The government has "locked down" society multiple times lately and strongly incentivized having few human contacts and thus little socialization, yet there seemingly hasn't been a resurgence of the genius. "Oversocialization" might be a problem to the genius in the sense of popularity being placed above merit in western societies but mere social intercourse doesn't harm the genius, especially the "artistic genius" might in fact be harmed by a lack of irl social intercourse and possibly the scientific genius as well.

No wonder they are not agreeable... I'm in the extreme high end of normal IQ (128) and that was quite alienating. I had an adult vocabulary at 7 and could read at an adult level at 11, as assessed by the educational psychs the schools called in to assess me. Students often found me "stupid" essentially because I spent all my time studying biology and art and had very little shared interests with them, and we basically didnt share a language until class mates caught up linguistically in late high school. I cant imagine having an IQ of 145, it would be like living among apes. I think some sociopathic traits would have to come from that frustration.

As an autist with a high IQ, I find this video very helpful to understand my place in things. What I find most frustrating is how difficult it is to find a career in which I am allowed to do the things at which I excell. I thought I found that with intel analysis in the military but by excelling at it I found myself getting promoted so quickly that soon I was in a managerial role and not doing much analysis. I was also tasked more with busy work that had nothing to do with what I wanted to be doing. This was extremely depressing. Now I'm in a role that had no structure and no clear goal, which is a different kind of frustrating entirely. I see many roles I would excell at, and some I can do at my rank. But I have no way of getting there because the HR department treats everyone as a number and cannot match people to roles they may be best at. So I find little reason to stay as this problem will only become worse the higher I go.

This is me. I am you. I got out of intel 3 years ago and went into finance. I’m self employed and pick up contracts doing risk analysis, it was boring at first but after a year I was getting significantly better and more complex projects/products to analyse. It’s not the most stimulating work (certainly not as stimulating as my intel role) however I get paid very handsomely, never deal with bosses (in any tangible sense) and I have probably 2 dozen extra hours to work in my (much larger and better equipped) workshop every week. This is a significantly more stimulating and intellectually satisfying _lifestyle_ than I had previously where I get to follow my interests and ideas rather than someone else’s schedule. The transition was remarkably easy once I understood the financial qualifications system (you pay for accreditation basically none of the exams are mentally taxing) and I haven’t looked back since 👍🏻

Geniuses are going to be strongly task orientated so wasting time on interpersonal matters is hardly going to feature strongly in their order of priorities. If people cannot see how wonderful their work is it is because others lack the mental capacity to appreciate how brilliant they are. You only have to look at science which is littered with examples of geniuses who make spectacular discoveries only to have their work shunned mocked ridiculed or just ignored usually until they are dead when people suddenly wake up and discover/realise and appreciate the contribution that they have made. Geniuses are usually confident in their own abilities to tackle & solve the problem in hand without needed the praise or recognition of others. They do NOT make good salespeople.

I really like your videos. I just wanted to contribute to your definition of Autism. You give a very effective summary of the traits in a nutshell but I have been watching a lot of videos about autism over the last few months and one of the things I've learned is that people with it do actually have empathy but it's just partly disconnected since they have trouble reading body language and they have trouble with theory of mind, putting yourself in somebody else's shoes and thinking about how something might make them feel,. They actually have all of the normal feelings it's just that their way of sensing them is reduced so they appear to not have certain qualities but they really do, they are just harder to affect through traditional ways. Where with a normal person an expression could say everything, somebody with autism might need the situation explained in words to them but after they understand through this different method of conveying, they feel the same empathy and other emotions just the same as other people. They are in there, the in and out passages are just a little bit blocked up. And then what happens is they get made fun of as kids for the funny things they say because they are novel and creative and don't care to go with the mainstream, and that teaches them to stay quiet so they can blend in easier and not contradict people so often and this teaches them a certain bitterness towards the general population since they don't think like themselves and that can be seen as not being empathetic. They also get so tied up in their ideas and vast imagination and constant churning gears in the mind that their emotional state can take a back seat and if they don't take the time to work on themselves and to work on building up those connections that come so easily for normal people then they can end up seeming quite robotic and expressionless when really they are not that way deep inside, it's just an issue of connecting what's inside to reality that's the hard part.

This is actually the Japanese character trope of note internationally, got me thinking of this old corny 80's video game called "The Island of Dr.Radiaki" who is a Japanese supervillain that made his fortune selling small appliances. Saints Row does it again with Professor Genki, some of the newer NA Godzilla remake stuff handles the "main Japanese doctor guy who actually knows what's going on with monsters" with almost this same treatment despite that not being a feature of the original material where the character would have been a "if only someone had listened to that environmentalist, Dr.LovegoodAlwaysright!" type character in their own culture. Psychopathic Japanese genius male is literally their main character trope according to the rest of the world.

@Xgdzd Fhxh Hmmmm........I know Dr Ed would back you up there, and I have no scientific argument to defend my theory, but from what I've witnessed in my life, my instinct is that there are many types of intelligence (and I'm not talking about the EQ they test for in HR departments). Rather than repeat myself this I've copied and pasted what I posted to Ed: "Great writers lack empathy? Ed, not sure what great novels you've ever read, but this remark would seem rather ridiculous (no?). I note you also don't deal with musicians (as usual with your wonderful lectures) and not sure how "lack of empathy" goes with genius in that field either (to put it mildly!). Problem is, there are different types of intelligence. Yes, cognitive intelligence measured by IQ is extremely important in physics and success in this modern world, but by not including other types of intelligence in your discourse you a) limit your ideas about genius and b) further alienate people who believe there is no genetic component to intelligence. Perhaps by embracing the fact that there are many types of intelligence it would allow those people to be more open to these ideas. For eg. the other day I read that subsaharan Africans have a "rhythmic IQ" of 119 (I think with Europeans at 100). How wonderful if this type of intelligence could also be acknowledged. However, I don't hold out much hope that any productive discourse can really be had by the ideologically driven deniers of genetically influenced intelligence. Great work as usual! "

I hope people understand that "natural philosophy" was a side interest for Newton. He frequently wrote to his friends saying the subject took too much of his time. His true interest was theology. His ideas were radical and he had to hide them throughout his life. Also, he wrote more pages about alchemy than about mathematics and physics. Dismissing his main subject of interest and presenting him as a quirky scientific genius would be a serious mistake. He was a theologian and has to be understood as such. Within theology his main focus was the Book of Revelation, about which he wrote extensively.

Is group selection really the single answer for how criminals remain in the bloodgroup? I get the sense that most aristocrats, or most ruling class people in general, behave very much in the same way as the maffia or the bratva does. Highly organized groups of criminals, that are mostly kept going by inheriting strategies and playbooks, and being run by the smartest guy in the block, who inevitably creates the strategies and playbooks that the next gen adapts to and scales up. Wouldn't it be possible that the ruling class of any civilization or larger gathering of people would be selected for criminal mindsets as they would be the people better at fighting in their own favour (disagreeable) and willing to exploit the labour of others for their own gain (low conscientiousness)?

I've been listening for quite some time now. Kind of bereft. I'm not a genius. I have contributed nothing of worth to society. Neither am I a psychopath, though its fair to say up until 30 I was something of a loose cannon. I seem to occupy some purgatory based hinterland, where I receive all of the negatives and none of the positives. The intelligence I have allowed me to create a trade in which I can live comfortably, as an artist. But really my skill is in pattern recognition. In my twenties it really confused me. It seemed like magick. I could, to some degree, predict non eventful happenings. I could feel which way certain things were going to go, albeit frivolous things. Every now and then, having not thought about something for some undisclosed period an idea will emerge like a thunder flash. As it arrives I know its right, without being able to know how I know its right. Then I backtrack using academic sources and 8/9 times out of 10 I'm right. I suspect its just selective retention. As a child I would read the same cornflake packet every day of the year. Anyway. The reason I watch with mixed feelings, those being relief and berievment is because I know wherever I fall in this equation it's not good. That is not to say its bad for those around me (?), rather not good for me. But it's good sometimes to understand a problem even if you have no solution. I would add that in terms of my current job I can spot trends well before they happen. Smart right? But I am utterly incapable of capitalising on those trends unless I endorse them wholeheartedly. So, essentially I spot something about to happen, dismiss it as unworthy of attention and then sit back and watch my contemporaries earn good money doing what I refuse to do on aesthetic grounds. So, I guess, really, this makes some kind of genius tier idiot. And, in that encyclopaedic fashion I have answered, to some small degree, my own querie. Idk. Thanks anyway,

I’m creative. I draw, paint etc. I played cello in school. I don’t know what my intelligence level is... I’d say that I’m average to slightly above. I had a tumultuous childhood. My stepfather was very abusive towards us. Mentally and physically. My mother got the worst of it. He’d beat my mother. She was with him for 7 years. My mother finally left him for good when I was 10. The final straw was when he ran over her foot with the car.

Thanks for the explanation of a genius mind. Genius people normally don't follow the crowd. Autistic genius doesn't care of what people think about them. They dont follow the crowd criticism is something common in a genius life. How much more criticism more they know they are right. About a genius sexual life I think genius people know the value of their DNA and they try to select a specific genius partner willing to produce more genius DNA. They have the idea of perpetuation of their brilliance with the right brilliant genius partner. Normally they get bored with a non genius partner. As they are so fascinated by their brains while the right partner doesn't appear they can have sex with their brains. (joking but to a genius can be true)

The archetype of genius is manifested through me. Not a pleasant life to be honest, full of solitude and lack of understanding. Interactions with others are coloured by so much indifference, contempt and even hostility. Geniuses focus on the naked truth; truth is simple and most of people love the complications and drama of their lives. Geniuses are a threat to illusions. Then, most belittle the simplicity of the genius as naivete. But one cannot do much different. Intelligence is just the consequence of honesty, humility and integrity; to acknowledge reality and not to try to bend it to one's whims. Anyway, with the gifts God has given me, I have tools to deal with the issues of this life. If there's a question, there's an answer.

To be honest (just as you purport to like), it sounds like something a midwit would write. A genius sees the wisdom (evolutionary, if you will) of fake behavior in a social setting and quickly learns to adopt it by his mid 20s at least. A noble genius with criminal traits from the British guy's video is a fantastic character, in real life he will be more likely to just steal other people's work and sell it for his own benefit. Because that's nakedly and truthfully more effective thing to do! Rather than spending your own life at something dorky (and possibly failing at it, wasting your life), you can spin as many other people's lives as you can get into contact with, and all you have to do is lie and defend yourself by any means at your disposal. And that's the story of Edison. A religion, of course, dumbs you down to these things, but if you're a genius, you ought to learn to get past that in some form. What you're describing is just some kind of a religious ode to an observably sad situation of personal failure that seeks to glorify it, even.

the reason why geniuses are dying out is because there is so much emphasis on sex in society today - and being normal. peer group pressure and open conversation have practically made it a performance 'art' (porn readily available). years ago people who weren't very 'good in bed' still had successful marriages because their partners didn't know any different and the emphasis was on fidelity and the words of the christian marriage service about the purpose of marriage - to procreate.
