A useful video and well presented, thank you. I am having my R5 delivered next week. I shoot wildlife video as a hobby and am hoping that when I see a distant animal/bird, I can record in 8K, then crop/zoom in post to give 4K and effectively get twice the resolution/magnification, but after seeing this video, I am thinking that might not be the case
@rynfilms3 жыл бұрын
You'll still have the ability to do what you're thinking about doing. I find myself filming mostly in 4K HQ because it is basically 8K in a much smaller wrapper. With 4K HQ you are still able to punch in after the fact and still get a crisp image. 👍

Regarding the External Recorder, you have to turn the Heat Management off to get 4K HQ externally. Otherwise, it will output in 4k non HQ

@@rynfilms Yeah I shot an entire promo for a hospital to the Atomos Ninja V in 4k 60fps with Overheat Control on and it only recorded at 30fps which totally shocked me - thankfully it was usable but a HUGE issue if you aren't aware. Basically if you use an external recorder with the R5 then NEVER use Overheat Control.
@SamEmilio23 жыл бұрын
Love this video. Thanks! I have a question about 2:45 - is there a specific reason why the externally recorded image has a bit more baked in contrast than the internal, when both are shooting in the same mode/gamut? I feel like I've noticed this a bit with my Panasonic S1 and VLog; but haven't been sure why

Nice video, so thanks! Also, it was really, really good of you to include that 4k movie crop part. As I wildlife shooter, that is where I live on my r5 and that video mode will NEVER overheat, even in the middle of summer. The monitors are great for.. well.. monitoring. I think the recording is better internally on the R5, but it's still great to have the larger screen. The Sigma Art lenses are fantastic! I'd also recommend getting the Canon ND adaptor for any EF mount lenses, bhpho.to/2MhJ6LO

@daveedsdreads12654 жыл бұрын
I’m confused because at 2:44 the right image is clear more contrasty. Then 2 sec later, when you zoom in: the left image is clearly more contrasty. Is this an editing mistake? It seems to be switched when you zoom in. Also 12fps to your ninja is crazy. How did you find out it was 12?
@rynfilms4 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's just the KZbin compression that causing the contrast difference. Hard to say. As for 12fps, that was more of a guess judging by the motion lag. Whatever it is recording at, it's not right.

Canon R5 defaults to 1/1 full power flashes consistently when TTL and HSS used at any shutter speed faster than 1/250 sec. In addition, Bracketing of any kind is not successful-be it flash bracketing or AEB, as the Z cameras are able to do with flash. Hey Brian, long time! I was using either the 16-35 or 24-70 lenses, both f/2.8 and EF versions. I've been using the ND adapter and recently broke down and bought the clear insert for darker shots. I love the Canon ND adapter, having the filter behind the lens is great!

@@rynfilms Awesome - thanks! Yeah, I have a number of EF lenses, so was thinking about the ND adapter - it just seems like such a good solution. Stinks they make you pay for a clear filter also, but what are you gonna do? Do the drop-in filters still keep it weather-sealed?

Canon may not always have the latest and greatest tech in their cameras, but they sure know how to make a user friendly camera that just works. For me, the R5 is the best of both worlds. I shoot an equal amount of photo and video. And a lot of times I'm on the go. It's so nice not to have to cary 2 different setups for each. It would be nice if the made a pro body for the photo only market. I'm sure it would do well.

Need your honest advice. My wife shoots an even amount of videos and Photos for our travels and I'm in between purchasing either the Sony A7Siii or the Canon EOS R5. I'm looking for the perfect HYBRID camera that can shoot really detailed photos as well as a crisp video camera that is especially good in low light. What would you suggest between the two? Thanks for your awesome reviews!

Thank you! I'm absolutely partial to Canon. I tried many Sony cameras over the course of a year and we just didn't get along. I haven't tried the A7S3 yet, so I can't say for sure. I have friends that absolutely love that camera. If she is setup with good Canon lenses, perhaps stick with Canon. Same if she currently shoots Sony. I don't think you'll go wrong with either one. @rynfilms4 жыл бұрын
I've been mostly filming in 4K HQ. Given how alike the 4K HQ and 8K recordings are, I don't see much need to film in 8K very often. The several minute clips were all pretty close together. At this point, I have zero concerns about overheating on the R5. I have intentionally overheated it once in 8K. It took 20 minutes and it was a 200+GB recording. I'd be more worried about having a computer that can handle that kind of recording!
