Personally, I’ve never been a fan of puzzles that require a “trick” to solve. You should be able to observe and logically work out how a puzzle works without a specific gimmick that you need to know about to solve it. I know that sounds like all puzzles, but I mean specifically the ones that have a hidden mechanism you could never see and no way of guessing that the puzzle only works at a certain angle. I’ve seen clever puzzles use these gimmicks in a more reasonable way, like one where there is a little image on the bottom and as you turn it over to inspect that image it clicks slightly giving a hint that it works upside down. That’s just my opinion tho. I just like puzzles more that I can solve with logic and not random guessing and fiddling until something happens.

Exactly, I had a "puzzle" like this before. I figured out the geometric pattern but only one side was milled 2 mils smaller to allow it to work. But the fact iwasn't doing it with THAT side it didn't work.

it makes it not seem like a puzzle anymore. Right when your logical reasoning isn’t how to go about your puzzle, it’s extremely uninteresting

Logically youd see that if you cant solve trick puzzles, such as riddles, you're left with a very shallow and one dimensional way of seeing the world. Like how kids get too focused on STEM classes and ignore creativity classes like art and poetry.

Every summer for many years I have taught a week-long puzzle class for gifted and talented elementary- school-aged students. The spiral is one of the many many puzzles that I challenge the students with.Over the years there has only been one student who has been successfully able to take apart and reassemble the spiral currently it is disassembled. It didn't come with a solution but thanks to your video now I know the trick and will be able to give the kids hints to help them Master This brilliant little puzzle. Thanks a lot!
@damascusraven

A question for you; why are you giving a challenge to elementary schoolers when you don't know how to do it? Not trying to be rude here but I don't understand your thought process.
@shadowbear66
@shadowbear66 2 жыл бұрын
@@damascusraven the students that I work with are 4th-6th graders who are very intelligent and love to be challenged. I present them with a couple of hundred of different and varied puzzles most of which I can solve and the kids can solve with patience and persistence. We do jigsaw puzzles, three-dimensional puzzles, slide puzzles, riddles and brain teasers, mazes, balancing puzzles, a Rubik's twist puzzle, a magnetic puzzle called ball of Whacks, word puzzles, math puzzles, a wide variety of visual puzzles , optical illusions, even a few magic tricks and many more. I present them as types of puzzles and show the students each one while explaining the challenge involved. The spiral is one of a group of puzzles where the challenge is to take them apart and put them back together again, but I don't give away the Solutions. I tell them that the spiral puzzle has only been solved once by a student and I myself have never mastered it. They relish the idea of mastering such a difficult puzzle, especially one the teacher can't figure out. As I said this puzzle did not include the solution and the puzzle guy in his video said it's a puzzle that drives everyone crazy. I've never been able to solve a slide puzzle, they drive me nuts, but I've never thought that that should be a reason not to the kids a chance as many of them are much better at it than I am. I really don't think that my"thought process" is particularly difficult to grasp. Here's a puzzle have fun seeing what you can do with it!

I love these kinds of puzzles. I have quite a few different types in my house. I usually figure them out pretty quickly, but the problem is once I figure them out, I don't forget and then the only amusement I get afterwards is watching other people not be able to figure it out. Some of them take me less than a minute to figure out, the harder ones usually take about half an hour. I have pretty good Spatial Awareness though especially when it comes to visualizing things in my mind like solving these puzzles. Sometimes I can figure out the really easy ones without even touching them because I can see how at specific angles, the pieces should be able to come apart because of how the gaps are set, how something is longer on one side or milled slightly different.
