog, gets parts of him bitten, like a dog might assert dominance over another, in the end he falls over on his back, much like a submissive animal presenting their belly. And then Makina gets on him, further establishing that dominance of who is on top, who is in control. Denji is being deeply manipulated here, a sweet poison~

Makima’s own manipulation through the use of seduction is one of the most interesting parts to see in action. Aside from how…fluid…the animation makes it, Makima’s power imbalance as Denji’s superior and the one who gave him the things he wanted is what allows Denji to fall for this despite how clear it is that he is in way over his head. Denji also has an issue with never being satisfied so Makima plays into that by giving him things he “might” want or that he thinks he wants all while being careful with how she words everything. She isn’t just saying words without meaning, she’s using body language and the mood of the moment to set a pace and get Denji wrapped around her fingers. It’s straight up what groomers have been known to do and because she is the adult in this situation (Denji is about 16-17) she has the power needed to be authoritative with Denji without even letting him know she’s actually telling him what to do for the most part. From his end, he’s doing it cause he thinks what he wants and she’s the one who told him and enlightened him on such things. She can be the one to give him what he thinks he wants and she capitalizes on that. And the thing is…we still don’t know why which makes her actions and decisions throughout even more concerning and confusing.

I agree, there's such a thing as seduction and, in fact, manipulation that doesn't need to be malicious. Someone who wants something FROM someone can, in fact, also just want that someone. Seduction may be both getting them SOMETHING they want but also be something they enjoy and want from that person. It may not be the best long-term solution, but you can also manipulate someone, try to steer them, for their own good rather than your own. It's a false dichotomy people setup far too frequently - "Does X really love Y, or are they just manipulating them to get something?" It CAN be a little from column A and a little from column B. However... Makima is shockingly predatory and malicious towards Denji. Compared to another not-completely-healthy fictional relationship - Jinx' and Silco's relation is downright sweet and snuggly compared to this. Sure, Makima is TEACHING Denji something - but she's also not treating him much different from what the gangsters in the first episode. Threatened with execution should he turn against her, then strung along and emotionally used. That said, I *ADORE* Makima as a character. The soul-dead gaze, the inscrutable smile... she's utterly sublime. That, however, doesn't make her any less a monster. I'm convinced she must be some kind of human/devil hybrid creature, like Denji, herself, unless the writer is going for a "humans are the real monsters" angle, which would be cool too. Regardless, I look forward to seeing how this all turns out.

This is usually i acknowledged, the pairing of seduction with lying and violation of the individual’s consent. 2) a good lesson when i was in my relationship is understanding that the focus on journey over destination should be treated as a journey altogether. Time doesn’t stop at the destination. Even at the end, the experience can be enhanced.

I didn't really understand the video (I have trouble with English), but if I should say what makima was doing compared to what I saw, it's like a mix between several things: first the abuse (due to the influence makima has towards denji and his naivety), the manipulation of his feelings (mainly due to his naivety and denji's childish desires and the influence makima has towards denji), and seduction. Makima seems to manipulate him (and this since the beginning of the anime) denji because of his naivety but mainly because she became the "object" of desire, the "representation" of his fantasies so much dreamed, and the one who gave him the opportunity to realize them. Many of denji's "dreams" are, for me, superficial or just simple, except for living a normal life. But denji doesn't know what a "normal" life is, so he is looking for the smallest thing that makes him fantasize (he doesn't do it on purpose, he confuses). He confuses the desire of the moment, of his fantasy of the moment with his dreams, that's why he was disappointed after touching the breasts of power, simply because he made his dreams "simple" because it was new for him Makima knows that and when she saw that denji started to doubt and to realize that his dream of touching a woman's breast was ephemeral (after the scene between denji and power), that's why she "hit on" him because she knows that he doesn't really understand her feelings. The ending 3 or 4 shows an interesting scene, the moment when denji looks at makima with admiration as if she was a goddess. I had seen a reaction video in English where a woman (Suzy lu) said more or less what I thought about this scene, from what I understood. This is not a "spoiler" but just an analysis I made when I saw this scene. Sorry if the translation is bad.

I think a really good point you bring up is the emotion the dominant party has to put into the "play". Most people talk about how Makima is coldly manipulating him (and yes that's true) but for it to 100% work and for when these scenarios happen in real life (for example bdsm) being able to read the more submissive partner to know how they're taking in what's being done to them and how to react accordingly to keep the atmosphere for all parties "in the moment" is super important and extremely emotionally charged.

Hello Georgia, I love your psychology analysis on anime series. Would you like to react and analyze for "Violet Evergarden" series? I think that series has pretty good amount psychological topic.

Funny enough this is the complete contrast to that 3 squeezes scene with power, it’s not just doing the act, it’s the intimacy of the act that matters. There was more sexual tension when she was running her fingers through his than in the whole scene in the bathroom with 3 squeezes that were OWED, not given. Just like Makima explains it, the better you know the person, the better it feels, really good writing and the animators are godlike in showing as such.

Haven’t see enough of Chainsaw man to opine but I’m very curious about who’s the biggest manipulator, Makima or Johan Liebert from Monster 🤔 he’s know as one of the best manipulators/ villains so I wonder if Makima’s a match since a lot of people have been talking about her. Also Yuiichi from Tomodachi game seems like a great candidate

I literally just stumbled across your videos by fluke and watched your Edgerunner videos. The fact that you explain things easily make the videos more engaging in my opinion and the cosplay aspect is a nice touch. I look forward to further exploring of Makima in the future.

i can't wait for your takes on ep 7 "Taste of Kiss". it will be great if you take a look at Himeno and Denji at the very end of ep 7. we have been lead to believe Himeno love Aki but why offer sex to Denji? i'm pretty sure she ain't that drunk

Hey Molly Miller 3720, you're not alone I'm also autistic, but not only that but also that was really helpful, I mean I need to show this to my Bi-Sexual girlfriend to find out that it'd help her out the comparison between the definition of sex and the definition of seduction.

OMG. The way how you explained it - it is exactly how i feel about action and gunplay in video games. That is why i love the preparation and managing your gear before every raid in Tarkov even though i am not a fan of the multiplayer part of that game. That is why i love hardcore mods for Stalker - like Stalker Anomaly. And why i rly wish the industry would create more of that kind of slow methodical experiences for me to enjoy - not because of the difficulty or the challenge itself, but because the difficulty creates tension. Those games require you to think and prepare beforehand, and instead of just throwing a bunch of combat scenarios at you one after another they have prolong times of silence when you are constantly on the lookout for potential threats, tightly gripping your gun/mouse in anticipation. It is all like... the seduction that is described here!.. Only with guns and enemy combatants, traps or monsters. I never thought about it that way, but it makes so much sense now.

hey there, first of great Video, like always. Its nice to get a second (sometimes counterintuitive ) opinion from a heath professional on ongoing series. I want to vent out about the positive connection, someone could deduce (which bugs me) between the topic of Seduction ( which in itself can be a great teasing experience, if it runs between 2 stable individuals and doesn't spiral into power play) and the scene as a whole. In my mind (and I've seen a few others here) the scene represents a uneven match between a skilled manipulation artist and a unstable kid, which tbh makes the series more interesting to watch, but there needs to be a clear distinction between the fictional characters and the real world. I would have appreciated a disclaimer or more clear cut distinction between the two.
