Great to see this video! Let me know when you are ready to do the history video and ill be happy to help! One little note, Ron Allen was building the cans for Ops Inc and just continued making them under AE after ops folded. Ron is retiring and we have taken over production of them (including the ither models soon) so you should start to finally see these in stock in more places.

You would be surprised how little has changed until very recently from the original "Maxim Silencers" of the 1920's that the NFA devastated because $200 for a silencer that cost a few dollars was absurd and unachievable for most people... 1920's Maxim silencers perform on par with many current market suppressors... Another market where the NFA REALLY crippled civilian market advancement and development... Same goes for machine gun development... Many times having your rifle threaded would cost more than a Maxim Silencer, although still affordable before the unreasonable taxation of $200 in the same era of the great depression... Can't wait till Gun Jesus releases his Suppressor history book through headstamp publishing, which has a large focus on Maxim's work... Those books are worth every penny, the content and full page color photography are incredible... Full of history, but with photography similar to the Vickers Guide series of books. Highly recommended 👍

I got the ottter. The AEM5 is a deeper bass like sound. The otter is quiet but has a tin like tone to it. It is a little sharper sound. Both are on par quiet. The otter is shorter and has titanium baffles. If I remember right the ops inc, and AEM, lest I forget the next company to make them to spec used stainless. I feel like the titanium has higher pitched harmonics.

When I was building my first AR, i was trying to track down the necessary parts to be correct. Some parts were expensive at the time and the suppressor wasn't being made at the time I believe (2012 time frame). I settled on a AAC M4-2000 suppressor with the flash hider. Back then, they were sold separately. I recently learned that the M4-2000 isn't being manufactured anymore. It would be nice to see a comparison between some 5.56mm suppressors that are/were used by military.

Sound reduction is impressive, but judging by the amount of gas coming back through the ejection port, I’m guessing this can is buttoned up pretty tight on the inside. I’m a lefty, so I’m always cognizant of blowback through suppressors. I run adjustable gas blocks and flow through designs on my platforms. Have an OSS Helix, and a Rugged Razor (not mounted yet), and am looking at getting a TB Magnus with secondary retention so I can run full auto. All these cans have reduced back pressure an minimize ejection port blow back. That can is damn quiet though!

How does this suppressor work with gas piston rifles? Specifically the Robinson Arms XCR-L. The gas rod is a long stroke gas piston. The bolt carrier has machined contact points for a connection between the gas rod and bolt carrier. There is a gas adjustment valve showing a very small gas port. A total of four gas settings for non-suppressor use. A total of five settings are available. With #4 being the largest hole and #1 hole for the smallest non-suppressor setting. There is an "S" marking for suppressor use. Are there any issues when using gas piston systems with suppressors?

I have two of these. One for a really long time, and one right from right before Ron Allen sold the company. I've shopped for collars for new rifles every now and then and I have never - ever - seen them come as a complete kit. Part of that reason may be that there is more than one way to mount the collar to a barrel, and actually you don't even need a collar if you decide to mill a shoulder onto a heavier profile barrel. The AE30 (the .300 version) calls for the shoulder to be turned onto a barrel as the primary method for mounting.

This was my very first suppressor for my MK12. Well, i have the original Ops Inc. model 12. Since I understand that ME is effectively a copy of Ops M12, i can confirm its one of the quitest ones i have had. I use it normally without any additional ear protection and i have not had any hearing issues or additional fatigue during shooting, but thats me. The only disadvantage i think this can has over the more modern designs is size and weight. Given that Mk12 is already quite heavy in mod 0/1, it adds up. The old XM21 flame arrester worked the same way, it was bigger but it was made for a 7.62x51 round. The way it worked best was to fire a round into the ground and cover the end with a piece of tape, this kept oxygen from getting back into it and no oxygen, less flame. It worked well enough that from 50-75 yards at night you couldn't see where the shooter was. Sionic made them and good luck finding one, CIA issued the rifles with a couple different ART scopes that worked well with M118 rounds they were designed for and again good luck finding one of those although they are easier to find than the Sionic suppressor, I imagine the CIA repurposed those and just kept them, but you can find the schematics for the arrestor in a google search even and the scopes are well documented, but since this was late 60's to mid 70's sort of a combo, hard to find either, same with finding a XM21 that is original, many of the ones you see out there are just pieced together and lack all the parts that made them a damn good rifle. While they were effective out to almost a thousand yards, they were fantastic from 300 to 500 yards for real world shooting.

Thats badass. Funny story: back in like 2010 I had a full auto suppressed/silenced m4 (i believe) rifle. Didnt know much about guns and still dont.😂 But i got it from a friend for like 200. He wanted some oxycontin. He just finished his first tour in Afghanistan like 3 weeks prior so i wasnt judging.😂 He said he was gonna buy it back. But never did. Craziest part looking back was he gave it to me in a home depot parking lot, he parked a lil ways away and just strolled across the lot holding it , magazines and a plastic walmart bag of loose ammo. I wasnt too bright in my early 20s. Also this was in Maryland so not really a normal sight. It ended up sitting in the trunk of this old 3 series i had in the driveway for months until i sold it to another buddy for a good bit of profit. He was a saw gunner in the army. He sent me vids of it ripping cause i never shot it. Sorry for the essay but I just had a flashback after getting this recommendation.

Dawned on me while looking at the patent diagram that it’s utilising Nikola Tesla’s Valve design philosophy. A Tesla valve with a straight & unobstructed path. Genius

If you think that is quite get an AB 8 with resonator. Visit with them because hand guards can get in the way for resonator so just use backplate.

The former owner of Ops Inc., Phil Seaberger died and left the company to his daughter which really didn't have anything to do with the business. Ron Allen was making the suppressors at the time for Ops Inc basically took over the business and had to rebrand/rename the company Allen Engineering. Now Ron Allen is pretty much retired and has sold the company to someone else and will not be branded by other company. I personally know the daughter and know her sons as well. Also lucky enough to have a Original 12th, 15th, 16th M4S and couple of Allen Engineering cans too.

The Form 1 on my main squeeze has a big reflexed blast chamber and a very simple baffle geometry, and despite all expectations to the contrary it's quit as hell. I don't want to say it's hearing safe because it's 5.56, but I can definitely say it doesn't make the shooter's ears ring. Something about the tone is way lower and more comfortable too.

Only when attached to a rifle that isn't tuned for it. Mine takes a rapid full 30 mag dump from my MK12 clone to start making me feel any excess blowback. During a standard ROF for a DMR I feel nothing.

great vid, thanks! what a great design. when I am finally free to legally own a suppressor 🙄 I'll sure be looking out for a model that has a chamber that goes back over the barrel as far as possible like this one. it's a winning combination with the dual purpose brake/sacrificial baffle, genius! well, of course it has to perform well in sound reduction as well as durability. it's no wonder that this design does 😎

Not knocking the AEM5 at all but IMO the Banish series are superior in numerous specs. First is the weight the Banish 30 7” is 11 oz and the 9” is 14 oz. The also have the Banish 30 Gold which is a QD version has an 8” that comes in at 13oz. It’s made of Titanium, fully serviceable by the operator and lastly it reduces decibels the ear at a minimum of 131DB. The only drawback is the price. AEM5’s come in at $600 on average and the Banish 30 is $1000 the Gold series can be upwards of $1400-$1600. But with all the advantages I’ve listed I think it’s worth the extra scratch.
