THE QUEEN'S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE 1975
Buckingham Palace, London, United Kingdom
25 December 1975
In her "special opportunity" of talking to her peoples every Christmas-- filmed from the gardens of Buckingham Palace (being the first time it had been recorded out of doors), The Queen made mentions of the year of record inflation and unemployment in the UK and worldwide. The Queen spoke of the good cheer brought to everyone in the season of Christmas, and that unity in everything that we do "does matter and does make all the difference."

She was no zealot, but when she spoke about Christ, her expression changed to one of intensity. You could see that she genuinely believed in what she was saying. The words were wise and delivered with gentleness. I will never forget her...just the thought of her gives me courage...

You could tell that she was a true follower of Christ's actual teachings. She lived between palaces, and treated people as inferior, and conducted herself like a demigod on Earth. - Surely it is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of a needle, than a rich (wo)man to...

Very nostalgic. I was ten in 1975 and I'm sure must have watched it as my family always watched the Queens speech. What strikes me upon watching it now is how much the Queen and Princess Anne looked alike.

Fascinating to listen to the Queen's voice drop in tone over the years. Listen to her first televised xmas speech to hear her as a young lady; this one to hear her middle-aged, and the most recent one to hear her as elderly.

I miss her. 😢 Annually her presence and Christmas message were so beautiful during Holy Days. Inspiring speech as usual, and how it could be more adapted to our current moment? That’s why to celebrate together in family, friends or group, even making others feel warmer, welcome and happy is quite important. Or help in any necessity. It’s the real Christ’s message. How December is a great Month. Every world should take care and celebrate to bring everything together and work toward forgiveness and in any kind of improvements, personal , familiar or in society. We need exactly this kind of thing : more words to put people looking forward positively. And increase our chances of hope. Hope of better future …

Noooooooo. Only the Queen can deliver her messages in the unique way that she does. No actor can replace HM the Queen in the depth of quality and uniqueness she exudes with precision and skill. Stanley Baxter however can mimic the Queen in the context of fun and frivolity but never in a serious role.

Quite an understatement concerning Jesus Christ. Not only what she said is true but His great sacrifice of Himself in dying on the Cross for our sins is enormous. Indeed Christmas is the celebration of His birth. Have you repented of your sins and accepted His salvation ? I surely hope that everyone who reads my comment has or will do that. I find it interesting watching your Queens Christmas speeches. Merry Christmas from the U.S. 2020.

Since Elizabeth II died, there has been much publicity, not so much thought about why she matters, and why monarchy is helpful in general. Monarchy shouldn't be used as real-life soap opera, nor as mere material to fill space in the media. The achievement of the British monarchy should become clear in comparison with the histories of other countries. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, and which opposes illegal dictatorship. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy to unify all the people is an important reason. In the UK, 'peace' in formal speech is "The King's Peace". Of course King Charles III's first marriage was a tragic mistake; Prince Philip could be tactless, and he & Elizabeth II made mistakes as parents. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the unity the monarchy gives in the UK & the world. The sea around it didn't protect the U.S.A. against civil war in the 1860s, and the UK could have suffered civil war over slavery in the 19th century; likewise over world war, loss of empire, economic failure, or race in the 20th. There will always be violence and political problems in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy and the stability it brings Britain, the commonwealth (e.g. Canada & Australia). By stabilizing Britain & the commonwealth, it promotes peace in the world. Since the 1700s, billions of people have lived under the British crown without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives. God save King Charles III, and his successors.
