We all love lever bows but they are hard to get quiet. here is what we do to get them ready for the deer woods.
RULES to LEVER BY:
1: Flemish string with silencers.
2: Felt or the loop side of Velcro on outboards.
3: Open hinge gap, longer brace height, and yolk cable off of cam.
4: aftermarket string stop, dead end string stop
5: HEAVY ARROWS, 8.5gr per pound or more.
The quietest Levers aren't quiet to the shooter but aren't detectable down range. Build a heavy arrow with more than 15% FOC and enjoy stability and efficiency at its finest.

As as former factory shooter for both Oneida and Monster bows, one trick I used to silence ESC outboard was a LimbSaver strip down in the channel of each outboard. It adds a tiny bit of weight, but fills up that "echo chamber" and adds additional damping. I was shooting competition between 275 and 288 fps, and managed to keep my ESC lever limbs fairly quiet with 330gr arrows.

I run 350-430 grain on the tip of my arrows. My current build it a 250 spine fire and ice with 115 grain ethics 2pc, and 200 grain centaur battle ax single bevel and 250 grain cutthroat single bevel heads. I will soon get some 190g Simmons swampsharks for some double bevel cut on contact goodness.

Not bad guys. Nice to see a new Oneida vid. Was hoping you'd do a chrono wheelie vs. lever efficiency comparison.

Great video thanks Guys, I have been shooting Oneida's for 30 years, currently shooting a Monster Bow lever made from a small company out of Michigan that no longer in business, but bow is a bit shorter then the Oneida's with no cams and a shoot through system.

I had a camless monster Pheonix that I bowfished with for a while. Get bows and lighter than the Oneida discovery. Appreciate the comment sir. Shoot straight.

Thanks for putting this up The background music is great! Not so loud that you have to strain to hear the speaker and not so weak that it is a distraction. That is some top shelf editing! As to shooting heavy arrows close... I shoot a 880 grain arrow (62#@27.5") and have no issues shooting distance. BUT... I am also a traditional archer (who shoots an Oneida) who sets up for 15 yard shots, so the irrelevance to distance is two fold. I can but I don't. Time stamp 11.00 (heavy) doesn't sound to me to be any quieter than the arrow prior. That said... Pretty tame. I personally don't care about bow noise (unless it's crazy) but those heavy arrows do make a lot of people feel better about the effect on bow noise. I like the heavy arrows strictly based on point of impact results. Over all? Great video guys :)

thank you sir. yes I don't own a decibel meter and camera audio could have been a little better. I struggle with it always because I live on the highway and don't have the top of the line mics and editing equipment. I do appreciate the nod for the 5% backround audio and ill continue to do it. I love that you took the time to comment and actually shoot a heavier arrow than we did in the video. It is truly amazing the characteristics a heavy shaft has on the bow. Im guessing you are shooting fingers and bare bow witch I have yet to do with a lever. I feel speed isn't important and audio levels need to be as low as possible above all else. since we shot this clip I have built 2 more sets of arrows over 650gr. and im totally in love.

I was shooting fingers and then I had a mental breakdown into target panic. It happens about every decade. The arrow I mentioned is being shot out of a QAD and a release on the string.

@1:18 What exactly is that limb dampener called? Searching for "tuner" is of course getting me nothing, and no luck with "crossbow limb dampener" or others. Trying to dampen my new RPM Nitro just for my own sanity. Limbsaver string stop kit, Doinker suppression mount, and that limb dampener should be enough. I'm trying to avoid having things on the string, though I have beaver puffs on right now. Thank you for putting together this video, maybe the only one in all of existence for quieting these bows.
@DustinApple
@DustinApple 4 жыл бұрын
Skippy uses a wrap around limb saver designed for traditional bows. that's what he is calling a "tuner". I just use stick on limb savers usually.

A heavy arrow does make the bow quieter for the shooter. The speed of sound is still over 4 times as fast. The deer is going to hear the arrow as it rotates through the air creating a pressure disturbance. That said, heavy arrows are great.

its a good idea to use a low profile vane and a broadhead with low drag. big pet peeve of mine. I don't want a arrow making noise in flight. as far as a deer hearing it... the broadhead or fletching drag is what creates noise. im no longer concerned with fast, noisy misses. its impossible for a arrow to win the race against a deer's reaction time. I want to hit a target hard and as quiet as possible. I don't care how long it takes to get there, as long as pin gap isn't over exaugurated.

@@DustinApple all arrows make nose I've put a camera by the target the quietest arrow you'll get is feather fletchings the plastic vanes always make a bunch of noise even with field tips... Try it and post it in curious if you find similar results or different depending on what you have to shoot compared to what little options I had to test with shoot straight brother

Is that a drop away arrow rest on your Oneida bow? If so what do you use and how did you get it set up?
@DustinApple
@DustinApple 5 жыл бұрын
yes either a QAD or a limb driver. you can put a ring terminal on a QAD cord and attach it to the cam. limb driver is easier.

All the mods are the same. The K cam has been produced since 92. Every bow uses the same modules.

I’ve never worried about sound you can be shooting the quietest bow in the world and the second you release that deer hears it so it’s not something that can be fixed or to fret about . But a lot of guys are into all of that me myself I just hunt
@DustinApple
@DustinApple 4 жыл бұрын
I totally disagree. bow noise, broadhead and even fletching noise can increase a deers awareness. however weather has a big effect on a deers attitude. Ive had deer stand perfectly still on a windy day that would jump with every noise on a still day. Of course there are many factors, the least I can do is make sure my equipment isn't one of them.

You apparently never bowhunted before to make such a s stupid statement. A wired deer can get out of the way of the fastest compound bow even at 30 and under. You may not always miss but you will hit deer in places you never expected if you do it long enough.

Those fmj's are JUNK. I'd advise anyone to stay away from them. We've seen in the past, the aluminum core will retain deformation if it ever gets bent. It's just common sense if anyone thinks about it. Have a blessed day
