My mother made me a Sunbonnet Sue quilt when I was a baby! I found it when cleaning out her house 2 years ago. I didn’t know what it was called until I just watched your video!! I’m so excited you did this! I am now using the quilt to go over my legs when I’m sitting! I love it and yours is going to look just as cute!

I use featherweight fusible interfacing exactly same method as you did except when you turn it out the fusible will be to the outside and you can press it down on your background fabric, sewing it down is a breeze , so quick and neat. Thought you might want to try that sometime. Love your channel, tutorials and the sharing of other quilters beautiful quilts.

Thank you! I might have to try that. Although I love this stuff so much not sure I can alter it. 😂. It’s so easy!

@merryhill47902 ай бұрын
@@lydiaaguilar2020 You are welcome, it is so quick and inexpensive, I use it on all my appliqué projects. Be sure before you sew it on that the fusible is on the right side of the fabric so when you turn it out you can fuse it to your background fabric. You never have it moving out of place as you are sewing it on the background.

My favorite quilt pattern. Made one for my granddaughter and my great granddaughter. Going to use this method for the next one for my new granddaughter. What fun. I used raw edge appliqué for both. I like your suggestion to sew the hand & sleeve together first before sewing to the interfacing. Since the top of the shoe & top of the dress go under other parts I would leave those areas open for easier turning.

I haven't read the previous comments. But SAVE YOUR FINGERS. Before you sew the interfacing to the fabric, cut a small slit. Extra small slit for the smaller pieces. It'll save your fingertips believe me! Lol.

We found 19 Sunbonnet Sue panels my mother did years ago, you know she doesn’t remember why she only did 19, might have been because my youngest sister was born around the time. We wanted to guilt it for her, our problem finding material that comes close to matching the original ones. The only way I know of to finish is make a few more and add them into the original ones.
@sewcharmingquiltshop2 ай бұрын
Awesome!! You could also use the center as the portion where the sunbonnet sues are not. You could put your mother’s information there kind of like a label if that makes sense.

@sewcharmingquiltshop2 ай бұрын
Regular stitch and just close to the edge. You could do a decorative stitch or blanket stitch or anything.

Have you ever tried using a washable school stick to hold the applique pieces down on the background fabric? The washable school glue will wash out later; and you can avoid using pins. I always get cut, or poked, by pins when I am doing applique (by hand or by machine). Using the washable school glue has kept me from getting blood stains on my fabric. I have always thought that putting an old fashioned, black or brown, side button up boot on Sunbonnet Sue would look a lot better. I have never seen one made that way. I just wonder if anyone has the pattern to make the little Sunbonnet girls with their bloomers showing below their skirts? That jeans pocket quilt is beautiful.
@sewcharmingquiltshop2 ай бұрын
Yes I use glue sticks sometimes but old habits die hard. We sell those at the shop daily. Both ways work good. As for the brown boots, what a great idea! I’ve never thought of that.
