In 2000 I worked for a city in Ohio. We just got new computers and network . I called off work to go saugeye fishing, they were on fire.. Really on fire and big. A few days later my boss called me into his office to go over assignments for the upcoming week. As we were done he said check out this new program. As I'm watching, he has Google earth come up. He zooms in on my favorite lake, then the dam, then the spillway! Bigger than shit, there is my truck... Instead of busting my chops over it, he said next time just bring me in a few fish for him.

Love the wiper videos. Have watched every one on the channel. Still have yet to catch a wiper, but am looking forward to spring time. Got a lot of dams near me that have them
@BackroadsAngling3 күн бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate you watching! Prespawn in the spring is a great time to target them! If you can find a school of them along an eddy or current break you'll have the time of your life! Good luck!

@ do you find best success with the flukes? I caught 100s of white bass this year on a spoon, and think I did hook into a wiper because it took the craziest run I’ve ever seen as soon as I set the hook and popped me off. Started using white and chartreuse fluke from watching your vids.
@BackroadsAngling3 күн бұрын
@@johnduzicky1948 I personally have the best success with a white and chartreuse fluke. 3-4 inches. It does vary from location to location. If I was fishing your spot I would start off with a fluke but also try a lot of other swimbaits, jerk baits, etc until I found the magic presentation for your spot. I like pulsr swimbaits 3.25 inch. Fire ice, orange/chartreuse and purple are my favorite colors. I also like rage swimmers, whale swimbaits from 6th sense, anything baitfish-like. It sounds like you are slamming them with a spoon so obviously you are on the right track. You might just need to use larger sizes to target the larger fish.
@johnduzicky19483 күн бұрын
@ appreciate that. Big fan of 6th sense and the Rapala crush city pin tails do great where I am. I only started to target the wipers towards end of summer this year, so I am hopeful that I will get them in the spring. One thing forsure is that I put the time on the water so I know it will happen eventually! Keep killing it can’t wait for the final part!
@BackroadsAngling3 күн бұрын
@@johnduzicky1948 Well said. If you spend that much time on the water it's a matter of when not if you're going to get on them!

You been on a tear man, it's been a while since I've called into work to go fishing lol
@BackroadsAngling3 күн бұрын
This spot has been good to me this year! Most of my fishing time takes place right before work which is dangerous because I always run the risk of getting on a good bite and having to walk away in the middle of it - which I'm not capable of doing. Thanks for watching!

Bright chartreuse is my favorite color, i see you use alot of it too. Check out spike it. They make lure dye. You can get dip or spray, i like the spray. The chartreuse is garlic scent, i don't think the garlic helps or hurts imo. I found a seller on ebay that sells 3.8" keitech style swimbait's, can't get them in chartreuse but I get the pearl white and holographic shad and use the spike it dye. I usually put a bunch in a zip lock bag and hose them down. Not trying to tell you what to do, just sharing my experiences.
@BackroadsAngling3 күн бұрын
Yes, I almost always use white/chartreuse lures at this spot. I'll have to check out the lure dye. A lot of companies make the white lures but very few make the white/chartreuse combo so it would be nice to be able to spray them. Thanks!

What a great video. Ive noticed something, seems like when you get new gear like a new pole or rod, you always get a day or couple days where you just smash wipers. I had the uno reverse card hit me...got a new 200 dollar reel caught me some 7-8 pounders consistently then got a 200 dollar rod... Zip. Stopped catching them 😅. Cant wait to see you break your PB (I have a good guess)
@BackroadsAngling3 күн бұрын
Thanks, I am very superstitious about my rods and reels. I've had a few kast king reels that I have used for quite awhile and I feel like they are good luck. I did add an ugly stick rod to the mix this summer and it appears to be lucky. One good wiper school and your rods will have the positive mojo.

The big ones are pretty smart. They don't show themselves very often. Every now and then I get lucky and stumble onto a school of them. It was fun fishing with you and Chris. Maybe I'll see you guys around in 2025. No bag limit from the DNR. It might be awhile until they get to it.

I'm lucky that my boss is busy and doesn't really pay attention that much to when I'm coming or going. I was able to sneak in a few hours late and didn't even have to use the "I woke up feeling bad" excuse. It was my lucky day all around I guess. I appreciate you watching!
