I've been given a Quena as a present but I never knew how it was called and had a hard time finding it or trying to play it. I FINALLY found out and I'm surprised to see so many good tutorials about it!

I love the Quena and just started learning it 7 months ago. I started with a beginner Rosewood and now I have a bamboo model. You and your flute sound great!! I'd like to learn how to add reverb like you here, but I'm not there yet with making videos:)

True haha he’s amazing. But I’ve seen guys play the Quena well into three octaves. So I know what he means. XD

Those that have mastered the quena really are fascinating to watch and listen to. It is an amazing instrument in the hands of a truly dedicated player. I just have lots of fun with it. Erik

A good example of a master quena player would be sergio checho cuadros from Peru. He has quite a few videos on youtube!

Say more about placing the flute on the lip. Any more words to describe how to place the lips, how to breath etc would help. I can rarely make it sound, the fingering will help after I can consistently find a sound. thanks

If anyone could please help - when I play my quena, only the first three holes actually work. Having my fingers covering the last 3 holes doesn't change the sound whatsoever from leaving them uncovered. Any advice?
@ErikTheFlutemakerCom
@ErikTheFlutemakerCom 5 жыл бұрын
Make sure the back hole is covered. Make sure you are lifting the flute upwards, to keep a good connection. Do you see a tiny pin hole? or crack? Some glue will help.

@@ErikTheFlutemakerCom no holes or cracks to speak of. The quena looks in perfect condition. Nice and straight etc. Is this likely a technique issue and I should persist or a fault in the quena? Thanks

@@uninsulatedshrimp5518 is it one of mine? if so, it works. I play them all through the making and pick the best one when I ship. Are you puckering? you shoul d see a line in the soft grin not a hole.

prove DO in 3rd upscale or octava and if it does not work its cause the kind of flute that you have, its a souvenir

It sounds good however what's up with the background tuba interference?? Sounds a bit like an elephant fart in the middle of a beautiful song. Not nice.
