We are still in lockdown in England, but I have crept out to Goring-by-Sea, as the railway calls it, which is about 3 miles from my house, to have a look at another section of English coastline. While there are older properties in Goring, down by the coast it is mainly houses from the 1930s and later that we find. But the green swards are gorgeous and the beach is extensive. And of course, there is the famous Sea Lane Cafe!

You are making me home sick! My old beach, path, cafe, trees and history. Playing, walking my dog, ice creams, sandy picnics, smelly seaweed, ball games and fun.

The trees are Tamarisk bushes/shrubs. They are one a very few trees that can withstand salt air and wind.Did you also notice that from Sea Lane Cafe there are no wooden groynes. They were replaced in 2004 by massive granite boulders imported from Scandinavia and stood 10-15 feet proud. Now completely covered with shingle which just gores to show how much the beach topography has changed in such a few years. It's a lot steeper than it used to be and the boat ramp opposite my dwelling is lost except the part at the top. Does make for a nicer view though when the tide is out instead of the wooden groynes which are also obviously disappearing . Keep up the great vid's😀

I didn't know that, Gary. It shows how important a job the wooden groynes were doing!

Thank you for another wonderful video. This one seemed quite emotional for you, but then again perhaps it's just me. Everytime you reminisce about your father, his dementia, the chair etc, I feel a huge connection for obvious reasons. I sense your pride in him, and I hope you are proud of yourself too. Them moments by the seafront would have meant so much to him.

Lovely film. My wife and I frequently cycle from Portslade, Brighton, to Goring, with Bella, our dog, sitting in her dog basket. A friend of ours lived in a Goring nursing home for 2 years, until his death a few months ago, where he received lots of love and excellent care. Ray loved Worthing and was alway proud to be English. We miss him. It’s fantastic to see how well that area along the coast has been protected from development...long may that continue! 💚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿👍 ps. As you said Richard the cake, and views, from that seafront cafe are superb...well worth another visit when they reopen after this dreadful pandemic has cleared.

Hi Richard, I was just getting ready to shut down for the night (11:20 pm) when I saw a new video from you, how nice! Beautiful morning you had. What a lovely peaceful place, I can see why your dad would have loved it there! Smart man to build a potting shed out of the huts...I believe you said he was frugal, nothing wrong with that! 😊 Really enjoyed this, music choice was nice. Thank you for sharing...loving your morning walks! Stay safe...take really good care!

Thanks for a smashing video Richard, very close to my old home patch - we used to play at the end of the Goring Greensward where the trees go right down to the sea, known as the Plantation, badly damaged during the Great Storm. So many happy memories growing up there in the sixties/early seventies.

Beautiful green space, really impressive. My brother brought half of my dad’s ashes secretly through customs for me to bury in our back garden. He was the only member of my family who never made it over to me though, ironically, he is always with me now.

it was a full moon , this weekend ,a spring tide means that the sea will go out further on the shore than normal..thats why there is so much sand uncovered ,, when the tide comes in ,, the high water mark will be higher than normal..

Nice video. I tried to do a similar one walking through my town but paranoia got the best of me and I felt passers by were frowning me (for filming) even though there's nothing wrong with it, this is how it messes with your head lol

Hi Richard do you know where the cut through is from Melbourne Avenue, Goring by Sea, to Ilex Avenue and where cut through is from Ilex Avenue down to the beach? I did this walk with my cousins as a child, haven't done it since and want to do it again and have a trip down memory lane! I live in Lancing, West Sussex. Bye for now Karen
