We don't deserve this man. 1. He did voiceovers for the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody". 2. Performs songs by "Queen" so he can make us happy especially for those who miss hearing Freddie's voice live. He isn't pretending to be Freddie and he makes his own music. He just performs these to see us smiling and singing along. 3. He doesn't like the spotlight and he is down to earth. You'll never hear him telling people he is better than Adam Lambert because he respect everyone's talent and craft. Thank you Marc Martel.

Let's be clear, we all miss Freddie and no one will ever replace him. I've heard from some people that they go to the Queen concert to NOT hear someone sing like Freddie. To me, that's weird.. why? I would honestly PREFER to attend a Queen concert where someone sounded like Freddie. I want to pretend for an hour or two that Freddie is there singing for all of us. He lives on through his music and our love for the music. Isn't that the point? I'm so confused as to why anyone would go to a concert to NOT hear the song sung the same (or similar) to the original. You don't listen to songs on the radio and wish it was someone else singing it, or that it was a different voice singing it. When you hear a performer live, you want them to sound as close to the original as possible. This guy is as close as we get without literally having Freddie here, he's an amazing performer. He has a very solid sound, and he's just super talented.
@ToddandRaquiForrest6 жыл бұрын
Marc sings album Freddie live, just for that very reason... it is the sound one expects to hear. Freddie had every right to creatively avoid high notes, or do whatever he wanted. It is the ones who come after that should only pay tribute by trying to achieve the same level of greatness. Do people go to hear Mozart or Beethoven's music played differently than they composed it? NO WAY.
@papabearM36 жыл бұрын
Todd & Raquel Liz Forrest And yet every interpretation of Mozart sounds slightly different, depends on who is playing, the instrument they use, the tempo they choose, etc. Regardless of how much Marc sounds like Freddie, he is still Marc. It's Marc's voice and his energy. He interprets Freddie's music as honestly as he can, doesn't he?
@brookeaprilrain106 жыл бұрын
Well, you're comparing singing vocals to piano notes. Not even the same thing. With a piano, it's a physical instrument that while it may have a slightly different tone from other pianos. The point is, the notes are almost identical. Vocally singing like another human being, especially someone like Freddie is VERY hard to do. If you're born with the natural ability to sound like one of the most iconic singers of all time. I'm sorry, that's one out of maybe a million or billion people who can do that. The odds are Vastly different between playing the piano like mozart vs. someone actually singing almost exactly like someone else. Ypu wouldn't be able to convince me otherwise.
@TheSaxAppeal6 жыл бұрын
@@brookeaprilrain10 it's a huge difference between the two. Accurate vocal mimicry is next to impossible because of the physical structures that create your voice, like your larynx and bone shape and density. When a singer sounds strikingly similar to another singer in the way of Martel and Mercury, it's a matter of coincedence

kostelo21. Why would Freddie Mercury be 'so proud' that someone has come along trying to sound just like him AND sing his songs AND get paid for it? I know it wasn't you who has suggested that Marc Martel replace Adam Lambert, but I can see the way this is going. All these people clamouring for Marc Martel to replace Adam Lambert are completely missing the point. If I felt that, if I died, someone could come along and replace me with no problem, I would be rather upset! I suggest that he would be much more proud of Adam Lambert for NOT trying to copy him and for making Freddie's songs heard again in a beautiful but slightly different way. Don't get me wrong, I think that Marc Martel is very talented. As a tribute act, he is outstanding. However, the suggestion that he should join Queen and try to emulate him exactly means that fans will pick up on it every time he DOESN'T sound like Freddie and will be slightly disappointed that he wasn't exactly the same. If they listen to Adam Lambert, their expectation isn't to hear it as though Freddie is singing the song, so they just hear a fabulous (but different) voice singing the song and can appreciate it.

@caracoveney6 жыл бұрын
Shilpi326 I wasn't going to lower myself to reply to your offensive comment, and your observation means absolutely nothing, but I get angry when people chuck profanities at me for no reason. I have listened to Marc in his 'own' voice (look at 'Take it with Me', 'Is he Worthy?') and he has a wonderful voice, with a lot of 'Freddie's' voice naturally. He is a brilliant singer, and I have already downloaded his 'own' stuff. But he does not sound EXACTLY like Freddie in his 'normal' voice and I doubt that he tries to. But there is the same tone. He sounds like Freddie in his tribute act. Did I say that he didn't sound like Freddie? No. I said that he shouldn't be in Queen. He also has a video showing exactly HOW he imitates Freddie, which is an extension of his own voice. Why would he do that if he sounded exactly like Freddie to start with? Just because I like Adam Lambert doesn't mean that I don't like Marc. You are swearing at the converted. Grow up and watch your language.

You obviously don't get my point, do you? I saw Queen perform in the late 70's and 80's. That's how I remember Queen performing. Adam Lambert sounds nothing like Freddie Mercury whether you want to believe that or not. I've seen Marc Martel in concert singing Queen's music and if I close my eyes, he sounds near identical to Freddie. If I go to a Queen concert now, I want to hear the vocals sound as close to Freddie's as possible and Adam Lambert's do not. He's gay and can certainly prance around the stage like Freddie, but the tone and sound of his voice don't come close to Martel's. If I go to see Queen, I want to hear Freddie's voice singing Bohemian Rhapsody or Somebody to Love, not Adam's.

Obviously there was only one Freddie Mercury and he is sorely missed by everyone. I remember watching a bunch of Rock's heavyweights during the memorial show a few months after Freddie's passing and I thought that even though they were stars in their own right, they sounded like amateurs. So for all the folks with enough guts to try a Queen song in front of an audience, more power to 'em. There will never be another voice like Freddie's but it's the fact that a quarter of a century after his death, we're still listening to singers who are pushing themselves to their own limits to pay homage and respect to a true master musician. RIP Freddie, we're all still listening to the music and it sounds great!

AnActualLefty - I remember his performance at Freddie's memorial concert and agree that his voice was one of the very few that didn't crack at some point, his phrasing was pretty natural too. Most singers don't have the range for that song unless they have someone drop a 10lb weight on their toes for the added inspiration!

We deserve this man.

Maybe, just maybe, Brian and Roger probably felt that Martel looks and sounds too much like Freddie and that if they had chosen him instead of Lambert, all the attention will be on Martel rather than the original band (Brian & Roger). Because we all sure the hell know this guy sounds better than Lambert and actually has an uncanny resemblance to Freddie's voice.
